Distributed Transmit Power Control for Optimal End-to-End Throughput in Wireless Multihop Networks (무선 멀티홉 네트워크에서 종단간 최적 전송률을 위한 분산 송신전력제어)

  • In this paper, we propose a distributed transmit power control algorithm for optimal end-to-end throughput in wireless multihop networks. Considering a solidarity property of link rates consisting of a multihop link and the fact that the multihop end-to-end throughput is determined by the minimum link rate, the proposed scheme controls the transmit power to make all link rates be equal and so maximizes the end-to-end throughput of multihop link. In addition, in the proposed scheme the transmit node calculates its transmit power autonomously in a distributed manner just through the information sharing with its neighbor nodes and so decreases the information sharing overhead. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves significant improvements in terms of end-to-end throughput and power consumption compared with the conventional maximum equal power allocation scheme.

  • In this paper, we propose an optimal energy management system using the data inference scheme and the cloud hosting technique in order to improve the efficiency of the energy management. We have been interested in the issue that the energy-saving and efficient management techniques are very useful for reducing the production and supply of energy. The energy management system refers to the control and management system in order to enable the efficient use of energy and also to maintain a comfortable and functional working environment effectively with the help of a computer. The proposed system controls a variety of equipment for energy management, and also gets the data for the inference from the changes in energy consumption environment, which is implemented to enable efficient energy management by adapting and controlling the changes optimally in the working environment. In order to evaluate the performance of the implemented system, some experiments have been performed under consideration of the monthly electric power consumption on the server that the inference engine is operating for the target facilities. Finally, the results show that the proposed system has a good performance.

Development of rotational pulse-echo ultrasonic propagation imaging system capable of inspecting cylindrical specimens

  • A rotational pulse-echo ultrasonic propagation imager that can inspect cylindrical specimens for material nondestructive evaluations is proposed herein. In this system, a laser-generated ultrasonic bulk wave is used for inspection, which enables a clear visualization of subsurface defects with a precise reproduction of the damage shape and size. The ultrasonic waves are generated by a Q-switched laser that impinges on the outer surface of the specimen walls. The generated waves travel through the walls and their echo is detected by a Laser Doppler Vibrometer (LDV) at the same point. To obtain the optimal Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of the measured signal, the LDV requires the sensed surface to be at a right angle to the laser beam and at a predefined constant standoff distance from the laser head. For flat specimens, these constraints can be easily satisfied by performing a raster scan using a dual-axis linear stage. However, this arrangement cannot be used for cylindrical specimens owing to their curved nature. To inspect the cylindrical specimens, a circular scan technology is newly proposed for pulse-echo laser ultrasound. A rotational stage is coupled with a single-axis linear stage to inspect the desired area of the specimen. This system arrangement ensures that the standoff distance and beam incidence angle are maintained while the cylindrical specimen is being inspected. This enables the inspection of a curved specimen while maintaining the optimal SNR. The measurement result is displayed in parallel with the on-going inspection. The inspection data used in scanning are mapped from rotational coordinates to linear coordinates for visualization and post-processing of results. A graphical user interface software is implemented in C++ using a QT framework and controls all the individual blocks of the system and implements the necessary image processing, scan calculations, data acquisition, signal processing and result visualization.

Production of Clone Animals by Nuclear Transplantation I. Effects of Electrostimulation on Membrane Fusion of Embryos and Activation of Oocytes in Mouse (핵치환에 의한 Clone Animal의 생산에 관한 연구 I. 생쥐 수정란의 세포막 융합과 난모세포의 활성화에 미치는 전기자극의 효과)

  • These experiments were carried out to establish the optimal condition of electrostimulatin inducing cell fusion and oocyte activation for nuclear transplantation in mouse embryos. Eggs selected for cell fusion or activation by electrostimulation were equilibrated for 5~10 min. in 0.3M sucrose solution and electrostimulated for 60$\mu$sec using 1 pulse of 60, 70, 80, 90 or 100 volts DC with electrodes 0.2 mm apart. Then they were cultured in 20${mu}ell$ dropsof Tyrode's solution. The results of these experiments are as follows : 1. When one pulse of 60, 70, 80, 90 or 100 volts DC for 60$\mu$sec were applied to 2-cell embryos for fusion of blastomeres, fusion rates were 50.0, 81.7, 91.7, 100 and 100%, respectively ; and developmental rates of fused embryos to blastocyst were 76.7 to 81.5%. Higher fusion rates were observed in 90V and 100V. 2. The average cell number in fused embryos developed to blastocyst was about half of the cell number in diploid controls; and the cell number decreased with increasing of voltages. 3. When pulse numbers were increased, fusion rates improved, but developmental rates were not signficiantly different from the group for which the number of pulse was not increased. And the cell number of blastocyst decreased even more. 4. Oocytes aged for 6hrs after ovulation were electrostimulated for oocyte activation by the same method used for cell fusion. Rates of oocyte activated by electrostimulation were 45.3 to 60.4%, and fragmentation rates were 7.5~15.1%. The lysis rates were 17.0~34.0%. The results of these experiments indicate that the optimal condition for achieving cell fusion and activation is 1 pulse, duration 60$\mu$sec in 90 Volt. The results also show that this condition is suitable for nuclear transplantation using mouse eggs.

  • As an OLT in the central office controls up to 64 ONUs in the subscriber area via a passive optical splitter, the hU PON system can accomodate PTTx in a single platform with low cost. To operate the system, it is important to implement an efficient MAC protocol, however, the protocol is currently the further study area in the ITU-T 0.983.1. In this paper, we suggest the MAC protocol which is needed to send cells of ONU to upstream, and based on the ITU-T G.983.1. We survey conventional MAC protocols which are not based on G.983.1, and then formulate the minislot period and length for the grant request and determine the optimal value of each parameter. Also, we suggest a coding scheme for the grant field of the PLOAM cell and the procedure allocating optimal parameters to the ONU.

