In this paper, a new hybrid opto-digital multiple information hiding and real-time extracting system was suggested and implemented using a volume holographic optical correlator. The multiple information hiding system in which the multiple information can be hided in an arbitrary cover image was digitally implemented by using the combination of pseudo random sequence and Hadamard matrix. In addition, a real-time optical extraction system in which the hided multiple information in a cover image can be extracted in real-time was implemented by using a volume holographic optical correlator. In the VanderLugt-type holographic optical correlator used in this experiment, the multiful matched spatial filters corresponding each of the hided informations were recorded in a photorefractive crystal by using the moving window-based angular multiplexing scheme.

The wavelength demultiplexer is an essential component in optical transmission systems using wavelength-division multiplexing(WDM), which can increase the number of channels and information capacity of optical fibers. For optical telecommunication, much attention has been given to demultiplexing two wavelengths in the 1.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of low dispersion band and 1.55${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of low loss window. Various integrated-optical devices have been proposed to perform this function, including conventional directional couplers, asymmetric Y-branching devices, asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometers and two-mode interference devices. Over the past several decades, the polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) has received particular attention as a material for developing smart window due to their electro-optical switchable properties. In this study, PDLC cells were fabricated using acrylate monomers, namely 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (2-HEA) and ethylene glycol phenyl ether acrylate (EGPA), and the effect of the monomer composition on their electro-optical properties was investigated. The monomer mixture with a low viscosity (~10 cps) was easily filled between indium tin oxide (ITO) glasses by capillary action at room temperature. PDLC cells prepared using the mixture ratio of 1 : 9 (2-HEA : EGPA) did not show a complete opaque state at a 0 V condition but exhibited unstable electro-optical properties under an electric field. As the LC composition increased in the reaction mixture for PDLC cell preparation, the $V_{th}$ (threshold voltage) and $V_{sat}$ (saturation voltage) values as well as contrast ratio (CR) increased. $V_{th}$ and $V_{sat}$ values also increased with the cell gap thickness. PDLC cells with a $20{\mu}m$ cell gap thickness exhibited higher CR than those with 10 and $40{\mu}m$ cell gap thicknesses. Particularly, PDLC cells prepared using the mixture ratio of 7 : 3 (2-HEA : EGPA) showed excellent electro-optical properties such as a low driving voltage and high contrast ratio.

This paper describes a 150-Mb/s monolithic optical receiver for plastic optical fiber link using a standard CMOS technology. The receiver integrates a photodiode using an N-well/P-substrate junction, a pre amplifier, a post amplifier, and an output driver. The size, PN-junction type, and the number of metal fingers of the photodiode are optimized to meet the link requirements. The N-well/P-substrate photodiode has a 200-${\mu}m$ by 200-${\mu}m$ optical window, 0.1-A/W responsivity, 7.6-pF junction capacitance and 113-MHz bandwidth. The monolithic receiver can successfully convert 150-Mb/s optical signal into digital data through up to 30-m plastic optical fiber link with -10.4 dBm of optical sensitivity. The receiver occupies 0.56-$mm^2$ area including electrostatic discharge protection diodes and bonding pads. To reduce unnecessary power consumption when the light is not over threshold or not modulating, a simple light detector and a signal detector are introduced. In active mode, the receiver core consumes 5.8-mA DC currents at 150-Mb/s data rate from a single 3.3 V supply, while consumes only $120{\mu}W$ in the sleep mode.

