A series of $Er^{3+}/Yb^{3+}$ co-doped fluorophosphate glasses with varying $YbF_3$ concentration were prepared by a high temperature melt quenching technique. Absorption and emission cross-sections were determined by using the McCumber theory. The larger emission cross-section ($9.86{\times}10^{-21}cm^2$) and longer fluorescence lifetime (12.37 ms) were obtained for the $^4I_{13/2}{\rightarrow}^4I_{15/2}$ transition of ABS3Er4Yb glass. The sensitivity and temperature of the maximum sensitivity were evaluated by the fluorescence intensity ratio method from the measured upconversion spectra. The results were discussed and compared to the other reported glasses.

In the injection molding of plastic optical lenses, the molding conditions have critical effects on the quality of the molded lenses. Since there are many molding parameters involved in injection molding process, determination of the molding conditions for lens molding is very important in order to precisely control the surface contours of an optical lens. Therefore this paper presents the application of neural network in suggesting the optimized molding conditions for improving the quality of molded parts based on data of FE Analysis carried out through CAE software, Timon-3D. Suggested model in this paper, which serves to learn from the data of FE Analysis and induce the values for optimized molding conditions. has been implemented for searching the molding conditions without void and with minimized thickness shrinkage at lens center of injection molding optical lens. As the result of this study. we have confirmed that void creation at the inside of lens is primarily determined by mold temperature and thickness shrinkage at center of lens is primarily determined by the parameters such as holding pressure and mold temperature.
This paper shows the best selection and combination of glass in lens design, to correct a chromatic aberration using achromatic and apochromatic conditions. Using this research result, we have designed a telecentric lens for machine vision in the full range of visible light. We obtain good optical quality in the form of a quite small RMS wavefront error of $0.057{\lambda}$ in the super-broadband wavelength range 380 nm -780 nm. This result is better than that for a common telecentric lens in the visible wavelength range 486.1-656.2 nm.

This paper deals with mirror grinding of a small-sized aspherical lens by the resin bonded diamond spherical wheel. Up to now, a spherical lens has been used for the lens of the optical communication optical part. However, recently, the aspherical optical parts are mainly used in order to attempt the improvement in image quality and miniaturization of the optical device. It is possible to manufacture the aspherical lens which is presently being used in optical instrument through ultra-precision machinery technology. Also, to realize compactability, efforts are being made to produce a micro aspherical lens, for which the development of a high-precision, micro molding die is inevitable. Therefore, extensive research is being done on methods of producing an micro aspherical surface by high-precision grinding. In this paper, the spherical wheel was trued by cup-type truer and tool path was calculated by the radius of curvature of wheel after truing and dressing. And then in the aspherical grinding experiment, WC material which is used as a molding die for the small-sized aspherical lens was ground. It results was that a form accuracy of 0.1918${\mu}m$ P-V and a surface roughness of 0.064${\mu}m$ Rmax.
In this study, a binary dielectric annular nanoring lens is proposed to cover the full range of optical phase. The lens is designed numerically, based on the effective-medium theory. The performance of the proposed lens is verified for the cases of single-focal and dual-focal lenses. The efficiency of a single-focal lens is improved by 17.19% compared to a binary dielectric lens, and that of a dual-focal lens shows enhancements of 13.11% and 49.41% at the two focal points. This lens design can be applied to other optical components with axially symmetric structures.
A new compact conformal dome optical system was established, and the aberration characteristics of the dome were investigated using Zernike aberration theory. The aberrations induced by the dome at different fields of regard (FORs) from 30° to 100° were effectively balanced by a rotating cylindrical lens. This kind of optical system can be widely used in top-view optical searching devices. A design method was introduced and the optimization results analyzed in detail. The results showed that the Zernike aberrations produced by the conformal dome were decreased dramatically. Also, a complete conformal optical system was designed, to further illustrate the aberration correction effect of the rotating cylindrical lens. Using a cylindrical lens not only provided a large FOR, but also simplified enormously the structure of the conformal optical system.
In general, such methods as interferometers or wavefront sensors are commonly used for testing of an optical system and optical components. In these cases, the surrounding environments are unlikely to affect the measurements. On the other hand, intraocular lenses of hydrophilic materials with special properties experience a certain difficulty in testing the optical properties. An intraocular lens is dried in the air, which causes deformation and changes the optical characteristics such as index of refraction and thickness. Thus, it is hard to measure the optical characteristics of an intraocular lens by using common methods. In this study, a special structure is used for measuring of the transmission wavefront aberration and effective focal length of an intraocular lens of hydrophilic materials by using a Shark-Hartmann sensor among the various measuring methods. As an application of this measuring method, this study shows a simple method to measure the index of refraction of unknown liquids with a plano-convex lens with a well known index of refraction. Also, this method is used to measure the optical properties of a plano-convex such as index of refraction and curvature by using a liquid with a well known index of refraction.

In this study, an optical PCB was proposed which can overcome the limitations of the conventional PCB, and a new structure with pluggable lens was considered for a high-efficient passive alignment. The structure was a lens-added optical waveguide for the improvement of misalignment between the lens and the waveguide in the alignment. Also, as it had a barrier-type structure to prevent the surface damage of the lens by desorption, the high-efficient passive alignment can be realized. The structure was designed by optimizing the simulation and the fabrication process of the pluggable lens structure was conducted using the repetitive photolithography and the thermal reflow. The optical waveguide with the lens-integrated pluggable interconnection was fabricated by the imprint process using the polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) replica mold. Therefore, we confirmed the possibility of pluggable lens-added optical waveguide structure fabrication for high-efficient passive alignment.
In this paper, the fundamental properties of diffractive optical element were investigated. Also, this work deals with theoretical approaches for achromatization in DOE's optical system based on thin lens theory. It is found that achromatization could be satisfied by one hybrid lens only, which is composed of a diffractive and a refractive element. In order to have compact optical system, we used the tele-photo type lens composed of a positive and a negative power elements instead of retro-focus lens. From the Gaussian brackets and Seidel aberration theory, the initial design was numerically obtained. The aberration properties of an initial design was aplanat and flat field. In order to correct the chromatic aberrations, refractive and diffractive elements were used on front element. This hybrid lens is also useful for correction of higher order aberrations. Compared to conventional design composed of refractive lenses only, this approach dramatically improved the compactness of the optical system. Finally, residual aberration balancing results in a lens with focal length of 3.89 mm and overall length of 5.19 mm, which has enough performance over an f-number of 4.0. Also, it is expected to fulfill all the requirements of a digital still camera lens. This optical system is superior to the current refractive lens system in the number of elements, weight, and aberration properties. rties.
Progressive addition lenses (PAL) have very wide application in the modern glasses market. The unique progressive surface can make a lens have progressive refractive power, which can meet the human eye's different needs for distance-vision and near-vision. According to the national glasses fabrication standard, the difference between actual optical power after fabrication and nominal design value should be less than 0.1D over the lens effective area. The optical power distribution of PAL is determined directly by the surface. Consequently, the surface processing accuracy requirement is proposed. Beginning from the surface expressions of progressive addition lenses, the relationship equations between the surface sag and optical power distribution are derived. They are demonstrated through tolerance analysis and test of an example progressive addition lens with addition of 2.09D (5.46D-7.55D). The example addition surface is fabricated under given accuracy by a single-point diamond ultra-precision machine. The optical power of the PAL example is tested with a focal-meter after fabrication. The optical power addition difference between test result and design nominal value is 0.09D, which is less than 0.1D. The derived relationship between the surface error and optical power is verified from the PAL example simulation and test result. It can provide theoretical tolerance analysis proof for the PAL surface fabricating process.
