  • Bipedal robots tend to have greater mobility than conventional treaded or wheeled robots yet they are commonly complicated by instabilities in balance. This paper presents a bipedal robot based upon Jansen's locomotive mechanism which addresses these challenges in stability and efficiency. In order to achieve a functioning robot, we considered a multitude of variables in its motion including, the Ground Score, Drag Score, step size, foot lift, stride, and instantaneous speed of the Jansen mechanism. Matlab and Jansen Opt solver were used to optimize the legs of the robot. A trial and error experimental method was used to determine the best combination of link lengths, and m.Sketch was used to model our results. Finally, we drew the entirety of the robot's figure by using the Edison design.

  • Measurement of the nonlinear optical coefficients is not an easy task since it requires complicated experimental setup and analysis. We suggest an easy way to estimate the relative nonlinear optical tensor components by direct measurement of the output powers of the second harmonic generation and spontaneous parametric down conversion experiments. The experiments were done in quasi-phase-matched type-0 as well as type-1 interactions at similar pump wavelengths in a 5% MgO-doped periodically poled $LiNbO_3$ crystal to obtain the ratio of the nonlinear optical tensor components $d_{33}/d_{31}$ in each experiment. The obtained ratios were then compared with the previously ascertained values [J. Opt. Soc. Am. B, 14, 2268-2294 (1997)].

  • Lack of sufficient battery capacity is one of the most important challenges impeding the development of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Recent innovations in the areas of wireless energy transfer and rechargeable batteries have made it possible to advance WSNs. Therefore, in this article, we propose an energy-efficient charging of sensors in a WSN scenario. First, we have formulated the problem as an integer linear programming (ILP) problem. Then a utility function-based greedy algorithm named UGreedy/UF1 is proposed for solving the problem. Finally, the performance of UGreedy/UF1 is analyzed along with other baseline algorithms: UGreedy/UF2, 2-opt TSP, and Greedy TSP. The simulation results show that UGreedy/UF1 performs better than others both in terms of the deadline missing ratio of sensors and the total energy consumption of UAVs.

  • Worst-case state estimation will be proposed in this paper. By using the worst-case disturbance and worst-case state estimation, we can obtain right/left constrained coprime factors. If constrained coprime factors are used in designing a controller, the infinity-norm of closed-loop transfer matrix can be smaller than any constant .gamma.(> .gamma.$_{opt}$) without matrix dilation optimization. The derivation of left/right constrained coprime factors is achieved by doubly coprime factorization for the plant constrained by the infinity norm. And the parameterization of stabilizing controllers gives us easily understanding for H$_{\infty}$ control theory.ry.

  • An optimizer has been applied for the optimal design of pipe diameters in the pipe flow network problems. Pipe network flow analysis, which is developed separately, is performed within the interface for the optimization algorithm. A pipe network is chosen for the test, and optimizer GenOpt is applied with Holder-Mead-O'Niell's simplex algorithm after solving the network flow problem by the Newton-Raphson method. As a result, optimally do-signed pipe diameters are successfully obtained which minimize the total design cost. Design cost of pipe flow network can be considered as the sum of pipe installation cost and pump operation cost. In this study, a practical and efficient solution method for the pipe network optimization is presented. Test system is solved for the demonstration of the present optimization technique.

  • Along with the significance of information systems in today s global business operation, the significance of information systems control and audit is ever increasing in the effort to secure accuracy and integrity of vital business data. A study is undertaken to integrate Food and Drug Administration computerized systems validation regulations. Securities & Exchange Commission Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 200 and other significant regulations, and lastly, People Capability Maturity Model into one comprehensive information system validation model. The initial benefits to this comprehensive model are convenience, time-saving, and synchronization of the regulations. An organization that is striving for a high level of quality system in its essential operating areas of organization may opt for this model. After the complete development of the model, a field test would be scheduled to test its efficacy and validity.

  • Most gasoline engines employ a port injection system to achieve the better fuel-air mixing. A part of injected fuels adheres to the wall or intake valve and forms a film of liquid fuel. The other is secondarily atomized by the spray-wall interaction. A better understanding of this interaction will help in designing injection systems and controlling the strategies to improve engine performance and exhaust emissions. In the present research, the spray-wall interaction was investigated by a laser sheet visualization method. The shape of sprays was pictured at various impinging velocities and angles. The fuel dispersion was estimated by fluorescence light, and the atomization was evaluated by the enlarged images of droplets. The experimental results were compared with model predictions which are based on OPT method. The model has been modified to have the better agreement with the experimental result, and was implemented in the KIVA-II code.

  • Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) which has been well known to solve continuous problems can be applied to discrete combinatorial problems. Several DPSO (Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithms have been proposed to solve discrete problems such as traveling salesman, vehicle routing, and flow shop scheduling problems. They are different in representation of position and velocity vectors, operation mechanisms for updating vectors. In this paper, the performance of 5 DPSOs is analyzed by applying to traditional Traveling Salesman Problems. The experiment shows that DPSOs are comparable or superior to a genetic algorithm (GA). Also, hybrid PSO combined with local optimization (i.e., 2-OPT) provides much improved solutions. Since DPSO requires more computation time compared with GA, however, the performance of hybrid DPSO is not better than hybrid GA.

  • In this study, a genetic algorithm was utilized to optimize the stacking sequence of a composite plate subjected to a high velocity impact. The aim is to minimize the maximum backplane displacement of the plate. In the finite element model, we idealized the impactor using solid elements and modeled the composite plate by shell elements to reduce the analysis time. Various tests were carried out to investigate the effect of parameters in the genetic algorithm such as the type of variables, population size, number of discrete variables, and mutation probability.

  • Recently the usage of mobile devices which enable the accessibility to Internet has been dramatically increased. Most of the mobile services, however, so far tend to be simple such as infotainment service. In order to fully taking advantage of wireless network and corresponding technology, personalized web service based on user's context could be needed. Meanwhile, optimization techniques have been vitally incorporated for optimizing the development and administration of electronic commerce. However, applying context-aware optimization mechanism to personalized mobile services is still very few. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to propose a methodology to incorporate optimization techniques into personalization services. Multi agent-based web service approach is considered to realize the methodology. To show the feasibility of the methodology proposed in this paper, a prototype system, CAMA-myOPt(Context-Aware Multi-Agent system for my Optimization), was implemented and adopted in mobile comparative shopping.
