  • In this paper, we introduce the multi-target-based auto surveillance algorithm. Multi-target-based surveillance system detects intrusion objects in the specified areas. The proposed algorithm can divide into two parts: i) background generation, ii) object extraction. In this paper, one of the optical flow equation methods for estimation of gradient method used to generate the background [2]. In addition, the objects and back- ground video images that are continually entering the differential extraction.

  • We have been developed an intelligent mobile robot with an artificial olfactory function to recognize odours and to track odour source location. This mobile robot also has been installed an engine for speech recognition and synthesis, and is controlled by wireless communication. An artificial olfactory system based on array of 7 gas sensors has been installed in the mobile robot for odour recognition, and 11 gas sensors also are located in the bottom of robot to track odour sources. 3 optical sensors are also included in the intelligent mobile robot, which is driven by 2 D.C. motors, for clash avoidance in a way of direction toward an odour source.   • The Holographic Particle Velocimetry system can be a promising optical tool leer the measurements of three dimensional particle velocities. In this research, validation experiments for the development of holographic particle velocimetry system for spray droplets were conducted with measuring the velocities of glass beads on a rotating disk. Uncertainty analysis was performed to identify the sources of all relevant errors and to evaluate their magnitude. The measurement results of distance between glass beads, size, and velocities obtained with holographic method are compared reasonably well with the known values within acceptable range of errors.

  • There are 4 servo systems in a DVD drive such as a focus servo system, a tracking servo system, a sled servo system and a spindle servo system. Focus servo system maintains relative distance between lens and disk. In this paper, two plant models for the focus servo system will be presented. One of them is newly developed and the other is conventional. Focus error signal between lens and disk is detected using LDV 2 beam method. (omitted)

  • Detecting a small threat object either fast moving or floating on shallow water presents a formidable challenge to shipboard sensor systems, which must determine whether or not to launch defensive weapons in a timely manner. An integrated multisensor concept is envisioned wherein the combined use of active and passive sensor is employed for the detection of short duration targets in dense ocean surface clutter to maximize detection range. The objective is to develop multisensor integration techniques that operate on detection data prior to track formation while simultaneously fusing contacts to tracks. In the system concept, detections from a low grazing angle search radar render designations to a sensor-search infrared sensor for target classification which in turn designates an active electro-optical sensor for sector search and target verification.

  • 속도제어루프내에서 외란의 각속도를 감지하여 짐발을 안정화시키기 위해 사용하는 동조자이로스코프에 대한 기본원리 및 특성을 분석하였다. 또한 비례모드 자이로스코프의 모델을 정확하게 제시하였으며, 제시된 모델은 공진 특성을 가지고 있기 때문에 기존에 사용하고 있는 2차 시스템 모델보다 실제 시스템의 특성과 유사하므로 일반적인 비례모드 자이로스코프에서도 적용 가능하다. 실제 시스템인 전자광학추적기에 사용할 경우 발생되는 문제점을 알아보고 그 해결 방안을 제시하였다.

  • This paper presents a beat gesture recognition method to synchronize the tempo of a robot playing a piano with the desired tempo of the user. To detect an unstructured beat gesture expressed by any part of a body, we apply an optical flow method, and obtain the trajectories of the center of gravity and normalized central moments of moving objects in images. The period of a beat gesture is estimated from the results of the fast Fourier transform. In addition, we also apply a motion control method by which robotic fingers are trained to follow a set of trajectories, Since the ability to track the trajectories influences the sound a piano generates, we adopt an iterative learning control method to reduce the tracking error.

  • We present a real-time interactive particle-art with human motion based on computer vision techniques. We used computer vision techniques to reduce the number of equipments that required for media art appreciations. We analyze pros and cons of various computer vision methods that can adapted to interactive digital media art. In our system, background subtraction is applied to search an audience. The audience image is changed into particles with grid cells. Optical flow is used to detect the motion of the audience and create particle effects. Also we define a virtual button for interaction. This paper introduces a series of computer vision modules to build the interactive digital media art contents which can be easily configurated with a camera sensor.

  • In order to understand biological phenomena accurately, single molecule techniques using a physical research approach to molecular interactions have been developed, and are now widely being used to study complex biological processes. In this review, we discuss some of the single molecule methods which are composed of two major parts: single molecule spectroscopy and manipulation. In particular, we explain how these techniques work and introduce the current research which uses them. Finally, we present the oral biology research using the single molecule methods.

  • Researches for actuator which is appropriate to slim optical disk drive (ODD) have been progressed for a long time. Various types of actuators are suggested to secure high performances with slim thickness. In this paper, the slim actuator with symmetric electromagnetic (EM) circuit is suggested to apply slim ODD. Various EM circuits are proposed to increase EM force in the focusing and the tracking directions. Flexible mode frequencies and driving sensitivities are increased by using stress distribution and design of experiment (DOE). Consequently, final model is suggested to have high flexible mode frequencies and driving sensitivities.
