  • Purpose: Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS) is known to be one of the most common cause of surgery for infants and pyloromyotomy was considered to the standard treatment. There has been an ongoing debate about whether laparoscopic pyloromyotomy (LP) or open pyloromyotomy (OP) is the best option for treating HPS. The aim of this study is to evaluate safety and effectiveness of LP by comparing the clinical results of both surgical strategies performed by single surgeon. Methods: Between January 2000 and December 2013, 60 patients who underwent pyloromyotomy at Asan Medical Center performed by a surgeon were followed: open-supraumbilical incision (n=36) and LP (n=24). The parameters included sex, age and body weight at operation. Clinical outcomes included operation time, time to full feeding, postoperative hospital stay, and postoperative complications. Results: There were no significant differences in characteristics, postoperative hospital stay between the two groups. Time to full feeding was shorter in LP (OP 24.5 hours vs. LP 19.8 hours; p=0.063). In contrast, the mean operation time was longer in LP (OP 37.5 minutes vs. LP 43.5 minutes; p=0.072). Complications such as perforation of mucosal layer (OP 1 vs. LP 0) and wound problems (OP 2 vs. LP 0) were found to be not worse in laparoscopic group as compared with open group. Conclusion: There has no difference both laparoscopic and open-supraumbilical incision in terms of postoperative hospital stay, time to full feeds and frequency of complications.

  • Many pressure vessels for the hot H$\sub$2//H$\sub$2/S service are made of 2+1/4Cr-1Mo steel with austenitic stainless steel overlay to combat agressive corrosion due to hydrogen sulfide. Hydrogen dissolves in to materials during operation, and sometimes gives rise to unfore-seeable damages. Appropriate precautions must, therefore, be taken to avoid the hydrogen induced damages in the design, fabrication and operation stage of such reactor vessels. Recently, hydrogeninduced cracking (or Disbonding) was found at the interface between base metal and stainless weld overlay of a desulfurizing reactor. Since the stainless steel overlay weld metal is subjected to thermal and internal-pressure loads in reactor operation, it is desirable for the overlay weld metal to have high strength and ductility from the stand point of structural safety. In section III of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Post-Weld Heat Treatment(PWHT) of more than one hour per inch at over 1100.deg. F(593.deg. C) is required for the weld joints of low alloy pressure vessel steels. This heat treatment to relieve stresses in the welded joint during construction of the pressure vessel is considered to cause sensitization of the overlay weld metal. The present study was carried out to make clear the diffusion of carbon migration by PWHT in dissimilar metal welded joint. The main conclusion reached from this study are as follows: 1) The theoretical analysis for diffusion of carbon in stainless steel overlay weld metal does not agree with Fick's 2nd law but the general law of molecular diffusion phenomenon by thermodynamic chemical potential. 2) In the stainless steel overlay welded joint, the PWHT at 720.deg. C for 10 hours causes a diffusion of carbon atoms from ferritic steel into austenitic steel according to the theoretical analysis for carbon migration and its experiment. 3) In case of PWHT at 720.deg. C for 10 hours, the micro-hardness of stainless steel weld metal in bonded zone increase very highly in the carburized layer with remarkable hardening than that of weld metal.

  • A benthic microbial fuel cells(BMFC) is fuel cell using electricity produced by decomposing organic matter in a sea or a lake. In this study, we used a gas diffusion layer (GDL) of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEMFC) as a BMFC electrode to find out the operation conditions with high performance. The performance of BMFC was increased as resistance of external resistor increased. It was possible to maintain the performance by avoiding the increase of the contact resistance with the electrode due to corrosion of the lead wire in seawater. The bubble generator was able to increase the maximum power density by more than 2 times and the optimum operating temperature was $40^{\circ}C$.

