SOI 슬롯 광도파로 기반 캐스케이드 링 공진기 바이오·케미컬 집적광학 센서의 효용성 해석 (Application Utility Analysis of Series-cascaded Ring Resonators Based on SOI Slot Optical Waveguides in Integrated Optical Biochemical Sensor)

  • This study investigated via computational analysis the application utility of series-cascaded ring resonators based on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) slot optical waveguides in integrated optical biochemical sensors. The radii of the two rings in the series-cascaded ring resonators were 59.4 ㎛ and 77.6 ㎛ respectively, and the coupling distance was 0.5 ㎛. The series-cascaded ring resonators were computationally analyzed using FIMMProp and PICWave numerical software. The free spectral range (FSR), full width at half maximum (FWHM), sensitivity, and quality-factor (Q-factor) of the series-cascaded ring resonators were 12.2 nm, 0.134 nm, 4100 nm/RIU, and 11580, respectively, and the measurement range was calculated to be slightly smaller than 3×10-3 RIU. Although the measurement range was smaller than that of the single ring resonator, upon considering other characteristic parameters, the series-cascaded ring resonators are found to be more effective as integrated sensors than single ring resonators.

Laser Phase Noise to Electronic Phase Noise Conversion in Optical Links Comprising Optical Resonators

  • This article investigates the mechanism of electronic signal phase noise degradation induced by laser phase noise in optical links comprising optical resonators. Through theoretical derivation, we find that the phase noise of the output electronic signal has the same spectral shape of optical intensity noise as the output of the optical resonator. We propose that the optical resonator transfers laser phase noise to light intensity fluctuation and then the intensity fluctuation is converted to electric phase noise through AM-PM conversion mechanism in the photodiode. An optical link comprising a Fabry-Perot resonator was constructed to verify the proposed mechanism. The experimental results agree with our theoretical prediction verifying that the supposition is correct.

  • 본 논문에서는 결합 링 공진기 구조 기반의 가변 광신호 지연기를 고 굴절률 차이를 갖는 폴리머 물질을 이용하여 설계 및 제작하였다. 링들의 FSR은 100 GHz 로 설계하였고, 8 개의 링들이 결합된 구조를 사용하였다. 버스 도파로에 가까운 두 개의 링들이 공진하는 경우 약 100 ps, 4 개의 링들이 공진하는 경우 180 ps 정도의 지연시간이 측정되었으며, 이는 이론적인 결과에 가까움을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • In this paper, the orthogonal properties of the eigenmodes of optical resonators which have phase conjugate mirrors at both ends are derived. The modes which propagate in resonators are descdribed by the Huygens integral. Then, the eigeneuqation which is needed in order to prove the orthogonality of the eigenmodes of the resonator is obtained from this representation. When the kernel being a part of the eigenequation is Hermitian as in conventional resonators and in optical resonator with only one phase conjugate mirror, one can show that the eigenmodes have essentially biorthogonal relations, which are satisfied the set of modes propagating in one direcdtion around the resonator and the adjoint set of modes propagating in the reversed direction.

All Optical Logic Gates Based on Two Dimensional Plasmonic Waveguides with Nanodisk Resonators

  • In this paper, we propose, analyze and simulate the performances of some new plasmonic logic gates in two dimensional plasmonic waveguides with nanodisk resonators, using the numerical method of finite difference time domain (FDTD). These gates, including XOR, XNOR, NAND, and NOT, can provide the highly integrated optical logic circuits. Also, by cascading and combining these basic logic gates, any logic operation can be realized. These devices can be utilized significantly in optical processing and telecommunication devices.

  • We have investigated the wavelength tuning characteristics due to the vernier effect of coupled-ring reflector laser diode including active region within resonators using time-domain modeling. It is shown that the wavelength can be widely tuned with side mode suppression ratio more than 30dB by adjusting the refractive index difference between mismatched rings.

  • 다중모드 간섭기를 이용한 반도체 이중사각형 링 공진기에서의 단일 파장 모드 발진특성을 관찰하였다. 실험에 사용된 공진기의 에피택시는 발진 중심파장이 $1.55{\mu}m$인 InGaAsP-InP 다중양자우물 구조를 활성층으로 사용하여 제작되었다. 공진기의 구조는 다중모드 간섭기를 결합기로 이용한 이중사각형 링 공진기이며 발진특성을 측정하였다. 여러 가지 구조 변수를 즉 공진기의 구조 및 크기, 다중모드 간섭기의 길이를 변화시키며 실험을 진행하였다. 실험 결과 다양한 크기와 구성에서 단일파장모드선택 특성이 잘 나타남을 확인할 수 있었다.

Terahertz Wave Transmission Properties of Metallic Periodic Structures Printed on a Photo-paper

  • We printed a one-dimensional array of metallic wires and a two-dimensional array of metallic split ring resonators on a photo-paper by using a high-dots-per-inch resolution printer and an ink with silver nano-particles. The printed sample sizes are $1.0{\times}1.0cm^2$. The transmission measured by a terahertz time domain spectroscopy system shows that the arrays of wires and split ring resonators could act as polarizers and band-stop filters, respectively, in a terahertz frequency region.

단 방향 단일모드 발진 반도체 사각 링 공진기의 광 특성 연구 (Optical Characteristics of Unidirectional Single-mode Lasing Square Ring Cavities)

  • 본 연구에서는 단일모드 사각형 링 공진기에 테이퍼-스텝 구조를 적용하여 단 방향 발진을 구현하였으며, 다양한 테이퍼-스텝 구조 변수를 갖는 소자를 제작하여 그 특성을 분석하였다. 소자는 InP기판을 기반으로 성장된 InGaAsP/InGaAs 다중 양자 우물구조의 반도체에 제작하였으며, 제작된 소자의 출력과 광 손실을 측정하였다. 이를 바탕으로 주어진 반도체 에피 구조와 단일모드 사각 링 공진기에서의 최적화된 구조 변수를 도출할 수 있었다.
