Background: Garlic and its constituents are reported to have been effective in reducing methane emission and also influence glucose metabolism in body; however, studies in ruminants using garlic leaves are scarce. Garlic leaves contain similar compounds as garlic bulbs, but are discarded in field after garlic bulb harvest. We speculate that feeding garlic leaves might show similar effect as garlic constituents in sheep and could be potential animal feed supplement. Thus, we examined the effect of freeze dried garlic leaves (FDGL) on rumen fermentation, methane emission, plasma glucose kinetics and nitrogen utilization in sheep. Methods: Six sheep were fed Control diet (mixed hay and concentrate (60:40)) or FDGL diet (Control diet supplemented with FDGL at 2.5 g/kg $BW^{0.75}$ of sheep) using a crossover design. Methane gas emission was measured using open-circuit respiratory chamber. Plasma glucose turnover rate was measured using isotope dilution technique of [$U-^{13}C$]glucose. Rumen fluid, feces and urine were collected to measure rumen fermentation characteristics and nitrogen utilization. Result: No significant difference in rumen fermentation parameters was noticed except for rumen ammonia tended to be higher (0.05 < P < 0.1) in FDGL diet. Methane emission per kg dry matter ingested and methane emission per kg dry matter digested were lower (P < 0.05) in FDGL diet. Plasma glucose concentration was similar between diets and plasma glucose turnover rate tended to be higher in FDGL diet (0.05 < P < 0.1). Nitrogen retention was higher (P < 0.05) and microbial nitrogen supply tended to be higher (0.05 < P < 0.1) in FDGL diet. Conclusion: FDGL diet did not impair rumen fermentation, improved nitrogen retention; while absence of significant results in reduction of methane emission, glucose turnover rate and microbial nitrogen supply, further studies at higher dose would be necessary to conclude the merit of FDGL as supplement in ruminant feedstuff.
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the corrosion resistance of the specimens produced by five different commercial metal laser sintering (MLS) systems with their recommended Co-Cr alloy powders. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The MLS machines and the alloy powders used were, ProX 100-ST2724G (St-Pro), Mysint 100-EOS SP2 (SP2-Mys), EOSINT 270-EOS SP2 (SP2-EOS), SLM 100-Starbond CoS (SB-SLM), and MLab Cusing-Remanium® Star (RS-MLab), respectively. Eight specimens from each group were prepared. Open circuit potential (Eocp) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements of polished surfaces of the specimens were conducted in a three-electrode cell using a potentiostat-galvanostat in Fusayama-Meyer artificial saliva (AS). Specimens from each group were immersed in AS and de-ionized water for seven days. Eocp, charge transfer resistance (Rct) values, and released ions (㎍/㎠ × 7d) in different solutions were determined. The specimen surfaces were observed with SEM/EDS. Results were analyzed statistically. RESULTS. Eocp values have shifted to potentials that are more positive over time. Steady-state Eocp values were from high to low as follows, SB-SLM, SP2-Mys, SP2-EOS, RS-MLab, and ST-Pro, respectively. After 60 mins, RS-MLab specimens had the highest Rct value, followed by SP2-Mys, SB-SLM, SP2-EOS, and ST-Pro. In all groups, ion release was higher in AS than that in de-ionized water. CONCLUSION. There were small differences among the corrosion resistances of the Co-Cr alloy specimens produced with MLS systems; meanwhile, the corrosion resistances were quite high for all specimens.
LSGM$(La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Ga_{0.8}Mg_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}})$ is the very promising electrolyte material for lower-temperature operation of SOFCs, especially when realized in anode-supported cells. But it is notorious for reacting with other cell components and resulting in the highly resistive reaction phases detrimental to cell performance. LDC$(La_{0.4}Ce_{0.6}O_{1.8})$, which is known to keep the interfacial stability between LSGM electrolyte and anode, was adopted in the anode-supported cell, and its effect on the interfacial reactivity and electrochemical performance of the cell was investigated. No severe interfacial reaction and corresponding resistive secondary phase was found in the cell with LDC buffer layer, and this is due to its ability to sustain the La chemical potential in LSGM. The cell exhibited the open circuit voltage of 0.64V, the maximum power density of 223 $mW/cm^2$, and the ohmic resistance of $0.17{\Omega}cm^2$ at $700^{\circ}C$. These values were much improved compared with those from the cell without any buffer layer, which implies that formation of the resistive reaction phases in LSGM and then deterioration of the cell performance is resulted mainly from the La diffusion from LSGM electrolyte to anode.

Dye-sensitized Solar Cell (DSC) is a new type of solar cell by using photocatalytic properties of $TiO_2$. The electric potential distribution in DSCs has played a major role in the operation of such cells. Models based on a built-in electric field which sets the upper limit for the open circuit voltage(Voc) and/or the possibility of a Schottky barrier at the interface between the mesoporous wide band gap semiconductor and the transparent conducting substrate have been presented. $TiO_2$ thin films were deposited on the FTO substrate by Nd:YAG Pulsed Laser Deposition(PLD) at room temperature and post-deposition annealing at $500^{\circ}C$ in flowing $O_2$ atmosphere for 1 hour. The structural properties of $TiO_2$ thin films have investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and atomic force microscope(AFM). Thickness of $TiO_2$ thin films were controlled deference deposition time and measurement by scanning electron microscope(SEM). Then we manufactured a DSC unit cells and I-V and efficiency were tested using solar simulator.