In this paper, new and simple optical transmission link with fixed dispersion management (DM) scheme, i.e., pre(post) compensation and residual dispersion per span (RDPS) are fixed to net residual dispersion (NRD) = 0 ps/nm, and optical phase conjugator (OPC) having optimal position depending on launch power in WDM transmission system is proposed. Also, effective launch power range of WDM channels resulting 1 dB eye opening penalty (EOP) is induced as a function of OPC position. First, it is confirmed that, for applying DM into WDM transmission link fixed pre(post)compensation and RDPS, which are independence on exact system parameters except launch power, sufficiently are used in WDM links, but OPC with optimal position is needed for effective compensating impairments of WDM channels. And, it is confirmed that effective launch power is broader in case of RDPS = 100 ps/nm than in RDPS = 50 ps/nm. But, it is shown that the best OPC position offset is -0.6 km from a point of view of power window, which is defined as difference between maximum and minimum effective launch power.
In this paper, we propose a digital image stabilization technique using edge detection and Lucas-Kanade optical flow in order to minimize the motion of the shaken image. The accuracy of motion estimation based on block matching technique depends on the size of search window, which results in long calculation time. Therefore it is not applicable to real-time system. In addition, since the size of vector depends on that of block, it is difficult to estimate the motion which is bigger than the block size. The proposed method extracts the trust region using edge detection, to estimate the motion of some critical points in trust region based on Lucas-Kanade optical flow algorithm. The experimental results show that the proposed method stabilizes the shaking of motion image effectively in real time.
The use of a glass-plate probe of rectangular shape is proposed for the measurement of transmission loss in optical waveguides. The light-collecting window is of a thin, rectangular shape and is perpendicular to the light streak, while the conventional fiberglass probe has a small circular face. This transversely elongated form results in a grate improvement of mechanical tolerance for the probe movement in the vortical as well as in the transverse direction. A theoretical investigation also presents a reasonable agreement with the experiments.

Fractal-space multiplexing using a moving window(MW) can multiplex holograms by moving a window left and right. and up and down. But, crosstalk occurs by two neighboring moving windows in the vertical direction of the holographic memory system and limits high-density information recording. Accordingly, we analyzed the crosstalk with the focal length of lens, the distance of MW, and the number of multiplexed hologram to record high-density infromation and presented the optical experimental results of fractal-space multiplexing using volumetric photorefractive crystal and disc type photopolymer.
In case of newly constructed buildings, the construction type is almost Curtain-wall system or large window in building skin. However, these kind of buildings have problems with regulations on building energy efficiency. And national regulations on building energy efficiency limit only the V-factor of window(except infiltration), it is hard to predict energy consumption of Curtain-wall buildings which gain large solar energy in summer. In this study, the influence of LSG(Light to Solar Gain) on energy performance was theoretically analyzed with simulation. LSG is the value of VLT divide SHGC and represents the optical performance of the glass or glazing. The Window & Therm program developed in LBNL was used to analyze window systems and EnergyPlus was used to building energy. Cases of glazing are three types; single coated Low-e clear glazing, tripple coated Low-e clear glazing, tripple coated Low-e tinted glazing. The results of this study are follows; 1) The building energy consumption of Alt-l, 2, 3 were about 300, 253, $259kWh/m^2{\cdot}yr$ respectively. Therefore, improvement of LSG could save the energy up to 16%. 2) The saved energy could be converted 1 billion won as annual benefit of total energy costs 3) SHGC and LSG more influence on cooling energy than heating energy in office buildings.

This research aimed to generate two points of daylighting application as follows: 1) providing daylight performance data with a variety of glazing materials for a large window and 2) designing and evaluating an experimental type of differentiated window. For this purpose, we compared the daylight and distribution performance of new defined type of window configuration to the conventional window counterpart with a variety of glazing materials. The comparison was made for a deep, south-facing perimeter zone with large window, without any interior obstruction. The conventional window is the base single homogeneous glass pane, where as the differentiated window uses of two different glazings; an upper daylight glazing with high visible transmission and lower view window with lower transmittal glass. The daylight performance data was translated into a ratio between outdoor illuminance and the interiors. The simulated analysis of the conventional window indicates that the interior light levels have been changed proportionally dependent on the transmittance of the applied glass. The comparison of daylight distribution analysis showed that the differentiated window has lots of photometric advantage by the optical function of upper daylight window. In particular, the contribution of higher daylight window into deep rear space must be stressed for daylighting application.
