Purpose: Most enterprises adopt six sigma acts to maximize the business performance with raising the executiveness for the project improvements in each parts. But there are little studies about six sigma actual operations in manufacturing whether the six sigma improvements that have injected a lot of budget, efforts, labours and time are run properly. Methods: This study select 31 interviewees who have MBB or BB from 5 large enterprises running six sigma over 10 years and 5 SMEs running six sigma over 5 years to understand and review the operational status of six sigma actions in manufacturing industry and to secure representativeness. This study identify the operational status of six sigma actions and key factors enhancing or impeding execution of six sigma projects through face-to-face interviews and online surveys by e-mail. Results: This study figured out the operational status of six sigma actions and key factors enhancing or impeding execution of six sigma projects. We used SPSS 16.0 for the reliability and the validity of survey data. Conclusion: There can be a lot of different factors that affect six sigma project improvements besides the key factors from this study. More study need to think of the organization characteristics and the basic conditions and to remedy the unreasonable points and defects rather than following foreign companies and enterprises.

This technical note introduces the new Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) Global Seasonal forecasting system version 6 (GloSea6) to provide a reference for future scientific works on GloSea6. We describe the main areas of progress and improvements to the current GloSea5 in the scientific and technical aspects of all the GloSea6 components - atmosphere, land, ocean, and sea-ice models. Also, the operational architectures of GloSea6 installed on the new KMA supercomputer are presented. It includes (1) pre-processes for atmospheric and ocean initial conditions with the quasi-real-time land surface initialization system, (2) the configurations for model runs to produce sets of forecasts and hindcasts, (3) the ensemble statistical prediction system, and (4) the verification system. The changes of operational frameworks and computing systems are also reported, including Rose/Cylc - a new framework equipped with suite configurations and workflows for operationally managing and running Glosea6. In addition, we conduct the first-ever run with GloSea6 and evaluate the potential of GloSea6 compared to GloSea5 in terms of verification against reanalysis and observations, using a one-month case of June 2020. The GloSea6 yields improvements in model performance for some variables in some regions; for example, the root mean squared error of 500 hPa geopotential height over the tropics is reduced by about 52%. These experimental results show that GloSea6 is a promising system for improved seasonal forecasts.
It is necessary to reduce aviation GHG(CO2) emission to ensure aviation sustainable development. Operational improvements may not contribute significantly to carbon reduction but it can sustatially reduce emission in a short term. ICAO has developed GANP and ASBU to optimize operations and countries are making efforts to expand infrastructure and develop technology. The legal barriers to operational improvement are based on the notion of state sovereignty under the Chicago Convention which allows countries to control inefficiencies based on borders or limit or prohibit the passage of aircraft. Chicago Convention does not grant unlimited freedom of air sovereignty and if the concept of state sovereignty is interpreted according to the times it is possible to achieve smooth operational improvement.

Background: Safety management is required to ensure health and safety of personnel in Norwegian fish farming. However, few studies have addressed the status and practical relevance of this risk-reducing measure. Methods: This article provides new knowledge through interviews with 35 employees at different company levels, addressing perceptions of various safety management activities according to managers and operational personnel. Results: The interviews show that managers and operational personnel at fish farms agree that the quantity of measures aimed to improve safety has increased in recent years. However, some activities are perceived to have higher practical relevance than others. In general, measures that fit well with the practical reality are well received by the employees at the fish farms. Conclusion: Suggested improvements include involving operational personnel in the design of procedures, considering all risk dimensions that may affect occupational health and safety, and challenging the value of specific safety activities based on a detailed knowledge of the distinctive characteristics of work practice in fish farming.
The purpose of this study is to develop an operation manual of resident-driven community program by evaluating community program operation to realize a sustainable apartment complex and vitalize a community. To achieve this purpose, 8 community experts, who are in charge of 42 complexes of 7 autonomous districts among 25 districts in Seoul were interviewed from September 2013 to December 2013. Main results of the study are as follows. 1) Operational problems and improvements are deduced from evaluating operation process of community programs. It is found that smooth cooperation of main operators including a community vitalization association, a resident representative meeting and a control office is the most important. 2) Operation guideline for representative programs are suggested based on analysis of operational characteristics of 3 types of community programs; communication, recycling and environment management, according to program operation elements; material element, programming element, human element and finance element. 3) An operation manual of resident-oriented community program is presented after considering evaluation of operation processes and analysis of 3 types of operational elements of community programs.

