  • The MIDLOOP code has been developed for the evaluation of RES pressurization transients initiated from a loss-of-Residual Heat Removal System (RHRS) during mid-loop operation after reactor shutdown. It provides a fast running and realistic tool for studying parametrically the response of important plant parameters such as pressure, temperature, and level to various plant combinations of the primary side vent, makeup, and leakage procedures and the steam generator (SG) conditions. The code consists of ten nodes representing the primary and secondary sides of a nuclear power plant and can analyze the effect of air on the primary system pressurization and primary to secondary heat transfer. The analysis results of the MIDLOOP code are in good agreement with the ROSA-IV/LSTF experiment without opening in the RCS.

  • This paper proposes a novel soft-switching interleaved boost converter composed of two shunted elementary PFC boost conversion units and an auxiliary inductor. This converter is able to turn on both the active power switches at zero voltage to reduce their switching losses and evidently raise the conversion efficiency and power factor. Since the two parallel-operated elementary boost units are identical, operation analysis and design for the converter module becomes quite simple. A laboratory test circuit is built, and the circuit operation shows satisfactory agreement with the theoretical analysis. The performance of the proposed PFC rectifier was evaluated on an experimental 300[W] PFC prototype.

  • This paper presents a novel ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna that rejects narrow and broad bands and is suitable for wireless communications. The base of the proposed antenna has a circular patch that can cover the UWB frequency range (3.1~10.6 GHz). The interference issues caused by co-existence within the UWB operation frequency are overcome by a design that uses a parallel-coupled asymmetric dual-line with a circular monopole antenna. The proposed antenna showed a stable radiation pattern, realized gain and reflection coefficient lower than -10 dB across the UWB operation bandwidth except for 5.15~5.85 GHz and 7.25~8.4 GHz. The fabrication, simulation, and measurement results obtained for the proposed antenna were in good agreement with the expected values.

  • The mathematical simulation of tow-dimensional hydrodynamic analysis in the bay was studied. The basic equations of the model consisted of the momentum equations and the continuity equation, and they were analysed by the finite difference method. The Leendertse's multi-operation method was used to solve the equations. For the numerical analysis, the computer program was made to get the velocity distribution was within the range of 10cm/sec and the currents were mainly in the north-south direction, which had a good agreement with the observed data. The methodological procedure made in this paper will provide a basic contribution to hydrodynamic study in the bay.

  • On the base of the fractional Fourier transform(FRT) which is known as a generalized form of the conventional Fourier transform, the fractional correlation has been implemented. Shift-variance property of the fraction correlation has been evaluated and compared with the shift-invariance of the conventional correlation. The fractional correlation operation has been implemented by using a planar optics configuration which integrates all of the optical components on a single glass substrate. A good agreement between the experimental and calculated results has been obtained.

  • In this paper, a novel design for a triple-band coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed monopole antenna for WLAN/WiMAX operations is proposed. The proposed antenna is printed on an FR4 substrate with an area of 22.0 mm × 30.0 mm, a thickness of 1.0 mm, and a relative permittivity of 4.4. The effects of various parameters of the proposed for triple band operation is investigated. Two half circular rings and a microstrip feed line are fabricated on the substrate to achieve triple band operation and good impedance matching. Prototypes of the proposed antenna have been fabricated and tested. Experiment results reveal that the measured return loss exhibits an acceptable agreement with the simulated return loss and satisfies the impedance bandwidth requirement of -10 dB, while simultaneously covering the WLAN and WiMAX bands. In addition, the proposed antenna shows good radiation characteristics and gains in the three operating bands.

  • An ion sensitive field effect transistor employing a special HCI heat treatment for the gate oxide layer along with tungsten metallization and multilayer encapsulation using fumed silica epoxy mixture was fabricated and its performance characteristics have been investigated. A theoretical model for the device operation is discussed, and it is shown that the experimental results are in good agreement with the theory. The fabricated device has excellent performance characteristics showing the fast response, long operation-life, small pH hysteresis, high sensitivity, etc. Especially, its stability has been greatly improved.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new structural AGC(Automatic Gain Control) circuit with extremely short settling time using high speed operation characteristics of a clipper. We investigated its operation characteristics in analysis. We also designed a burst-mode preamplifier for 1.25Gbps EPON systems using commercial foundry and investigated its characteristics by comparing the results of the designed and those of the analyzed. The characteristics of the designed circuit are in good agreement with those of the analyzed. As a result, it is shown that it is possible to realize extremely short settling time of under 1㎱.

  • Optimal operation in chromatography is needed to save operation time and the solvent used in multiple chromatographic runs. To this end, many simulation studies of chromatography process have been performed. The relationship between the distribution coefficient and the ionic strength is important in gradient elution ion chromatography. Experimental runs and computer simulations were carried out under linear gradient elution condition in order to compare the experiments and the simulation. Experiments were performed with formic acid under isocratic conditions to determine the simulation equation parameters. Computer simulation was based on three equations which related distribution with ionic strength as follows; K=${\alpha}$I(sup)-${\beta}$, K=A+BI+Cl$^2$and K=y(sub)0+A$_1$$.$e(sup)(-I/m$_1$). The effects of gradient slope on the chromatograms are discussed, and good agreement between the experimental and the simulated results is shown.

  • A mathematical model was formulated to simulate the long-term performance of an anaerobic bioreactor designed to digest Korean food wastes. The system variables of various decomposition steps were built into the model, which predicts the temporal characters of Solid waste, and volatile fatty acid (VFA) in the reactor, and gas production in response to various input loadings and temperatures. The predicted values of VFA and gas production were found to be in good agreement with experimental observations in batch and repeated-input systems. Finally, long-term reactor performance was simulated with respect to the seasonal temperature changes from 5C in winter to 25C in Summer at different food waste input loadings. The simulation results provided us with information concerning the success or failure of a process during long-term operation .
