A study to determine the Design parameters of high speed freight wagon (고속화차용 현가장치 적정 설계변수 선정에 관한 연구)

  • The freight wagon with weld fabricated 1-piece bogies, which was developed to increase operating speed, reveals its difficulties in maintenance. The weld-fabricated bogies were composed of two-stage coil spring and dry friction damping mechanism. The inborn wear parts and rather complicated structure mattes bogie maintenance difficult. In order to relieve this difficulties, the application of maintenance free rubber suspension is proposed by bogie maunfacturer, Taeyang Precision Limited. This study was conducted to determine design parameters of proposed rubber suspension by means of vehicle dynamic simulation and parametric study. The target critical speed of bogie was set over 150km/h for the preparation of further speed-up of freight wagon.

Development of maintenance concept and procedures for KASS (KASS 유지보수 정의 및 절차 개발)

  • KASS (korea augmentation satellite system) is an SBAS (satellite based augmentation system) that must ensure the performance of aviation service in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization's SARPs (standards and recommended practices) Annex 10 - Aeronautical Telecommunications. In order to guarantee the target service performance, the operating system must be operated, maintained and managed stably, and a maintenance system must be established for this purpose. From the maintenance point of view, the KASS subsystems were developed to consist of replacement units, and the maintenance organization and procedures to manage those subsystems and units were defined. In addition, the maintenance task for each the replacement unit was developed to ensure the availability performance required for the successful KASS operation, and the developed tasks were verified to sufficiently cover the activities to maintain the previously defined replacement units. The maintenance tasks developed through this study will be continuously verified in the actual operation preparation process prior to the full-scale provision of aviation services in the end of 2023, and will be updated accordingly.

Investigation on the Reduction Effect on Cooling Power Consumption and Operating Cost of Mist-spray Outdoor Units in Air Conditioner

  • The use of the air conditioner is increasing due to the rise of the outdoor temperature during summer, and the problems of the fire and the cooling performance deterioration are caused due to lack of maintenance of the outdoor unit. In particular, overall performance of cooling system and efficiency in outdoor units have been degraded due to an intake of high-temperature outdoor air thereby increasing cooling energy and operating cost. Thus, this study aimed to increase efficiency of outdoor units by evaporating and cooling intake air through mist spray at the intake port surface in the outdoor unit. The measurements results showed that total power consumption of misting outdoor unit compared to that of conventional outdoor units was reduced by 21% approximately, and total power consumption of the entire system including pump was reduced by 16.7%. In addition, the operating cost including water use was reduced by 13.5% approximately. In summary, if a mist-spray nozzle kit is installed in air-cooled outdoor units, the reduction in the usage of cooling energy and operating cost will be achieved without replacement of existing cooling systems or a large scale of repairs.

The Fouling Characteristics of Plate Heat Exchangers with Geometric and Operating Parameters (판형열교환기의 운전 및 설계변수에 따른 파울링 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The plate heat exchanger has been widely used in water heating systems due to high efficiency, simple structure, and easy maintenance. However, the studies on the effects of fouling on the heat transfer performance under various operation and maintenance conditions are very limited in the open literature. The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of fouling with calcium carbonate ($CaCO_3$) on the heat transfer characteristics of the plate heat exchanger under various operating and geometric conditions. The heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop in the plate heat exchangers were measured under accelerated fouling conditions with $CaCO_3$ by varying geometric and operational parameters. The fouling resistance increased with the decrease in the flow rate, and the increase in the chevron angle and the concentration.

Numerical Analysis of Axial-Flow Cyclone Separator for Subway Station HVAC System Pre-Filter

  • In the Korean subway station, three types of pre-filters, which include auto filter, electrostatic precipitator (ESP) and auto cleaning demister, are widely used. However, these devices have some problems such as the difficulty of maintenance and high operating cost. In this study, axial-flow cyclone separator was employed as a pre-filter inside a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. 3-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was performed on a single unit axial-flow cyclone and coupled unit axial-flow cyclone. Calculated and measured pressure drop of the designed axial-flow cyclone were found be comparable to other types of pre-filters and the observed cut-off diameter was less than 10 micron. Considering lower operating and maintenance cost, axial-flow cyclone was proved to be a better solution as a pre-filter.