Selection and evaluation of reference genes for gene expression using quantitative real-time PCR in Mythimna separata walker (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

  • In order to precisely assess gene expression levels, the suitable internal reference genes must be served to quantify real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) data. For armyworm, Mythimna separata, which reference genes are suitable for assessing the level of transcriptional expression of target genes have yet to be explored. In this study, eight common reference genes, including ${\beta}$-actin (${\beta}$-ACT), 18 s ribosomal (18S), 28S ribosomal (28S), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (GAPDH), elongation fator-alpha ($EF1{\alpha}$), TATA box binding protein (TBP), ribosomal protein L7 (RPL7), and alpha-tubulin (${\alpha}$-TUB) that in different developmental stages, tissues and insecticide treatments of M. separata were evaluated. To further explore whether these genes were suitable to serve as endogenous controls, three software-based approaches (geNorm, BestKeeper, and NormFinder), the delta Ct method, and one web-based comprehensive tool (RefFinder) were employed to analyze and rank the tested genes. The optimal number of reference genes was determined using the geNorm program, and the suitability of particular reference genes was empirically validated according to normalized HSP70, and MsepCYP321A10 gene expression data. We found that the most suitable reference genes for the different experimental conditions. For developmental stages, 28S/RPL7 were the optimal reference genes, both $RPL7/EF1{\alpha}$ were suitable for experiments of different tissues, whereas for insecticide treatments, $28S/{\alpha}-TUB$ were suitable for normalizations of expression data. In addition, $28S/{\alpha}-TUB$ were the suitable reference genes because they have the most stable expression among different developmental stages, tissues and insecticide treatments. Our work is the first report on reference gene selection in M. separata, and might serve as a precedent for future gene expression studies.

An efficient strategy for blocking the 1st mitotic cleavage of fish zygote using combined thermal treatment, exemplified by mud loach (Misgurnus mizolepis)

  • Blocking the first mitotic cleavage of the zygote is a key tool for chromosome-set manipulations in fish. We developed an improved method for inducing tetraploidy by blocking the mitosis with a combination of heat shock at 40.5$^{\circ}C$ for 1, 2 or 3 min followed by cold shock at $1.5^{\circ}C$ for 30, 45 or 60 min. When applied during the first cleavage metaphase of mud loach (Misgurnus mizolepis) zygotes, the optimal combination was heat for 2 min followed by cold for 45 min. At 1 month, the frequency of 4N survivors and the yield from total eggs fertilized was 55.7% and 14.4%, respectively, compared to heat shock alone with 20.0% efficiency and 3.6% yield. The effectiveness of the procedure was confirmed by diploid mitotic gynogenesis using transgenic markers. The overall yield of homozygous diploids, 34.0%, was better than that for single heat shock, 17.3%. The tetraploids and homozygous diploids had higher early mortality than normal diploid controls. However at 1 month, the viability of the tetraploids was the same as normal diploids. For gynogenetic diploids, the survival was similar to normal diploids after 3 months. The high efficiency of this new protocol extends the opportunity to study polyploidy in basic and applied research.

Neuro-Fuzzy Controller Design for Level Controls

  • In this paper, a level controller is designed with the neuro-fuzzy model based on Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy system. The fuzzy system is employed as the controller, which can be tuned by the neural network mechanism based on a gradient descent technique. The tuning mechanism will provide an optimal process input by forcing the process error to zero. The proposed controller provides the online tunable mode to adjust the consequent membership function parameters. The controller is implemented with M-file and graphic user interface (GUI) of Matlab program. The program uses MPIBM3 interface card to connect with the industrial processes In the experimentation, the proposed method is tested to vary of the process parameters, set points and load disturbance. Processes of one tank and two tanks are used to evaluate the efficiency of our controller. The results of the both processes are compared with two PID systems that are 3G25A-PIDO1-E and E5AK of OMRON. From the comparison results, our controller performance can be archived in the case of more robustness than the two PID systems.

Control of a Satellite's Redundant Thrusters by a Control Allocation Method (여유 조종력 할당기법을 이용한 인공위성의 여유 추력기 제어)

  • Redundant thrusters are generally adopted to satellite designs for a highly reliable attitude control system. So efficient redundancy management is required to take advantage of these redundant thrusters. In this paper, control allocation method is proposed as a method for controlling redundant thrusters. Control allocation is a method to calculate optimal distribution on redundant controls for realizing desired forces/torques. It is shown that a control allocation problem for redundant thrusters is formulated as a linear programming problem which minimizes fuel consumptions with thrusters, constraints. We also show that the proposed method is more efficient than an existing method by numerical examples.

  • Mobility of an indoor wheeled robot is affected by adhesion force that is related to various floor conditions. When the adhesion force between driving wheels and the floor decreases suddenly, the robot has a slip state. In order to overcome this slip problem, optimal slip velocity must be decided for stable movement of wheeled robot. First of all, this paper shows that conventional PI control can not be applied to a wheeled robot of the light weigh. Secondly, reposed fuzzy logic applied by the Takagi-Sugeno model for the configuration of fuzzy sets. For the design of Takaki-Sugeno model and fuzzy rule, proposed algorithm uses FCM(Fuzzy c-mean clustering method) algorithm. In additionally, this algorithm controls recovered driving torque for the restrain the re-slip. The proposed fuzzy logic controller(FLC) is pretty useful with prevention of the slip phenomena through that compare fuzzy with PI control for the controller performance in the re-adhesion control strategy. These procedures are implemented using a Pioneer 2-DXE wheeled robot parameter.
