To develop an efficient pump operating rule for a retard basin, it is necessary to estimate inflow to the retard basin accurately which is affected by the backwater effect at the outlet of the conduit. The magnitude of the backwater effect is dependent on the water depth of a retard basin; however, the depth is determined by the amount of inflow and outflow. Thus, a real time simulation system that is able to simulate urban runoff and the pump operation with the consideration of the backwater effect is required to estimate the actual inflow to a retard basin. With this system, the efficient pump operating rule can be developed to diminish the possible flood damage on urban areas. In this study, a realtime simulation system is developed using the SWMM 5.0 DLL and Visual Basic 6.0 equipped with EXCEL to estimate inflow considering the backwater effect. The realtime simulation can be done by updating realtime input data such as minutely observed rainfall and the depth of a retard basin. Using those updated input data, the model estimates actual inflow, the amount of outflow discharged by pumps and gates, the depth of each junction, and flow rate at a sewer pipe on realtime basis. The developed model was applied to the Joonggok retard basin and demonstrated that it can be used to design a sewer system and to estimate actual inflow through the inlet sewer to reduce the inundation risk. As results, we find that the model can contribute to establish better operating practices for the pumps and the flood drainage system.

In this study, collecting data in real retail-premium market and the influencing factors were extracted explored the formation of retail-premium. This should identify the level of retail-premium through an objective estimate of expenses, revenues, etc. A hierarchical regression analysis was conducted focusing on how the operating profit affected the formation of retail-premium. Store operators will have to be accompanied by the management of the operating profit to keep the initial payment and in order to receive a raise retail-premium. Through this process, It is possible to prevent the gap between retail-premium calculated through the appraisal and market practices. Ultimately, I believe and achieve the objective, transparent, the advancement of retail-premium market.

In order to increase students' academic achievement effectively and at the same time to draw active participations from students during the computer lab, we applied the reciprocal peer tutoring education model. We focused on a short-term application of the reciprocal peer tutoring to computer operating system lab education with as little preparation as possible. 61 college students majoring in computer engineering participated in this research; half of them studied in the reciprocal peer tutoring setting, and rest of them did in the normal lab setting. Results show that students who participated in the reciprocal peering tutoring lab have higher academic achievement and better satisfaction on overall education and the class's professor. We hope that our method will be easily used in other universities' computer lab education.

The purpose of this study is to prioritize improvement factors of the tug services in terms of the structural problem, operating system and the present condition of the tug at each port in Korea. It was identified that the tug operating system needs to be mostly improved among the improvement factors of the tug services in Korea. In addition, free contract and rotating system were found to be important factors which need to be improved comparing to other factors such as service quality, tug rules, operating practices of council for tug operation and customer factor. The service attitude of the tug companies was regarded as an important element. And the tug entry system appeared to be an important item. Finally, laws relating to tug business needs to be revised which allow new tug companies enter into the market. As the result of AHP analysis for tug systems and service improvement factors, some fundamental changes of tug operation systems are urgently needed.

In this paper, we describe a design and implementation method of a smart card operating system for multi applications. A smart card is the independent computing system and is able to be used in multi applications such as the electronic commerce and the electronic cash. Smart card operation system(SCOS) provides a basis of smart card booting, and controls and manages application programs. SCOS can produce and control a file system to support multi applications in EEPROM, communicate commands and messages with outside devices, process a command, produce a reply message, and provide security functions of file security in EEPROM, and communication security. Therefor, in this paper, we design and implement SCOS system that provides the authentication between a card and a terminal, the session authentication for multi applications, the processing of commands, and the maintenance of the security.

Conventional methods for assessing remaining life of critical high temperature components in fossil power plants rely on nondestructive inspection practices and accompanying life analysis based on fracture mechanics By using these conventional methods. It has been difficult to perform uninterrupted in-service inspection for life prediction. Thus, efforts have been made for developing on-line remaining life monitoring systems employing information on the shape of structures, operating variables and material properties. In thus study, a software for on-line life monitoring system which performs real-time life evaluation of a high temperature system headers was developed. The software is capable of evaluating creep and fatigue life usage from the real-time stress data calculated by using temperatures/stress transfer Green functions derived in advance for the specific headers. The major benefits of the developed software life in determining future operating schedule, inspection interval, and replacement plan by monitoring real-time life usage based on prior operating history.

Smartphone has formed a new market and introduced a new environment. They have an operating system like PCs, enabling free installation and removal of application programs. As the number of Smartphone users is increasing, more personal information is also exposed to malicious codes. There are problem of modification and deletion of files, battery consumption, and information leakage due to malicious codes. As the needs of Smartphone antivirus solutions are increasing, the antivirus solutions should be evaluated with quality characteristics. In this paper, we propose an effective evaluation method for functionality and performance of Smartphone antivirus solutions, and the best practices for evaluation.

The objective of study is to evaluate design standards related to the allowable truck speeds, taper length and sign requirements together with the operating practices and economic justification for climbing lanes. Field surveys were carried out on seven climbing lanes, three on two-lane and four on four-lane freeways. Data collected are traffic volume, speed, usage rate and delay. It is found that current design criteria for determining the length of climbing lane, taper lengths, and traffic sign requirements must be upgraded. It is also recommended that regulations on the use of climbing lane be established to make it more effective. Further, economic analysis revealed that the climbing lane is economically justified for two-lane and four-lane freeway if the AADT is over 4,577 and 5,116 vehicles respectively.

This study is to examine the factors that influence the performances of service quality in university hospitals by investigating systematically the condition of service quality. A synthesis of the health care quality is conducted to identify physical quality, operating process quality, and human resources quality that relate to both the overall satisfaction and intention of revisit. Based on the proposed hypotheses, the relationships between the service quality factors and performance are examined using data collected from 167 patients in three hospitals, Korea. Reliability and validity tests are performed for examining its relationship with service quality in health care systems. Total eight independent variables with respect to three service quality levels and two dependent variables for performance are identified for relationships between service quality and performance in health care systems. The results provide health care managers with a managerial insight to the planning function of performance with service quality in health care systems as well as other operations (business, government, or other service organizations) systems. Implication of the study for theory, future studies, and practices are discussed.

The organizations registered ISO 9000:1994 have upgraded to ISO 9001:2000 family through transition period by December, 2003. Some features of ISO 9001:2000 family are that it merged three ISO 9000 series, reduced 20 requirements to five major clauses, and focused on Plan-Do-Check-Act improvement cycle. We interviewed quality managers and staffs of 37 companies certified ISO 9001:2000 in Busan and Kyungnam provinces where most machine, metalwork, and manufacturing companies in South Korea are located. Using statistical analysis, we find out which status of firms are related with the requirements of five clauses. We also discover if there is any difference in performing the requirements depending on top managership, reasons for seeking ISO 9001:2000 certification, and ISO 9001:2000 operating period.