Simulation models have been developed to predict the overall behavior of the CANDU plant systems during normal operational transients. For real time simulation purpose, simplified thermal hydraulic models are applied with appropriate system control logics, which include primary heat transport system solver with its component models and secondary side system models. The secondary side models are mainly used to provide boundary conditions for primary system calculation and to accomodate plant power control logics. Also, for the effective use of simulation package, hardware oriented basic simulation network has been established with appropriate graphic display system. Through validation with typical plant power maneuvering cases using proven plant performance analysis computer code, the present simulation package shows reasonable capability in the prediction of the dynamic behavior of plant variables during operational transients of CANDU plant, which means that this simulation tool can be utilized as a basic framework for full scope simulation network through further improvements.
This paper presents a two-stage power-efficient class-AB operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) based on an adaptive biasing circuit suited to low-power dissipation and low-voltage operation. The OTA shows significant improvements in driving capability and power dissipation owing to the novel adaptive biasing circuit. The OTA dissipates only $0.4{\mu}W$ from a supply voltage of ${\pm}0.6V$ and exhibits excellent high driving, which results in a slew rate improvement of more than 250 times that of the conventional class-AB amplifier. The design is fabricated using $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology.

Relatively high carbon-14 emissions, which occurred at PHWR Plant during 1998 and 1999, made the site staff to implement several operational improvements: 1) the frequency and volume of the moderator cover gas purging were reduced through increased $O_2$ additions to the cover gas, 2) the 'old' resin columns were not used during re-start of the reactor from outage, 3) efforts were made to minimize air ingress, 4) the maximum service time of moderator ion-exchange columns were restricted to about 80 days. Through the improvements, the carbon-14 emission from each PHWR reactor returned to the normal levels during the remainder of 1999 and during 2000. We carried out a special surveillance at W-1 and W-3 from September 2001 to August 2002 to properly evaluate ways to optimize the use of moderator ion exchange resins from a C-14 perspective. The surveillance showed that only data that provided an operational marker for deciding when to remove the IX-resin column is an observed increase in the C-14 stack emissions themselves. Also, it is shown that any increase over the rate of 0.4 Ci $month^{-1}$ for two consecutive weeks may be the indication for an ion-exchange resin column change, especially if the IX-resin column has been in service for more than 80 days.
In this paper, the performance improvement for the new KMA's Climate Prediction System (GloSea6), which has been built and tested in 2021, is presented by assessing the bias distribution of basic variables from 24 years of GloSea6 hindcasts. Along with the upgrade from GloSea5 to GloSea6, the performance of GloSea6 can be regarded as notable in many respects: improvements in (i) negative bias of geopotential height over the tropical and mid-latitude troposphere and over polar stratosphere in boreal summer; (ii) cold bias of tropospheric temperature; (iii) underestimation of mid-latitude jets; (iv) dry bias in the lower troposphere; (v) cold tongue bias in the equatorial SST and the warm bias of Southern Ocean, suggesting the potential of improvements to the major climate variability in GloSea6. The warm surface temperature in the northern hemisphere continent in summer is eliminated by using CDF-matched soil-moisture initials. However, the cold bias in high latitude snow-covered area in winter still needs to be improved in the future. The intensification of the westerly winds of the summer Asian monsoon and the weakening of the northwest Pacific high, which are considered to be major errors in the GloSea system, had not been significantly improved. However, both the use of increased number of ensembles and the initial conditions at the closest initial dates reveals possibility to improve these biases. It is also noted that the effect of ensemble expansion mainly contributes to the improvement of annual variability over high latitudes and polar regions.

Studying the major wars of the past seventy years, the most fundamental change is the transition of weapon systems to one of convergence and cutting edge / state of the arts technology. Such transition is creating a need for drastic reforms of the weapon systems development process especially in areas of / in regards to effective utilization of IT, reduction of development period, precise establishing of operational concept and, management of required operational capability(ROC). In particular, establishing an accurate operational concept for a new weapon system and efficient management of ROC based on this operational concept is a prerequisite for a low-cost and high-efficiency weapon systems development and in the end, a successful construction of military forces. This paper examines the current management procedure of the ROC of the Korean military and proposes improvements to the procedure while taking into consideration issues of elicitation, analysis and validation of requirements engineering.