The purpose of this study was to investigate corrosion tendency and to compare corrosion resistance of three dental magnetic attachments and its keeper alloy by coercive, electrochemical method. By using petentiodynamic polarization technique, magnetic elements and its keeper alloy of Magfit EX600 system(MF, MFK), Dyna ES regular system(DN, DNK) and Shiner SR magnet system(SR, SRK) were corroded electrochemically in 0.9% NaCl electrolytic solution. Open-circuit potential and anodic polarization curve was measured with Potentiostat(model 273 EG&E) and polarization curve was created by current density per square area following scanning of increased series of voltage in the rate of 1.0mV per second. Before and after electrochemical corrosion, the surface roughness test was done. Thereafter the change of mean surface roughness value(Ra) and mean peak value(Rt) of surface roughness was compared one another. In order to observe the corroded surface of each specimen, metallurgical light microscopic(${\times}37.5$) and scanning electron microscopic view(SEM ${\times}100$) was taken and compared one another. Conclusion is followings. 1. All of six covering metal of dental magnetic attachments and its keeper alloy were corroded in various degree after electrochemical corrosion. 2. The corrosion resistance of which used in this experiment is the following in high order; DNK, MFK, DN, MF, SRK and SR. 3. Especially Shiner magnet system and its keeper alloy were more severely corroded after electrochemical corrosion and the change of Ra Rt value were more increased than others. 4 Metallurgical and scanning electron microscopic view showed the pitting corrosion tendency of all experimental alloy but DNK and SR. 5. Covering metal of magnet was more corroded than its keeper alloy.

Aluminum alloys have poor corrosion resistance compared to the pure aluminum due to the additive elements. Thus, anodizing technology artificially generating thick oxide films are widely applied nowadays in order to improve corrosion resistance. Anodizing is one of the surface modification techniques, which is commercially applicable to a large surface at a low price. However, most studies up to now have focused on its commercialization with hardly any research on the assessment and improvement of the physical characteristics of the anodized films. Therefore, this study aims to select the optimum temperature of sulfuric electrolyte to perform excellent corrosion resistance in the harsh marine environment through electrochemical experiment in the seawater upon generating porous films by variating the temperatures of sulfuric electrolyte. To fabricate uniform porous film of 5083 aluminum alloy, we conducted electro-polishing under the 25 V at $5^{\circ}C$ condition for three minutes using mixed solution of ethanol (95 %) and perchloric (70 %) acid with volume ratio of 4:1. Afterward, the first step surface modification was performed using sulfuric acid as an electrolyte where the electrolyte concentration was maintained at 10 vol.% by using a jacketed beaker. For anode, 5083 aluminum alloy with thickness of 5 mm and size of $2cm{\times}2cm$ was used, while platinum electrode was used for cathode. The distance between the two was maintained at 3 cm. Anodic polarization test was performed at scan rate of 2 mV/s up to +3.0 V vs open circuit potential in natural seawater. Surface morphology was compared using 3D analysis microscope to observe the damage behavior. As a result, the case of surface modification showed a significantly lower corrosion current density than that without modification, indicating excellent corrosion resistance.

Palm oil production is among the highest worldwide, and it has been mainly used in the food industry and other commodities. Currently, a lot of palm oil production has been destined for the synthesis of biodiesel; however, its use in applications other than the food industry has been questioned. Thereby for a sustainable development, in this paper the use of palm oil of low quality for corrosion inhibitors synthesis is proposed. The performance of the synthesized inhibitors was evaluated by using electrochemical techniques such as open circuit potential measurements, linear polarization resistance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results indicate that the fatty amides from palm oil are excellent corrosion inhibitors with protection efficiencies greater than 98%. Fatty amides molecules act as cathodic inhibitors decreasing the anodic dissolution of iron. When fatty amides are added, a rapid decrease in the corrosion rate occurs due to the rapid formation of a molecular film onto carbon steel surface. During the adsorption process of the inhibitor a self-organization of the hydrocarbon chains takes place forming a tightly packed hydrophobic film. These results demonstrate that the use of palm oil for the production of green inhibitors promises to be an excellent alternative for a sustainable use of the palm oil production.

A portable and disposable pH sensor based on Ti wire was successfully developed for monitoring hydronium ion concentrations. A sensing electrode was prepared by electrochemically depositing iridium oxide onto a Ti wire, while a reference electrode was fabricated by coating Ag/AgCl ink on a Ti wire. Combining the two electrodes in the pH sensor enabled the collection of open circuit potential signals when the sensor was immersed in solutions of various pH values. The pH sensor exhibited excellent electrochemical sensing performance in terms of sensitivity, response time, repeatability, selectivity, and stability. To demonstrate point-of-measurement applications, the pH sensor was integrated with a wireless electronic module that could communicate with a mobile application. The portable pH sensor accurately measured pH changes in real samples. The results obtained were consistent with those of using a commercial pH meter.
The field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is gaining popularity in industrial automation such as nuclear power plant instrumentation and control (I&C) systems due to the benefits of having non-existence of operating system, minimum software errors, and minimum common reason failures. Separate functions can be processed individually and in parallel on the same integrated circuit using FPGAs in comparison to the conventional microprocessor-based systems used in any plant operations. The use of FPGAs offers the potential to minimize complexity and the accompanying difficulty of securing regulatory approval, as well as provide superior protection against obsolescence. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are a new technology for acquiring and processing plant data wirelessly in which sensor nodes are configured for real-time signal processing, data acquisition, and monitoring. ZigBee (IEEE 802.15.4) is an open worldwide standard for minimum power, low-cost machine-to-machine (M2M), and internet of things (IoT) enabled wireless network communication. It is always a challenge to follow the specific topology when different Zigbee nodes are placed in a large network such as a plant. The research article focuses on the hardware chip design of different topological structures supported by ZigBee that can be used for monitoring and controlling the different operations of the plant and evaluates the performance in Vitex-5 FPGA hardware. The research work presents a strategy for configuring FPGA with ZigBee sensor nodes when communicating in a large area such as an industrial plant for real-time monitoring.
