As a feasibility study on development of a gamma imaging probe, we developed a scintillating film-based gamma imaging detector that can obtain scintillation images with information of gamma-ray distribution. The scintillating film-based gamma imaging detector was composed of a sensing probe, an image intensifier, and a beam profiler. To detect and transmit scintillation image, the sensing probe was fabricated by coupling a scintillating film, a fiber-optic image conduit, and a fiber-optic taper, consecutively. First, the optical images of USAF 1951 resolution target were obtained and then, modulation transfer function values were calculated to test the image quality of the sensing probe. Second, we measured the scintillation images according to the activity of the 137Cs and the distance between the surface of 137Cs and the distal-end of sensing probe. Finally, the intensities of scintillating light as functions of the activity and the distance were evaluated from the region of interest in the scintillation image. From the results of this study, it is expected that a fiber-optic gamma imaging detector can be developed to detect gamma-rays emitted from radiopharmaceuticals during radioimmunoguided surgery.
In this paper, we manufactured the regenerated FBG by the thermal annealing of seed FBG based on UV irradiation. The writing conditions of regenerated FBGs were investigated in four types of optical fiber. FBGs written in $H_2$-free fiber were erased and not regenerated during the thermal annealing. FBG written in $H_2$ loaded Boron co-doped fiber was erased at the temperature of about $580^{\circ}C$ and regenerated about $590^{\circ}C$. However, the extinction of regenerated FBG started at the temperature over $900^{\circ}C$ and then FBG disappeared out. FBG written in $H_2$ loaded Ge high doped fiber was erased and regenerated around the temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ and maintained until the end of the thermal annealing. The reflection of the regenerated FBG was decreased about 12 dB and the center wavelength of the regenerated FBG was shifted about 0.7 nm compared with that of the seed FBG. The thermal characteristics of the regenerated FBG were analyzed by reheating from room temperature to $980^{\circ}C$. As results, the regenerated FBG had survived without a decrease of reflection and the thermal sensitivity was $15pm^{\circ}C$.
A blazed $GxL^{TM}$ device is described as having high optical efficiency (> 70% for RGB lasers), and high contrast ratio (> 10,000:1), and that is highly reliable when used in a large-area laser projection system. It has a robust design and precise stress control technology to maintain a uniform shape (bow and tilt) of more than 6,000 ribbons, a $0.25-{\mu}m$ CMOS compatible fabrication processing and planarization techniques to reduce fluctuation of the ribbons, and a reliable Al-Cu reflective film that provided protection against a high-power laser. No degradation in characteristics of the GxL device is observed after operating a 5,000- lumen projector for 2,000 hours and conducting 2,000 temperature cycling tests at $-20^{\circ}C$ and $+80^{\circ}C$. At the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi, Japan the world's largest laser projection screen with a size of 2005 inches (10 m ${\times}$ 50 m) and 6 million pixels (1,080 ${\times}$ 5,760) was demonstrated.
Fabrication and Characterization of Bi$_{2}$/Sr$_{2}$/CaCu$_{2}$/O$_{8}$(Bi2212) superconductor thick films were fabricated successfully on C tapes by liquid reaction between Cu-free precursors of Bi$_{x}$/SrCaO/$_{y}$(x=1.2-2) and Cu tapes. Cu-free Bi-Sr-Ca-O powder mixtures were screen-printed on Cu tapes and heat-treated at 850-87$0^{\circ}C$ for several minutes in air oxygen nitrogen and low oxygen pressure. In order to obtain the optimum heat-treatment condition we studied the effect of the precursor composition the printing thickness and the heat-treatment atmosphere on the superconducting properties of Bi2212 films and the reaction mechanism. Microstructures and phases of thick films were analyzed by films and the reaction mechanism. Microstructures and phases of thick films were analyzed by optical microscope and XRD. The electric properties of superonducting films were examined by the four probe method. At heat-treatment temperature the thick films were in a partially molten state by liquid reaction between CuO of the oxidized copper tape and the precursors which were printed on Cu tapes. During the heat-treatment procedure Bi2212 superconducting particle nucleate and grow in preferred orientations.ons.s.