Risk Estimation Study on Railway Track Worker Hit by Train (철도 운행선로 작업자와 열차 접촉사고 위험도 평가에 관한 연구)

  • The accident fatality rate has decreased by more than 90% compared to 2006, due to the safety management and safety investment based on the Rail Safety Act. Most railway safety indicators, including fatality rates, have improved significantly from 60% to 80%, reaching the level of developed countries in terms of most railway safety indicators. However, the only staff fatality rate at work is not improved, and it is 3 to 5 times higher than that of developed countries. Most of the fatality occurred during employee's work recently occurred due to accidents hit by train while track work. In principle, when operating track need to check or maintenance, the operation of the train should be stopped and the work carried out. However, in Korea, due to the highest passenger density and train operating density in the world, it is caused by a structural problem that requires workers to enter the track while the train is running and perform various tasks such as maintenance and inspection. In this study, we analyzed the risk of accidents caused by hit by trains on the track, which is the biggest cause of staff fatality, using the main statistics of the last 10 years. In detail, the scenarios of the main causes of hit by trains and workers were formed to suggest the effectiveness of the current preventive measures and supplementary.

  • This paper shows an implementation and management result of wireless networks based security light control system, which performs a great role in protection of pedestrians and prevention of crime. Conventional security light units have severe limits in confirmation and inspection of security light unit failure, like wilful damage by someone or failure by influence of other equipment or failure by spontaneous heat-increase, and so on. In addition, local government offices are responsible for maintenance of security light units and as a matter of fact, most of civil complaints are about security light units. It is an obvious that the existing security light maintenance system reaches the limit and the security light maintenance problem is a difficulty of local government. Therefore, efficient security light control system is needed, which enables central control and intelligent maintenance. Moreover, the system has to be easy to control and has to be stable. In this study, wireless sensor network based security light control system is implemented, which is independent of programming language and platform, and which is simple to control and extend the system. The proven protocols, HTTP and SOAP, are utilized in order to improve the system reliability. This paper shows the excellence of our proposed system by implementing and operating it in real environment.

Evaluation for Operational Efficiency of Road Management Equipment using Analytical Hierarchy Process (계층분석법을 이용한 도로관리장비 운영의 효율성 평가)

  • PURPOSES: Regional offices of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs use a computerized system called KAMIS so as to manage road equipment systematically. Road agencies can record number of operating days by equipment, actual working hours, accumulated operating hours (or distance) by equipment, and operating cost. However, KAMIS does not provide critical information, although it is strongly related to efficient road management equipment operation. In other words, road agencies do not know whether they have sufficient equipment to handle their actual work. METHODS: Therefore, this study suggests a methodology to evaluate for operational efficiency of road management equipment using analytical hierarchy process(AHP). First of all, estimated weights related criteria can be produced by AHP, and then use operational history by pieces of equipment. RESULTS: Results show that importance of management work can differ from weather conditions through five areas. CONCLUSIONS: Commonly, this results can imply to help save money for the purchase and maintenance of road management equipment, and they would improve the functional performance of KAMIS.

Numerical Investigation of Large-capacity Wind Turbine Wake Impact on Drone system during Maintenance (수치해석 활용 대용량 풍력발전시스템 유지보수 시 타워 및 블레이드 후류에 따른 드론 블레이드 간섭 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to develop guidelines for predicting interference between drones and wakes during non-destructive blade inspections in wind power systems. The wake generated by wind towers and blades can affect the stability of drone flights, necessitating the establishment of guidelines to ensure safe and efficient inspections. In order to predict the interference between drones and blades, environmental variables must be considered, including quantification of turbulence intensity in the wake generated by the tower and blades, as well as determining the appropriate distance between the drone and the tower/blades for flight stability. To achieve this, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was performed using cross-sectional geometries corresponding to the main wind turbine blade and tower span locations. Based on the CFD analysis results, a safe flight path for drones is proposed, which minimizes the risk of collision and interference with towers and blades during maintenance operations of wind power systems. Implementation of the proposed guidelines is expected to enhance the safety and efficiency of maintenance work.

  • This analysis introduces a lube oil circulation system for a big reducer in the chemical process industries. We have been operating the system and found out that the system greatly helped us save the maintenance cost by increasing the lifetime of the reducer.
