  • In order to minimize the maintenance cost at local lines, Information & Communication Technology based onboard train control system is being developed. Unlike the central traffic control based fixed block system, this system use a moving block method and railway driver direct control switch and railway crossing. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the concerned main operational issues are as follows: the preparation of train operation, drivability, the role of driver and controller, block system and cost. We defined the role of driver and driver's input data for train service, and we designed the business process of driver using UML tool. We considered the aspect of drivability, DMI is needed to support the braking moment for the driver and driver training simulator. We designed the driver business process for control of switch and railway crossing. We analyzed the fixed block system and moving block system to confirm the difference with the existing operational method. The cost analysis structure is also needed for the operation cost comparison.

  • This study reports on the development and performance verification of cell simulation boards of simulator and the embedded program for board control of the battery management system (BMS) of electric vehicle (EV) cars, which manages the next-generation automotive lithium-ion battery pack. Here, we have improved the speed of the simulator by using operational (OP) amplifier and transistors that were connected in series. In addition, using a digital analog converter (DAC) in each channel, we have improved the performance by channel-to-channel isolation (isolation) as compared to the traditional methods. Furthermore, by constructing a current-limiting protection circuit, one can be protected from disturbance and, by utilizing a precision shunt resistor for the current sensor, we have increased the precision of the current control. In order to verify the performance of the developed simulator, we have performed the experiment 10 times, with values ranging from 0.5 V to 5 V, and a voltage drop step of 0.5 V. Significance analysis of experimental data, and repeatability tests were performed, showing an average standard deviation of 0.001~0.004 V, indicating high repeatability and high statistical significance of the current method and system.

  • This paper deals with a power-hardware-in-the loop simulation (PHILS) of permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) type wind power generation system (WPGS) using a real hardware which consists of a motor generator set with motor drive, real time digital simulator (RTDS), and back-to-back converter. A digital signal processor (DSP) controls the back-to-back converter connected between the back-to-back converter and the RTDS. The proposed PHILS can effectively be applied to demonstrate the operational characteristics of PMSG type WPGS under grid connection.

  • Mine countermeasure missions(MCMs) may induce the loss of human and ship because of the covert of mine. In recent years, unmanned underwater vehicles(UUVs) have emerged as viable technical solution for conductimg underwater search, surveillance, and clearance operations in support of mine countermeasure missions because of her autonomy and long time endurance capability. This paper introduces a technical approach to mine countermeasure mission effectiveness analysis and presents some simulation-based analysis results for engineering of the UUV system definition which could be support analysis of alternatives for system definition and design.

  • As a part of development of Korean K2 main battle tank, embedded training computer to be operated in the main equipment, which makes it possible to train without a special-purposed training simulator, was adopted for tank combat training. The category of embedded training of Korean K2 main battle tank includes driving training, gunnery training, single tank combat training, platoon level combat training, and command and platoon leaders combat training. For realization unit level tank embedded training system, the virtual reality was utilized for real time image rendering, and network based real time communication system of K2 tank was utilized for sharing status information between tanks. As a result, it is possible to train themselves on their own tank for enhancing the operational skills and harmonized task with members.

  • The motion responses of a 5-MW floating offshore wind turbine were simulated in regular and irregular waves and its RAOs and significant motion responses were calculated, respectively. The floating offshore wind turbine employed in this simulation was the OC3-Hywind designed by the National Renewable Research Laboratory, USA. The numerical simulation was carried out using MOSES (Multi-Operational Structural Engineering Simulator), which is widely used to analyze and design floating offshore structures in the gas and oil industry.

  • This paper proposes a novel chaos generator using the model of Josephson junction. Constructing an equivalent circuit of Josephson element by using an operational amplifier, we have made a chaos generator. The feature of this generator is to generate several kinds of oscillations as well as chaotic oscillations by only changing a DC bias current to the junction. In this paper, it is described in detail how to construct the circuit and what kind of oscillations is realized in the circuit. The experimental results of oscillation modes are compared with simulation results with a satisfactory agreement.

  • In this work, a scalable algorithm for model calibration in nuclear engineering applications is presented and tested. The algorithm relies on the construction of surrogate models to replace the original model within the region of interest. These surrogate models can be constructed efficiently via reduced order modeling and subspace analysis. Once constructed, these surrogate models can be used to perform computationally expensive mathematical analyses. This work proposes a surrogate based model calibration algorithm. The proposed algorithm is used to calibrate various neutronics and thermal-hydraulics parameters. The virtual environment for reactor applications-core simulator (VERA-CS) is used to simulate a three-dimensional core depletion problem. The proposed algorithm is then used to construct a reduced order model (a surrogate) which is then used in a Bayesian approach to calibrate the neutronics and thermal-hydraulics parameters. The algorithm is tested and the benefits of data assimilation and calibration are highlighted in an uncertainty quantification study and requantification after the calibration process. Results showed that the proposed algorithm could help to reduce the uncertainty in key reactor attributes based on experimental and operational data.
