This paper presents the operation algorithm of microgrid on the Real Time Pricing(RTP) for building the smart grid. RTP is higher power price variability than flat rate and time of use. However it has an effect on peak clipping and peak load shifting due to the increased price on peak time power demand. When the RTP are applied to the microgrid system, the proposed algorithm is able to be effective and economic operation. The implemented system is operated for the economic operation in microgrid connected with the power system. On the other hand, when the microgrid is operated on isolation mode, it focus on the improvement of stability and the power supply reliability of the sensitive loads. The test system are implemented and calculated on various operation modes based on non-dispachable generator output and RTP data for validating the proposed operation algorithm. The calculated results are compared to the implemented results using real-time simulator. It can be confirmed that the proposed operation system are identical results to the calculated one. When the proposed operation algorithm is applied to the system, it can be show the effectiveness of the peak clipping and peak load shifting and the improvement of economic feasibility.
The purpose of this paper is to develop a knowledge-based real-time decision support system to support decision makers for efficient berth operation of Inchon Port. In these days, the efficient berth operation has been many studied. The berth operation rules differ from port to port and the problem is highly dependent on natural, geographical and operational environment of port. In Inchon Port, the ship's entrance into port and departure from port is extremely affected by the status of dock and berth because of capacity restriction. First, we analyzed the specific characteristics of Inchon Port such as dock based on the data of 1997. And then, we construct the database of experts knowledge for berth utilization. Finally, we build the real-time decision support system for the efficient berth operation of Inchon Port to make the better berth allocation in case of not only regular scheduling but also dynamic scheduling such as delay in berth operation and exchange of ship between berths. The DSS is developed with graphic user interface(GUI) concept to help the user determining user interactive updating of the port status. Then this DSS will be provide decision maker with an efficient and fast way to berth allocation, and reduce wastes of time, space, and manpower in Inchon Port operation.
This paper presents a development of operation scheduling and reactive operation scheduling system for hull fabrication. The methodology for implementing operation scheduling system is HHGA(Hierarchical Hybrid Genetic Algorithm) which exploits both the global perspective of the genetic algorithm and the rapid convergence of the heuristic search for operation scheduling. The methodology for the reactive operation scheduling is the revised HHGA which consists of manual schedule editor for occurrence of exceptional events and the revised scheduling method used in operation scheduling. As the results of experiment, it has been confirmed that HHGA is able to search good operation scheduling within reasonable time, and the revised HHGA is able to search load-balanced reactive operation scheduling with minimum changes of initial operation schedule within short period of time.
Low-temperature drying systems have been extensively used for drying cereal grain such as shelled corn and wheat. Since the 1973 energy crisis, many researches have been conducted to apply solar energy as supplemental heat to natural air drying systems. However, little research on rough rice drying has been done in this area, especially very little in Korea. In designing a solar drying system, quality loss, airflow requirements, temperature rise of drying air, fan power and energy requirements should be throughly studied. The factors affecting solar drying systems are airflow rate, initial moisture content, the amount of heat added to drying air, fan operation method and the weather conditions. The major objectives of this study were to analyze the effects of the performance factors and determine design parameters such as airflow requirements, optimum bed depth, optimum temperature rise of drying air, fan operation method and collector size. Three hourly observations based on the 4-year weather data in Chuncheon area were used to simulate rough rice drying. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. The results of the statistical analysis indicated that the experimental and predicted values of the temperature rise of the air passing through the collector agreed well. 2. Equilibrium moisture content was affected a little by airflow rate, but affected mainly by the amount of heat added, to drying air. Equilibrium moisture content ranged from 12.2 to 13.2 percent wet basis for the continuous fan operation, from 10.4 to 11.7 percent wet basis for the intermittent fan operation respectively, in range of 1. 6 to 5. 9 degrees Centigrade average temperature rise of drying air. 3. Average moisture content when top layer was dried to 15 percent wet basis ranged from 13.1 to 13.9 percent wet basis for the continuous fan operation, from 11.9 to 13.4 percent wet basis for the intermittent fan operation respectively, in the range of 1.6 to 5.9 degrees Centigrade average temperature rise of drying air and 18 to 24 percent wet basis initial moisture content. The results indicated that grain was overdried with the intermittent fan operation in any range of temperature rise of drying air. Therefore, the continuous fan operation is usually more effective than the intermittent fan operation considering the overdrying. 4. For the continuous fan operation, the average temperature rise of drying air may be limited to 2.2 to 3. 3 degrees Centigrade considering safe storage moisture level of 13.5 to 14 perceut wet basis. 5. Required drying time decrease ranged from 40 to 50 percent each time the airflow rate was doubled and from 3.9 to 4.3 percent approximately for each one degrees Centigrade in average temperature rise of drying air regardless of the fan operation methods. Therefore, the average temperature rise of drying air had a little effect on required drying time. 6. Required drying time increase ranged from 18 to 30 percent approximately for each 2 percent increase in initial moisture content regardless of the fan operation methods, in the range of 18 to 24 percent moisture. 