Servo performance of a disk drive is greatly affected by the mechanical resonance frequencies of the head gimbal assembly(HGA). It is important (actor to allow broader bandwidth for servo system in improving overall drive performance. In this paper, an optimal design for ODD suspension is attempted to increase resonance frequencies. It was decided that the first resonant frequency in tracking direction was higher than 5㎑. In order to design a system a process or plant must be put into a mathematical form for analysis and evaluation, and an appropriate controller must be designed to attain the desired system response. In this paper, the mathematical model for an optical pickup actuator is proposed and an H .inf. controller is employed to obtain the optimal focusing/tracking servo system behavior. Simulation and experiments are carried out to verify the performance of the proposed model.
Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are unmanned underwater vessels to investigate sea environments, oceanography and deep-sea resources autonomously. Docking systems are required to increase the capability of the AUVs to recharge the batteries and to transmit data in real time for specific underwater works, such as repeated jobs at sea bed. This paper presents a visual servo control system for an AUV to dock into an underwater station with a camera mounted at the nose center of the AUV. To make the visual servo control system, this paper derives an optical flow model of a camera, where the projected motions of the image plane are described with the rotational and translational velocities of the AUV. This paper combines the optical flow equation of the camera with the AUVs equation of motion, and derives a state equation for the visual servoing AUV. This paper proposes a discrete-time MIMO controller minimizing a cost function. The control inputs of the AUV are automatically generated with the projected target position on the CCD plane of the camera and with the AUVs motion. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the modeling and the control law of the visual servoing AUV, simulations on docking the AUV to a target station are performed with the 6-dof nonlinear equations of REMUS AUV and a CCD camera.
This paper presents approaches to the control of the DVD(Digital Video Disk) system using DSP(Digital Signal Processor) in order to improve the precision and robustness. To improve the performance of the Pick-Up servo actuator of the digital video drive, the tracking and focusing servo control algorithms is applied to this system. Simulation results show the performance of the robust control algorithm applied the pick-up servo system comparing to the linear controller.
Ultra Precision Machining Techniques, such as manufacturing Micro Lens Array(MLA), off-axis mirror, $F-{\theta}$ lens for laser printer, are achieved, based on technologies in consequence of development of modern high-precision machining mechanism. Above all, FTS(Fast Tool Servo) and STS(Slow Tool Servo) are more innovative technologies for reducing time and development costs. In this paper, it is described that MLA machining technique by FTS, off-axis mirror machining technique by STS, optics for observing space, and development of infrared aspheric lens for a thermal imaging microscope.
This paper is a study about Ac servo motor position and speed control characteristics which depend on feedforward control, the acceleration / deceleration time constant after the interpolation, and PI control, automatic deceleration at corner in order to shape cutting control of feed drive system of the machine tool. The shape error caused by delay of the servo system in the direction of radius at the time of circular cutting is reduced by feedforward control. The shape error generated by the position command delay is minimized by using the acceleration / deceleration time constant after the interpolation. The results were verified to optical machining center experimentation of the machine tool.
Micro-features such as grooves and lenses, which perform optical functions in flat displays, should be manufactured with a good form accuracy because this is directly related to their optical performance. As the size of the display increases, it is very difficult to maintain a high relative accuracy because of the inherent geometric errors such as the waviness of a large-area plate. In this paper, the optical effect of these geometric errors is investigated, and surface-referenced micro-grooving to measure and compensate for such geometric errors on line is proposed to improve the form accuracy of the micro-grooves. A PZT-based fast depth adjustment servo system is implemented in the tool holder to maintain a uniform groove depth in reference to the wavy surface. Through experiments, the proposed method is shown to be an efficient way to produce high-quality micro- grooves on a wavy die surface.
Using disturbance observer (DOB) is effective in enhancing the performance of dynamic system in the presence of disturbances. Recently the definition of disturbance has been expanded to modeling uncertainty including parameter variation, internal disturbance. Various structures of DOB have been proposed to improve sensitivity of system for better disturbance rejection performance. However in the case of improvement of sensitivity function, it tends to bring poor transient response due to cross-coupling and phase lag. Furthermore it could be very sensitive to measurement noise due to increased peak of complementary sensitivity function. In this paper, a dual disturbance observer (Dual-DOB) is proposed to reduce the effect of such cross-coupling. It is possible for us to improve the sensitivity function with additional external DOB with hardly affecting complementary sensitivity function. Thus it is able to have robustness against measurement noise. Since we are able to design DOBs of internal and external loop independently, we could prevent transient response quality from degrading while improving the sensitivity function. The proposed Dual-DOB is applied to a commercial optical disk drive tracking servo system. The experimental result shows that the Dual-DOB is an effective method in rejecting the disturbance as well as improving the tracking performance.
A predictive functional control (PFC) scheme for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) servo systems is proposed in this paper. The PFC-based method is first introduced in the control design of speed loop. Since the accuracy of the PFC model is influenced by external disturbances and speed detection quantization errors of the low distinguishability optical encoder in servo systems, it is noted that the standard PFC method does not achieve satisfactory results in the presence of strong disturbances. This paper adopted the Kalman filter to observe the load torque, the rotor position and the rotor angular velocity under the condition of a limited precision encoder. The observations are then fed back into PFC model to rebuild it when considering the influence of perturbation. Therefore, an improved PFC method, called the PFC+Kalman filter method, is presented, and a high performance PMSM servo system was achieved. The validity of the proposed controller was tested via experiments. Excellent results were obtained with respect to the speed trajectory tracking, stability, and disturbance rejection.
