  • This paper focuses on maintenance scheduling using PSO algorithm for power plants from an economic (operating cost) and reliable(variance of operating reserve margin) point of view. We also apply regional reserve margin and transfer capability to maintenance scheduling problem. The proposed method has been applied to IEEE-RTS(1996) with 32-generators and a real -world large scale power system with 291 generators.

  • Parameters in the internal combustion engines are variable depending on the operating points. Therefore, it is necessary to compensate for the uncertainties. Form this point of view, this paper gives a controller design method and a robust stability condition by LMI approach for engine torque control which satisfies the gives H$\infty$ control performance in the presence of physical parameter perturbations. To the end, the robustness of the system in the presence of perturbation is guaranteed in the all engine operating regions. Its effectiveness is demonstrated by simulation.

  • Analytical study on the thermodynamical cyclic behabiour and characteristics of HFC-l34a refrigerant for automotive air conditionser system for the replacement of existing CFC-12 has been carried out in this paper through development of system performance simulation program, expecially in the view point of system design considerations. The results indicate that HFC-l34a system will give a greater refrigerating capacity than CFC-12 if appropriate engineering measures such as proper codensers, flow controllers, etc., taken for certain operating conditions. The results, however, also show that the operating power for compression process increases over entire temperature range as a result of decreasing volumetric efficiency due to larger specific volume and increased discharging pressure. The present study results indicate that proper selection of condensing and evaporating temperature plus refrigerant control is very important performance factor to have better COP in the HFC-134a system design.

Through this process the pressures of the components of a propellant rise rapidly up to the operating point, and the components enter into a gas-generator.   • The bed combustion in an incinerator interacts with the gas flow region through heat and mass transfer. Combined bed combustion and gas flow simulations are performed to investigate this coupled interaction for various operating conditions and furnace configurations. Radiation onto the bed from the furnace is interrelated with the combustion characteristics in the bed, and is also affected by the flow pattern in the gas flow region. Since the contribution of gaseous emission to the total radiation is significant, an adequate flow pattern in a well-designed furnace shape would lead to an increased heat influx on the bed, especially in the early stage of the waste combustion. Advancing the initiation point of the waste combustion can also reduce the size of the lower gas temperature region above the bed, which can be achieved by controlling operating conditions such as the waste feeding rate, the bed height and the primary air flow distribution.

  • The configurations of the heat exchanger of the boiler can be determined from the trade-off between the heat transfer area which is related to the capital cost and the pressure drop which is related to operating cost. In this study, 3.5 ton/hr small size marine boiler having concentric annuli tubes is the design boiler. To determine the optimizing point, according to diameter, number, length of tube, heat transfer, pressure drop, operating cost and capital cost have been calculated. Also, when the fin tube is replaced by the bare tube design parameters changed have been calculated.

  • In this paper, a fuzzy logic controller is designed for position control of an Arage disk. The Arage disk system is an experimental set to exploit Arago's disk phenomenon which is the operation principle of induction motors. Since the Arage disk system operates in stable, maginally stable, and unstable regions, it is suitable as a test system to evaluate efficiency of various control system design methods. It is shown that the fuzzy logic controller shows good responses for multi-operating points of Arage disk system, while the controllers using linearized models are able to control the system on only one operating point.

  • Conventional P/PI speed controller of today's servo drives should be manually tuned the controller switching set-point by trial-and-errors, which may translate the drive system down-time and loss of productivity. The adjustable drive performance is heavily dependent on the quality of the expert knowledge and becomes inadequate in applications where the operating conditions change in a wide range, i.e., tracking command, acceleration/deceleration time, and load disturbances. In this paper, the demands on simple controls/setup are discussed for industry servo drives. Analyzing the frequency content of motor torque command, P/PI control mode switching is automatically performed with some prior knowledge of the mechanical dynamics. The dynamic performance of the proposed scheme assures a desired tracking response curve with minimal oscillation and settling time over the whole operating conditions. For comprehensive comparison of traditional P/PI control scheme, extensive test is carried out on actual servo system.

  • This paper introduce the technology of peak demand reduction using automatic water tank pumping system on the apartment. That systems on the apartments installed water tank can control pumping(electricity) demand. Generally, system peak demand is occurred at the same time on workday and many water pumps consume electric power randomly. At this point, shift of operating time of water pump can reduce peak demand using automatic water tank pumping system. We were operating this system on some apartments for test of effect of peak demand reduction. and we represent result of demand shift. This result suggests that spread of the automatic water pumping system can contribute to reduce system peak demand and reduce system operation cost.

  • This paper concerns the problem of determining the spare inventory level for multi-echelon repairable-item inventory system with finite number of operating items. We consider the system which has several bases and a central depot. When an item fails, it is dispatched to a repair facility and, a spare, if available, is plugged in immediately. When the failed item is repaired, it is sent to the base and either is used to fill a backorder or is stored at a spare inventory point. Using queueing network, we develop an algorithm to find the spare inventory level which minimizes the total expected cost and, simultaneously, satisfies a specified minimum fill rate. The results of the algorithm clearly indicate that the algorithm successfully generate output with optimal solution.
