Multi-mode coding method is a reliable DC-suppression method. There are two ways to improve the DC-suppression performance. One is improving scrambler's performance, and the other is improving selection criteria. The latter uses the MRDS(minimum running digital sum) criterion. It is easy to calculate, but its performance goes down when the length of codeword is getting longer. The MSW(mean squared weight) criterion that is known as the best so far regardless of the length of codeword has the high complexity. In this paper, we present the new selection criteria, MPRDS(minimum peak RDS) and A BSRDS(absolute RDS). Their performance are close to the MSW, implementation is simple. And also we present the SC(sign change) that has a subsidiary role with the original selection criteria and improve the capacity.
A source code is developed on the basis of Berreman's 4$\times$4 matrix formalism for the analysis of polarization transmission characteristics of twisted nematic liquid crystal display. By using the program, the polarization transmission characteristics of liquid crystal cells and polarizers are analyzed. For a normally white twisted nematic liquid crystal cell, we obtained a family of iso-contrast contours which helps to understand the viewing angle characteristics of the liquid crystal display device by using the cell. The program also help us to understand the variation of the degree of polarization as well as the deviation of the state of polarization of the light transmitted through the polarizer commonly used in the LCD according to the change in incidence angle. This result suggests the contrast of the images appearing on the LCD can be limited by the characteristics of the polarizer in addition to the liquid crystal cell.

Recently, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems stands in the spotlight of industry as a common and useful tool in manufacturing, supply chain management (SCM) and stock management. In the near future, low-cost RFID Electronic Product Code; (EPC) or smart-labels may be a practical replacement for optical barcodes on consumer items. However, manufacturing cheap and small RFID tags, and developing secure RFID authentication Protocols are problems which need to be solved. In spite of advances in semiconductor technology, computation and storage ability of the tag are so limited that it is difficult and too expensive to apply existing crypto-systems to RFID tags. Thus it is necessary to create a new protocol which would require less storage space and lower computation costs and that is secure in the RFID system's environments. In this paper, we propose a RFID authentication protocol that is secure against location tracking and spoofing attacks. Our protocol can be used as a practical solution for privacy protection because it requires less computations in database than the previous RFID authentication protocol.

We report on multi-wavelength observations of AA Ori, a Young Stellar Object in Orion-A star-forming region. AA Ori is known to have a pre-transitional disk based on infrared observations including Spitzer/IRS data. We construct its broadband spectral energy distribution (SED) by not only taking data in the optical and IR region but also including Herschel/PACS, JCMT/SCUBA, and SMA observational data. We use the Monte Carlo radiative transfer code (RADMC-3D) to reconstruct the SED with a viscous accretion disk model initialized by a radially continuous disk and finally having an inner and outer dusty disk separated by a dust-depleted radial gap. By comparing the model SEDs with different configurations of disk parameters, we discuss the limits to find a single solution of model parameters to fit the data. We suggest that some models with a modified inner disk surface density gradient and some degree of dust depletion in the inner disk can explain the AA Ori's SED, from which we infer that the inner disk of AA Ori has evolved. We present that model configurations of a pre-transitional disk with a large gap extended to 60-80 AU in a settled dusty disk of a few hundred AU size with a high inclination angle (~60°) also create model SEDs close to the observed one. To distinguish whether the disk has a just-opened narrow gap or a large gap, with an altered surface density of the inner disk extended to 10 AU, we suggest a further investigation of AA Ori with high angular resolution observations.
We performed CCD photometric observations of the W-type contact binary AB And for 10 nights from November 1995 to December 1999 using the 61-cm reflector and BVR filters at Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory. From our observations, the seasonal light curves of AB And for 1995, 1996 and 1999 were completed and 8 new times of minimum light were determined. Newly obtained light curves show that strong light variations occurred in AB And during the past five years. We adopted the 1996 light curves as reference ones and obtained the photometric solutions of them with contact mode in the Wilson-Devinney binary code. Assuming such light variations were produced by the existence of a star spot (or star spots) in the analysis, we derived the system parameters and analyzed the 1995 and 1999 light curves by adjusting only the spot parameters. As the results, we interpreted that those light variations are produced by the simultaneous existence of a hot spot and a cool spot on the secondary. We could infer that the hot spot on the secondary is produced due to mass exchange between the components suggested by Lee (1999).
We performed CCD photometric observations of the eclipsing binary Y Cam with a pulsating component, for 16 nights from November 2000 to May 2001 using a V filter attached to the 61-cm reflector at Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory. Our V light curve and Broglia & Marin's (1974) BV ones were analyzed with Mode 2 for a detached Roche model as well as Model 5 for a semi-detached one in the Wilson-Devinney code. From the analysis, we found the following results: 1) It is hardly discernible from only light curve synthesis which model between the detached and semi-detached ones is a real Roche model of Y Cam. 2) There exist the third light of about 2% and 3% in B and V light curves of Y Cam, respectively. 3) The light curve solution is immune from the light variation due to the pulsation of the primary component of Y cam. However, the detached model rather than the semi-detached one has slightly better fitted to the observations which were get rid of the pulsation effect. 4) The absolute dimensions of Y Cam were calculated for two Roche models.