Transparent conductive films of single wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) were prepared by spray coating method. The effect of acid treatment on the SWCNT films was investigated. The field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) shows that acid treatment can remove dispersing agent. The electrical and optical properties of acid-treated films were enhanced compared with those of as deposited SWCNT films. Nitric acid ($HNO_3$), sulfuric acid ($H_2SO_4$), nitric acid:sulfuric acid (3:1) were used for post treatment. Although all solutions reduced sheet resistance of CNT films, nitric acid can improve electrical characteristics efficiently. During acid treatment, transmittance was increased continuously with time. But the sheet resistance was decreased for the first 20 minutes and then increased again. Post-treated SWCNT films were transparent (85%) in the visible range with sheet resistance of about $162{\Omega}/sq$. In this paper we discuss simple fabrication, which is suitable for different types of large-scale substrates and simple processes to improve properties of SWCNT films.
For the purpose of annihilating tumor in body, hematoporphyrin as a photosensitizer was coated onto magnetic particles of $Fe_3O_4$ prepared by coprecipitation which could be concentrated around the tumor by magnetic field. The photosensitizer was applied differently before, during and after adsorbing the 1st surfactant on the particles. Its added amount was $5{\times}10^{-4}/mol$, and the coating reaction proceeded at temperatures of 60, 70 and 8$0^{\circ}C$. The amounts of photosensitizer coated on the magnetic particles were obtained by calculating an optical density with the maximum UV spectrum. As a result of the UV analysis, the coating amount of photosensitizer increased with higher reaction temperatures. When applied at 8$0^{\circ}C$ after adsorbing the 1st surfactant, the photosensitizer was coated with a maximum value of $3.8{\times}10^{-3}/mo1/$\ell$$. The TGA analysis revealed that the ferrofluids included the particles of 30.115 g/$\ell$. It was suggested that the magnetite particles was coated with photosensitizer of $1.26{\times}10^{-4}/mo1/g$. A small-sized device for magnetic field and light emission was designed, in which LED sheets coverts the permanent magnet of Nd-Fe-B. The LED sheet was connected in series circuit and also protected with a silicon tube. The power was supplied with rechargable battery of 9V and 100-120mA.
Over the last decade, zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films have attracted considerable attention owing to large band gap of 3.37 eV and large exciton binding energy of 60 meV at room temperature [1-3]. Recent interest in ZnO related researches has been switched into the fabrication and characterization of low-dimensional nanostructures, such as nano-wires and nano-dots that can be applicable to manufacture the optoelectronic devices such as ultraviolet lasers, light-emitting-diodes and detectors. Since the optical properties of ZnO nano-structures might be distinct from those of bulk materials or thin films, the low-dimensional phenomena should be examined further. In order to utilize such advanced optoelectronic devices, one of the challenges is how to control the surface state related emissions that are drastically increased with increasing the density of the nano-structures and the surface-to-volume ratio. This paper reports the synthesis and characterization of self-assembled ZnO hexagonal nano-disks grown by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering. X-ray diffraction data and scanning electron microscopy data showed that ZnO hexagonal nano-disks were nucleated on top of the flat surfaces as the film thickness reached to 1.56 ${\mu}m$ and then the number of nano-disks increased with increasing the film thickness. The lateral size of hexagonal nano-disks was ~720 nm and height was ~74 nm. The strong photo luminescence spectra obtained at 10 K was also observed, which was assigned to a surface exciton emission at 3.3628 eV arising from the surface sites of hexagonal nano-disks.
Sb-doped $SnO_2$ (ATO) transparent conducting films are fabricated using horizontal ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposition (HUSPD) to form uniform and compact film structures with homogeneously supplied precursor solution. To optimize the molar concentration and transparent conducting performance of the ATO films using HUSPD, we use precursor solutions of 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, and 0.30 M. As the molar concentration increases, the resultant ATO films exhibit more compact surface structures because of the larger crystallite sizes and higher ATO crystallinity because of the greater thickness from the accelerated growth of ATO. Thus, the ATO films prepared at 0.25 M have the best transparent conducting performance ($12.60{\pm}0.21{\Omega}/{\square}$ sheet resistance and 80.83% optical transmittance) and the highest figure-of-merit value ($9.44{\pm}0.17{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}^{-1}$). The improvement in transparent conducting performance is attributed to the enhanced carrier concentration by the improved ATO crystallinity and Hall mobility with the compact surface structure and preferred (211) orientation, ascribed to the accelerated growth of ATO at the optimized molar concentration. Therefore, ATO films fabricated using HUSPD are transparent conducting film candidates for optoelectronic devices.
