  • High-resolution telescope from space comprises electro-optical imagery with a ground resolution tying within the range of 1 to 5 meters. According to information documented in the literature up to now, most primary mirrors verified and flown in optical space missions have been lightweighted made from Zerodur, ULE, beryllium, SiC or aluminium. A trade off study was performed to determine as a &lightweighted& by factors like backside cell pattern, rib thickness, face thickness, mirror fixation device location and material and so on based on structural performance for primary mirror in submeter class spaceborne telescope.

  • W made a near-field optical microscope(NSOM) apparatus and evaluated it. To control the distance between a tip and a sample, we used a piezoelectric translator and a He-Ne laser, and consequently obtained the spatial resolution better than 100nm. For the semiconductor spectroscopic applications, we performed photoluminescence and photocurrent experiments on the GaAs/AlGaAs MQWs samples. In the case of PL experiment, we obtained the low signal to nose ration due to the extremely small power of a light source passing through the nanometric optical fiber tip. However photocurrent experiment shows a hundred times better signal to noise than that of PL experiment. This suggests that photocurrent experiment using NSOM have the possibility to provide the spatial resolution better than 10nm.

  • Recently, optical 3D scanners are frequently used for inspection of parts, assembly and manufacturing tooling. One of the advantages is being able to measure a large area fast and accurately. Owing to recent advances in high-resolution image sensing technology, high power illumination technology, and high speed microprocessors, the accuracy and resolution of optical 3D scanners are being improved rapidly. In order to measure the entire geometry of objects, multiple scans have to be performed in various setups by moving either the objects or the scanner. This paper introduces novel methods to measure the entire geometry of objects by automatically changing the setups and then aligning the scanned data in a single coordinate system.

  • A quantitative analysis has been made to estimate the horizontal variation of physical parameters in a loop type active prominence by analyzing Call H&K and $H_{\varepsilon}{\ldots}$ spectra taken from such an active prominence (appeared on May 23, 1981 with position angle 251 degree) with Littrow type spectrograph attached to 25cm coronagraph at Norikura Coronal Station of National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. The spectral resolution is 1.12A/mm and the spatial resolution is 25'/mm for Call H&K lines. The present study shows that the turbulent velocity ranges from 10km/s to 20 km/s in the loop prominence, which are in good agreement with those of Hirayama (1989). It is also found that the temperature of the loop prominence is higher than that of quiescent prominences$(\~8,000 K)$ by about 4,000 K, whose temperature deviation seems very high.

  • In this paper, we have proposed an automatic inspection system for cracks on the surface of a structure. The proposed system consists of the imaging system and the veh~cle system. The imaging system. a set of optical sensor, lens, illuminator, storage and their configuration, images the scene and store it on the hard disk. We adopted a linescan camera of 5000 pixel density to achieve high resolution without loss of simplicity. The vehicle system that moves the optical system IS ~mplemented by an AGV. The AGV moves forward at constant velocity and avoid obstacles to acquire a stable image. We have cmplemented an experimental system and have acquired images of the wall of hallway. The image is of 0.1-mmipixel resolution and the scanning time IS about 1 mlsec. The allow able scan.

  • Optimum characteristics of digital X-ray sensor components were analyzed to develop intra- oral dental digital X-ray image sensor using indirect method. Parametric analysis was carried out to optimize the phosphor thickness and the fiber optic plate (FOP) coupling to charge coupled device (CCD). X-ray absorption and light diffusion in the phosphor layer were analyzed by the Monte Carlo method. Real time X-ray image was obtained with prototype X- ray image sensor using general CCD camera with 1∼10 Ip/mm resolution. It has been previously shown that large resolution degradation in X-ray images was caused by miss alignment of FOP to CCD and optical adhesive selection. In this study, we reported that X-ray image quality was greatly improved by using optimized characteristics of alignment device and phosphor thickness.

  • Picosecond time-correlated single photon counting system and time-resolved luminescence spectrometer were constructed, employing a mode-locked picosecond laser, fast electronics, and microchannel plate tube. It has been shown that the instrument response function critically depends on laser pulse shape, timing jitter and walk of the electronics, and characteristics of detector and amplifier. Correcting time dispersion in the optical system, the best instrument response function obtained appears to be 25 ps, which made it possible to measure the luminescence lifetime with less than 10 ps resolution in the picosecond to microsecond range. range.

  • We present a new digital phase measuring method for heterodyne optical interferometry, which providers high measuring speed up to 6 m/s with a fine displacement resolution of 0.1 nanometer. The key idea is combining two distinctive digital phase measuring techniques with mutually complementary characteristics to earth other one is counting the Doppler shift frequency counting with 20 MHz beat frequency for high-velocity measurement and the other is the synchronous phase demodulation with 2.0 kHz beat frequency for extremely fine displacement resolution. The two techniques are operated in switching mode in accordance wish the object speed in a synchronized way. Experimental results prove that the proposed dual mode phase measuring scheme is realized with a set of relatively simple electronic circuits of beat frequency shifting, heterodyne phase detection. and low-pass filtering.

  • During the CareBeijing campaign in September 2006, Imaging Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (IDOAS) measurements were made over the city of Beijing, China using a spatial resolution of 146 pixels horizontally and 61 pixels vertically, each with a field of view of $0.133^{\circ}$ and $0.072^{\circ}$ in the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively. Using Fraunhofer reference spectra (FRS) for the evaluation of data for two consecutive days, the diurnal variation of $NO_2$ distributions was determined from data measured every single hour from 08:00 until 16:00 on September 9 and 10. Both days presented a fairly clear sky with high visibility. The setup allowed detailed images of the low surface $NO_2$ distribution over Beijing. Images with less than a 30-min temporal resolution showed variation of plume dispersal in both horizontal and vertical directions. An in-situ measurement was also conducted. Results from both instruments are interpreted by considering local emission sources and wind conditions.

  • Optimum conditions for immobilization of aminoacylase on chitosan were investigated, and the results are summerized as follows: Optimum conditions for activation of chitosan were pH 6.0, 0.2% of glutaraldehyde, and 120 minutes of reaction time. Enzyme concentration and reaction time for immobilization of aminoacylase on the activated chitosan were 80mg/20ml, and 90 minutes, respectively, and the yield of activity of the immobilized enzyme was 42.6%.