The gas response to a proposed spiral stellar pattern for our Galaxy is presented here as calculated via 2D hydrodynamic calculations utilizing the ZEUS code in the disk plane. The locus is that found by Drimmel (2000) from emission profiles in the K band and at 240 ${\mu}m$. The self-consistency of the stellar spiral pattern was studied in previous work (see Martos et al. 2004). It is a sensitive function of the pattern rotation speed, $\Omega$p, among other parameters which include the mass in the spiral and its pitch angle. Here we further discuss the complex gaseous response found there for plausible values of $\Omega$p in our Galaxy, and argue that its value must be close to $20 km s^{-l}\;kpc^{-1}$ from the strong self-consistency criterion and other recent, independent studies which depend on such parameter. However, other values of $\Omega$p that have been used in the literature are explored to study the gas response to the stellar (K band) 2-armed pattern. For our best fit values, the gaseous response to the 2-armed pattern displayed in the K band is a four-armed pattern with complex features in the interarm regions. This response resembles the optical arms observed in the Milky Way and other galaxies with the smooth underlying two-armed pattern of the old stellar disk populations in our interpretation. The complex gaseous response appears to be related to resonances in stellar orbits. Among them, the 4:1 resonance is paramount for the axisymmetric Galactic model employed, and the set of parameters explored. In the regime seemingly proper to our Galaxy, the spiral forcing appears to be marginally strong in the sense that the 4:1 resonance terminates the stellar pattern, despite its relatively low amplitude. In current work underway, the response for low values of $\Omega$p tends to remove most of the rich structure found for the optimal self-consistent model and the gaseous pattern is ring-like. For higher values than the optimal, more features and a multi-arm structure appears.
As the waveguide width and the radius of curvature get smaller for the effort of monolithic fabrication of integrated photonic devices, the waveguide characteristics change significantly according to the change of the waveguide width or the radius of curvature. Especially, variation of the waveguide width due to fabrication process errors induces a phase error for each waveguide from the change of the propagation constant. Therefore, it is important to quantify these variation effects on the device characteristics for the design and fabrication of highly integrated photonic devices. Here, we analyze four different types of waveguides to get general characteristics in propagation constant change by utilizing the effective index method and the analytic solution method. Futhermore, the output characteristics of two AWG(Arrayed Waveguide Grating) devices are simulated by a highly-functional computer code. The simulated results have been found to be similar to the realistic device characteristics. The required fabrication error limit for the ridge-type InP-AWG device should be smaller than 0.02 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to get better channel crosstalk than-25 dB, while the required fabrication error limit for rib-type silica-AWG devices may be allowed up to 0.1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to obtain better crosstalk than -30 dB.

According to the Korea Food Additives Code, sodium metasilicate is permitted for use as a filtering agent for edible oils and fats. Sodium metasilicate is currently used as a food additives to increase the weight of shark fins. In this study, we developed an analytical method to quantify sodium metasilicate in food. Sodium metasilicate content was estimated by measuring the moisture content, pH and silicon content of shark fins. Silicon content was analyzed using inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) following microwave-assisted digestion with $HNO_3$ (65%) and $H_2O_2$ (30%). Shark fin total silicon content was $7.17{\pm}8.92mg/kg$, while the soluble silicon content was $2.34{\pm}3.80mg/kg$. After soaking raw shark fin in an aqueous solution of sodium metasilicate, fin weight, pH and silicon content were measured. These results would be used as the basic information for shark fins safety management.
In this study, when the carbon fiber composite was manufactured, the correlation between the porosity and mechanical properties according to the number of glass fiber felts laminated together and the stacking sequence was confirmed. The carbon fiber composite was manufactured by stacking glass fiber felts, which are highly permeable materials, and using vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM). Porosity was measured by photographing the cross-section of the specimen with an optical microscope and then using porosity calculation code of MATLAB, and mechanical properties were measured for tensile strength, modulus by tensile test. Furthermore, Pearson correlation coefficient between porosity and mechanical properties was calculated to confirm the correlation between two variables. As a result, the number of glass fiber felt increased and the distance from the center of laminated composites increased, the porosity increasing were confirmed. In addition, tensile strength/modulus showed a weak positive correlation with porosity. Also, in order to confirm the effect of only porosity on tensile strength and modulus, mechanical properties calculated by CLPT (Classical Laminate Plate Theory) and experimental values were compared, and the difference in tensile strength showed a strong positive correlation with porosity and the difference in modulus showed a weak positive correlation with porosity.