  • In this paper, we modeled the devices used easily in PV system circuits. In addition, for full operation of the photovoltaic system, a complete operation system for the DC-DC buck-boost converter and the MPPT control system was modeled and simulated to confirm good operation. we were constructed an actual system with the same conditions in the simulation and experimented. The purpose is to confirm the stable power supply through the load leveling by presenting the PCS considering ESS of photovoltaic power generation. we will do study to apply hybrid capacitors that have high energy density to the same size compared to the EDLC to DVR. As a result, we proposed a single-phase 3 kW grid-connected solar power converter.

  • The construction of Internet IP-based Network is composed of router and switch models in a variety of companies. The construction by various models causes the complexity of the management and control as different types of CLI is used by different company to filter out abnormal traffics like worm, virus, and DDoS. To improve this situation, IETF is working on enacting XML based configuration standards from NETCONF working group, but currently few commands processing at the level of operation layer on NETCONF are only standardized and it's hard for unified control operation process between different make of system as different company has different XML command to filter out abnormal traffics. This thesis proposes ways to prevent abnormal attacks and increase efficiency of network by re-routing the abnormal traffics coming thru unified control for different make of systems into Sinkhole router and designing a control system to efficiently prevent various attacks after checking the possibility of including abnormal traffics from unified control operation.

  • Existing side-channel analysis studies have mostly been analyzed only on block ciphers without considering the operation mode. However, establishing a methodology of side-channel analysis on operation mode is necessary because information for performing analysis varies depending on that. This paper proposes a methodology of correlation power analysis (CPA) on an operation mode CBC in a software target. The first round SubBytes layer output is generally used as a sensitive hypothetical intermediate value of an encryption algorithm AES (advanced encryption standard); however, the adversary should acquire the plaintext and ciphertext to calculate the input of AES in CBC mode. We propose an intermediate value calculated only by ciphertext. Besides, the initial vector (IV) could be treated as closed information in practice, although it is theoretically not secret. The adversary cannot decrypt the first block of plaintext without IV even if he analyzes the secret key. We propose a deep learning-based IV analysis method in a non-profiled environment.

  • This paper reports on our investigation of DC and RF characteristics of p-channel metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (pMOSFETs) with a compressively strained $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$ channel. Because of enhanced hole mobility in the $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$ buried layer, the $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$ pMOSFET showed improved DC and RF characteristics. We demonstrate that the 1/f noise in the $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$ pMOSFET was much lower than that in the all-Si counterpart, regardless of gate-oxide degradation by electrical stress. These results suggest that the $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$ pMOSFET is suitable for RF applications that require high speed and low 1/f noise.

  • Monolayers such as self-assembled monolayer (SAM) have received considerable attention to reduce stiction and friction in micro-devices and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). Various organic molecular films were investigated to obtain better understanding of their tribological behaviors and adhesion property. The organic molecular films studied in this work are: epoxysilane SAMs, octadecyltricholosilane (OST), multi-layers composed of epoxysilane SAMs, poly[styrene-b-(ethylene-co-butylene)-b-styrene](SEBS) and compound of epoxy resin and poly (paraphenylene)(EP/PPP). The pull-off forces of these films were also obtained from force-distance curves measured in static mode of operation of atomic force microscope(AFM). Tribological tests were conducted with a ball-on-flat reciprocating friction tester. The OST showed the lowest pull-off force, indicating its low adhesion property. It was revealed that, the OST, EP/PPP and the multi-layer of epoxysilane SAMs, SEBS and EP/PPP exhibited good tribological properties at the lower load (0.3 N) whereas the OST showed best performance at the higher load (1.8 N).

  • The societal interest on a faster transportation demands an increase of the train speed over the current operation speed of 350 km/h. However, the dynamic response in the roadbed of concrete track system subjected to the train speed ranging between 300 to 500 km/h has been systematically investigated. Herein, a series of the 2-dimensional numerical simulations using various train speeds were performed. A single wheel was modeled by the rigid body. The rail was attached to the sleepers via linear springs in parallel. The results show that the vertical displacement at the rail and track concrete layer exponentially increases when the train speed increases over 400 km/h. This conclusion implies an existence of the critical train velocity at which the displacement of the track system dramatically increases.
