  • For this study, Clinical evaluation of the diverse Autorefractors was performed to examine validity and repeatability compared with subjective refraction. Measurements of refractive error were performed on 212 eyes of 106 subjects subjectivly noncycloplegic. Intersession repeatability of the Autorefractors were also assessed on all 106 subjects together with intersession repeatability on 7 to 14 days intervals. Spherical powers of subjective refraction and autorefractions by Autorefractors were analyzed by paired T-test.

  • Color Doppler imaging (CDI) was carried out to evaluate the anesthetics effect on ophthalmic circulation using CDI-derived resistive index (RI) values. CDI was preformed on 24 dogs, and RI values were calculated for the medial long posterior ciliary artery (mLPCA) and ophthalmic artery (OA) before and after administration of anesthetics. After administration of benoxinate or acepromazine, a significant change of the mLPCA RI was not found. But, a significant decrease of the RI following ketamine (p < 0.001) or xylazine (p < 0.01) administration could be observed as compared with the self-control. Mean RI value of OA also showed this same trend. Intraocular pressure was significantly decrease following benoxinate (p < 0.01), acepromazine (p < 0.01), and xylazine (p < 0.001) administration within normal range. The results suggest that some anesthetics influence on ophthalmic vascular resistance. Therefore, chemical restraint was carefully used in clinical application of CDI-derived RI measurement. Particularly, benoxinate and acepromazine is useful chemical restraint without a change of the ophthalmic vascular resistance.

  • We have studied on the accommodation of people for 10~60ages at Honam residents and compared with the already known accommodation from age. Using Push-up method, we obtained results that average accommodation of each cases were 10ages 9.88D, 20ages 8.65D, 30ages 6.92D, 40ages 5.05D, 50ages 4.29D, 60ages 4.63D. Accommodation was on the decreased in increasing the ages but showed the very high accommodation in 50, 60ages on this study. We judged we should consider a accommodation research of other districts and near addition test.

  • The purpose of this study is synthesizing silicone polymer which is used the material of contact lens and solving the problems of water content and light transmittance for gas permeable contact lens. We used NVP, MMA, HEMA monomer for polymerization and EGDMA as cross linking regent. Also, we polymerized with a several formulation arrangement for the best condition as contact lens. After that. we measured water content and light transmittance by each sample which was polymerized. We polymerized the silicone polymer which is simultaneously pursued by the transparent and water content of the material and measured their physical nature of each sample on this study.

  • Purpose : To define the distribution of normal corneal topographic patterns of Korean college students and compare them with previously published western data, Bogan et al's study. Methods : Computerized corneal topography was performed 220eyes normal subjects using CTK-922(Topography, swiss made). Mean age of the subjects was 23.2 yr.(range 19 to 57 yr.). The color-coded videokeratographs were classified by a masked observer according to the Bogan et al's classification such as round, oval, symmetric bow tie, asymmetric bow tie, and irregular. Results: The results revealed 57 eyes(25.9%) had round, 14 (6.4%) oval , 41(18.6%)symmetric bow tie, 78(35.5%) asymmetric bow tie, and 30(13.6%) irregular pattern. Conclusions : Our results of topographic patterns show the tendency of more irregular and less round topographic pattern in Korean college students, as compared to that of western adults.

  • In this study, we presented a research about the development of the phoropter simulation program for education using the 3-D virtual reality in order to study the ophthalmic optics rather efficiently. Especially, by putting the facility such as the refractive error analysis of the eyeball in the cyber tutor inside, we have made the learner to learn and confirm the present situation of refractive correction through refractive power of principal meridians. By organizing the system which induces the active involvement of the learner and showing the result of the execution to the learner intuitively, the implementation of the more efficient education-environment can be possible. Consequently, it is expected that this program will be greatly helpful for the optician training as well as the ophthalmic optics education. As a next phase of study, we will develope the development technique of this simulator more and extend the cyber tutor contents more and make the web service version of this program to be provided through the internet network in order to inspire the learning desire of the learner more and more.

  • The Human body is subject to two patterns of senescence, both of which are represented in the eye and vision. This article discusses the anatomical and physiological changes in anterior and posterior segments which occur with age. The areas covered include the globe, lids, tears, conjunctiva, cornea, sclera, anterior chamber angle, iris, lens, choroid, vitreous and retina. A sample of 219 individuals between the ages of 50 and 79 years was tested with case history, slit lamp examination, palpebral fissure, horizontal visible iris diameter(HVID) and pupil size. The palpebral fissure decreases with age while HVID remains constant in all age classes. This study suggests that an understanding of anatomical and physiological changes which occur with age is helpful to all eye clinicians because the aging process affects all of the ocular tissues.

  • Novel polythiol materials of urethane lens series for plastic optical lens were synthesized from polyol materials via thioisouronium of thiourea with c-HCl in refluxing aqueous solution, in which polythiol material was carried out from hydrolysis of thioisouronium by ammonia water. Their structure properties were identified by EA, EI-MS, FT-IR, $^1H\;and\;^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopies and TGA. Their ophthalmic lenses as polythiourethane material were prepared by thermal curing to an injected glass mold using the evenly solutions of diisocyanates series (TDI, XDI, HDI or IPDI) with polythiols. Polythiourethane shows that the strong stretching mode for SH group of polythiol disappeared in FT-IR spectra after thermosetting polymerization. Thermal deformation starting temperature of ophthalmic lenses was determined by TMA. Ophthalmic lenses made from characteristic polythiol and diisocyanate series have transparency, colorless and good impact strength, in which thermal resistance and impact strength of ophthalmic lenses were influenced by diisocyanate series. Physical properties of ophthalmic lens have contrast thermal resistance with impact strength. The property of thermal resistance and impact strength for respective ophthalmic lenses was examined by TMA and drop ball test.

  • Purpose: This research measured the near addition powers of presbyopia in wearing the near spectacle for the first time. Methods: We evaluated age, sex, working group, spherical power and cylindrical power and measured the power of refractive error performed the both eyes (310 eyes) of 155 subjects subjectively noncycloplegic and power of addition using the cross cylinder method. Results: There were measured the near addition powers in the range of +0.75D ~ +1.75D. In case of the average addition, they were measured with +1.06D in subjects under 43 years of age, +1.08D in 44 to 46 years, +1.23D in 47 to 49 years and +1.46D in over 50 years of age. The average age in subjects was 47.6 years old and 74 male, 81 female, 71 near sighted working group and 83 far sighted working group. Conclusions: Near addition was correlated with age, working group and cylindrical power (P<0.05, P<0.05, P<0.05).