7. The intermittent fan operation showed about 36 to 42 percent decrease in required drying time as compared with the continuous fan operation. 8. Drymatter loss decrease ranged from 34 to 46 percent each time the airflow rate was doubled and from 2 to 3 percent approximately for each one degrees Centigrade in average temperature rise of drying air, regardless of the fan operation methods. Therefore, the average temperature rise of drying air had a little effect on drymatter loss. 9. Drymatter loss increase ranged from 50 to 78 percent approximately for each 2 percent increase in initial moisture content, in the range of 18 to 24 percent moisture. 10. The intermittent fan operation: showed about 40 to 50 percent increase in drymatter loss as compared with the continuous fan operation and the increasing rate was higher at high level of initial moisture and average temperature rise. 11. Year-to-year weather conditions had a little effect on required drying time and drymatter loss. 12. The equations for estimating time required to dry top layer to 16 and 1536 wet basis and drymatter loss were derived as functions of the performance factors. by the least square method. 13. Minimum airflow rates based on 0.5 percent drymatter loss were estimated. Minimum airflow rates for the intermittent fan operation were approximately 1.5 to 1.8 times as much as compared with the continuous fan operation, but a few differences among year-to-year. 14. Required fan horsepower and energy for the intermittent fan operation were 3. 7 and 1. 5 times respectively as much as compared with the continuous fan operation. 15. The continuous fan operation may be more effective than the intermittent fan operation considering overdrying, fan horsepower requirements, and energy use. 16. A method for estimating the required collection area of flat-plate solar collector using average temperature rise and airflow rate was presented.

Communication Ocean Meteorological Satellite (COMS) for the hybrid mission of meteorological observation, ocean monitoring, and telecommunication service is planned to be launched onto Geostationary Earth Orbit in 2008 according to the Korea national space program. A feasibility study on the solar constraint in the operation of the COMS meteorological imager (MI) is performed using the GOES imager hardware operation characteristics. The Earth observation areas of the MI are introduced and the observation time of the MI observation area is calculated. The sun light can enter into the MI optical system around the local midnight and impinge on the performance of the MI. The solar eclipse viewed from the satellite occurs near local midnight around the equinox. This study discusses the restriction of imaging operation time that should be considered in order to avoid the solar intrusion about local midnight and to keep acceptable image quality for the MI observation areas. This study could be useful to build the operation concept of the MI during the development of the MI.

Recently the fuzzy control is widely used as a tool for constructing automatic control systems which can replace the manual operation of large-scale nonlinear plants. In most applications of the fuzzy control however it is hard to meet the requirement of the operation time. In some real-time control the fuzzy control scheme requires too much computing time for fuzzification inference and defuzzification. To reduce the computing time there may be two alternatives the development of a new operation algorithm and the design of high-speed fuzzy hardware. In this paper to solve the problem of reducing the fuzzy operation time we propose a new high-speed fuzzy hardware scheme which has merits of its generality and extensibility. Finally we verify the proposed fuzzy hardware.
The grinding operation is an important machining process for machining of final surface. However. grinding process has inevitable troubles such as loading and glazing for grinding wheel. It is, therefore, an essential research theme to determine the wheel life and the dressing timefor efficient grinding. In this study, AE signals (AEavg) generated in thc grinding operation were measured and the dressing time was determined from the analysis of the AEavg value. To verify the propriety of the obtained result. the AE signals measured on the grinding and the dressing operation were compared with the grinding force signals and the dressing force which were measured at same time. From the obtained result, it was confirmed that the determination of the wheel life and the dressing time by the AE measurement technique proposed in this study can be practically used.
NAND flash memory has advantages of non-volatility, little power consumption and fast access time. However, it suffers from inability that does not provide to update-in-place and the erase cycle is limited. Moreover, the unit of read/write operation is a page and the unit of erase operation is a block. Therefore, erase operation is slower than other operations. The AGC, the proposed garbage collection policy focuses on not only garbage collection time reduction for real-time guarantee but also wear-leveling for a flash memory lifetime. In order to achieve above goals, we define three garbage collection operating modes: Fast Mode, Smart Mode, and Wear-leveling Mode. The proposed policy decides the garbage collection mode depending on system CPU usage rate. Fast Mode selects the dirtiest block as victim block to minimize the erase operation time. However, Smart Mode selects the victim block by reflecting the invalid page number and block erase count to minimizing the erase operation time and deviation of block erase count. Wear-leveling Mode operates similar to Smart Mode and it makes groups and relocates the pages which has the similar update time. We implemented the proposed policy and measured the performance compare with the existing policies. Simulation results show that the proposed policy performs better than Cost-benefit policy with the 55% reduction in the operation time. Also, it performs better than Greedy policy with the 87% reduction in the deviation of erase count. Most of all, the proposed policy works adaptively according to the CPU usage rate, and guarantees the real-time performance of the system.
