The Evolution of Drone and Air Defense Technologies: Implications for the Future Battlefield

  • The rapid advancement of drone technology has significantly altered the landscape of modern warfare, presenting both opportunities and challenges for military forces worldwide. As drones become increasingly sophisticated, capable of performing complex missions such as reconnaissance, surveillance, and precision strikes, the development of effective air defense systems has become a critical priority. This study examines the current state of drone and air defense technologies, analyzing their impact on military strategies, tactics, and the future battlefield environment. By exploring the patterns of technological evolution, the limitations of existing air defense systems, and the potential consequences of drone proliferation, this research highlights the need for adaptive, innovative approaches to counter emerging threats. The findings underscore the importance of investing in advanced detection and interception capabilities, developing comprehensive counter-drone doctrines, and fostering international cooperation to address the ethical and legal challenges posed by the military use of drones. As the competition between drone and air defense technologies continues to intensify, policymakers and military leaders must proactively engage in shaping the future of warfare to ensure national security and stability in an increasingly complex world.

A Study on the Application of Industry 5.0 Technologies in Residential Welfare

  • Purpose: This study aims to analyze the application of Industry 5.0 technologies to improve residential welfare, focusing on vulnerable groups such as the elderly and one-person households. Research design, data, and methodology: Through a literature review and SWOT analysis, it examines both the strengths and challenges of these technologies, which include AI, IoT, energy management solutions, and personalized systems. Results: The application of Industry 5.0 technologies in residential welfare offers opportunities for enhanced personalization, energy efficiency, and security, especially for vulnerable groups like the elderly and one-person households. However, challenges such as high costs, data privacy, infrastructure limitations, and technological inequality must be addressed to ensure equitable access and widespread adoption. Conclusions: The research identifies key areas for improvement, including data privacy, infrastructure limitations, and the need for equitable access to advanced housing solutions. By addressing these areas, the adoption of Industry 5.0 technologies can help create a more resilient, inclusive, and efficient residential welfare system for future generations.

  • Cancers are significant contributors to the mortality and health care expenditures. Cancer can be reduced and monitored by new information technology. Radio frequency identification or RFID is a wireless identification technology. The use of this technology can be employed for identifying and tracking clinical staff, patients, supplies, medications and equipments. RFID can trace and manage chemotherapy drugs. There are different types of RFID. Implantable RFID allowing a chip to be embedded under the skin and that store the cancer patient's identifier. These are concerns about applications of RFID. Privacy, security and legal issues are key problems. This paper describes capabilities, benefits and confidentiality aspects in radio frequency identification systems and solutions for overcoming challenges.

Challenges and Opportunities for Handicraft Traders as East Meets West at Open Air Markets in Nairobi, Kenya

  • East and West meet in Kenya as tourists to enjoy the climate, hospitality and tourist attractions. Handicraft traders target tourists from the East and the West to buy handicrafts. This research was carried out among textile handicraft traders in open air markets in Nairobi, Kenya to find out their product range, customer base and issues affecting their businesses. The study found that only 25% of the handicraft traders exported abroad. Most of the traders would like to and would benefit more from export trade; however they face challenges in doing so. Handicraft traders are constrained in exporting their products to the East and West because of insufficient information, inadequate capital and lack of contacts in the export location.

Customer Service Evaluation based on Online Text Analytics: Sentiment Analysis and Structural Topic Modeling

  • Purpose Social media such as social network services, online forums, and customer reviews have produced a plethora amount of information online. Yet, the information deluge has created both opportunities and challenges at the same time. This research particularly focuses on the challenges in order to discover and track the service defects over time derived by mining publicly available online customer reviews. Design/methodology/approach Synthesizing the streams of research from text analytics, we apply two stages of methods of sentiment analysis and structural topic model incorporating meta-information buried in review texts into the topics. Findings As a result, our study reveals that the research framework effectively leverages textual information to detect, prioritize, and categorize service defects by considering the moving trend over time. Our approach also highlights several implications theoretically and practically of how methods in computational linguistics can offer enriched insights by leveraging the online medium.

  • Governments around the world place great hopes in innovation in their search for new sources of growth and for responses to grand challenges, such as climate change, new or re-emerging infectious diseases, accelerating urbanisation, ageing, food security, and availability of clean water. However they must devise their relevant support policies -- including through sponsored research within public research institutes -- taking into account that innovation processes are currently undergoing a major transformation. New innovation patterns include a broadening scope of relevant activities, a growing importance but changing nature of scientific roots of technological development, a stronger demand-pull, the emergence of new local and national STI powerhouses, and the rise of more open and globalised innovation networks. They translate into new opportunities but also constraints for policies to enhance the contribution of public research institutes to national innovation performance. The article derives the main policy implications regarding the desirable evolution of the mission, research focus, as well as the funding and steering of public research institutes, with a special reference to Korea.

  • In this paper, we analyses of Architecture for High-speed authentication protocol in wireless communication. The rapid process in wireless communication systems, personal communications, and smartcard technologies has brought new opportunities and challenges to be met by engineers and researchers working on the security aspects of the new communication. In real world, we have restricted hardware environments with limited computational power and small memory, we meet more challenges. Then we analyes the need of consideration to implement the system.

  • International virtual teamwork offers new opportunities for the professional development of teachers. In this paper, we examine the initial experiences in an ongoing international virtual benchmarking project coordinated by the Finnish Online University of Applied Sciences. What challenges does an international context present for project construction and collaboration? Data from five countries, in the form of participant reflections and researchers' observations, were analysed according to four types of barriers: language, time, technical and mental barriers. Initial data indicates that trust is an essential starting point, as there is neither time nor possibilities to build mutual trust by traditional means. Organisational confidentiality issues, however, can complicate the situation. The project introduces 'collision' as a method of professional development, in which physical and organisational borders are crossed and the skills and competencies needed in global learning environments are acquired.

  • Marine biosphere is the largest one of the earth and harbors an enormous number of different organisms. Living conditions differ fundamentally from those in terrestrial environment. The production of specific secondary metabolites is an important adaption mechanism of marine organisms to survive in the sea. These metabolites possess biological activities which make them interesting as possible drugs for human. The review presents sources, chemistry, production and pharmacology of FDA approved marine derived pharmaceuticals arranged according to their therapeutic indication. Four of the presently seven approved drugs are used for the treatment of cancer. Each another one is applicated for treatment of viral diseases, chronic pain and to lower triglyceride level in blood. Some other products are of interest in diagnostic and as experimental tools. Besides, this article describes challenges in drug development from marine sources, especially the supply problem.

  • Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) have been gaining a special attention in the U.S. recently because it is capable of getting aerial footages conveniently and cost effectively, but also because of its potential threat to the safety of our society. Regarding the benefits, one can easily find successful cases. For example, remote controlled or pre-programmed unmanned aircraft help ranch owners monitor their livestocks or crop harvesting status cost-effectively without having to hire human pilots. The professionals in the construction industry also acknowledge the benefits they could gain from using SUAS. Some firms already use a small unmanned aircraft for monitoring their construction activities, which may help project managers figure out construction progress, resolve disputes in real time, and make proactive decisions for quality control. However, there are many technical challenges that my hinder the use of small unmanned aircraft in the construction industry. This paper explores opportunities and challenges in using unmanned aircraft to monitor concrete cracks on the surface of containment building in the nuclear power plant.
