The main objective of this paper is to study the effect of porosity on the buckling behavior of thick functionally graded sandwich plate resting on various boundary conditions under different in-plane loads. The formulation is made for a newly developed sandwich plate using a functional gradient material based on a modified power law function of symmetric and asymmetric configuration. Four different porosity distribution are considered and varied in accordance with material propriety variation in the thickness direction of the face sheets of sandwich plate, metal foam also is considered in this study on the second model of sandwich which containing metal foam core and FGM face sheets. New quasi-3D high shear deformation theory is used here for this investigate; the present kinematic model introduces only six variables with stretching effect by adopting a new indeterminate integral variable in the displacement field. The stability equations are obtained by Hamilton's principle then solved by generalized solution. The effect of Pasternak and Winkler elastic foundations also including here. the present model validated with those found in the open literature, then the impact of different parameters: porosities index, foam cells distribution, boundary conditions, elastic foundation, power law index, ratio aspect, side-to-thickness ratio and different in-plane axial loads on the variation of the buckling behavior are demonstrated.
The main goal of this article is to develop the finite element formulation based on the nonlocal strain gradient and the refined higher-order deformation theory employing a new function f(z) to investigate the static bending and free vibration of functionally graded porous (FGP) nanobeams. The proposed model considers the simultaneous effects of two parameters: nonlocal and strain gradient coefficients. The nanobeam is made by FGP material that exists in un-even and logarithmic-uneven distribution. The governing equation of the nanobeam is established based on Hamilton's principle. The authors use a 2-node beam element, each node with 8 degrees of freedom (DOFs) approximated by the C1 and C2 continuous Hermit functions to obtain the elemental stiffness matrix and mass matrix. The accuracy of the proposed model is tested by comparison with the results of reputable published works. From here, the influences of the parameters: nonlocal elasticity, strain gradient, porosity, and boundary conditions are studied.

Considerable interest has evolved in the flow of non-Newtonian fluids in channels of noncircular cross section in compact heat exchanges. Analytical solution was developed for prediction of the flow rate and maximum velocity in steady laminar flow of any incompressible, time-independent non-Newtonian fluids in straight closed and open channels of arbitrary, but axially unchanging cross section. The geometric parameters and function of shear describing the behavior of the fluid model were evaluated for fluid flow among a bundle of rods arranged in triangular and square array. Numerical values of dimensionless maximum velocities, mean velocities, pressure-drop-flow parameters and friction factors were evaluated as a function of porosity and pitch-to-radius ratio.

Quasi-ordered arrays of hollow $SnO_2$ hemispheres were prepared by utilizing the colloidal templating route and RF-sputtering methods. Hollow $SnO_2$ hemispheres with shell thickness of 20nm exhibited an uniform continuity and open porosity, resulting in high gas sensitivity due to enhanced surface area as well as reduced interfacial effects. Multilayered hollow $SnO_2$ hemispheres and hollow $SnO_2$ hemispheres with controlled wall thickness were fabricated by controlling processing steps.
In the present study, equiatomic porous TiNi shape-memory alloys have been successfully prepared by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) using elemental titanium and nickel powders. The porous TiNi alloys thus obtained have an open porous structure with about 64 vol.% porosity, and the pore size is about 1.8 mm. The effect of preheating temperature on the microstructure have been investigated. It is found that the pore size increases with increasing preheating temperature. Moreover, the preheating temperature was shown to have a significant effect on the microstructrue of the SHS-synthesized porous TiNi shape memory alloys.
An attempt was made to analyze green microstructure of AIN samples prepared by slip casting and dry pressing through Hg-porosimetry. Slip cast samples with narrow pore size distribation and high packing density showed higher sinterability and homogeneous distribution of second phase(s). Hg-porosimetry is and effective way to determine pore structure if "ink bottle" phenomenon does not occur. A comparison study with porosity measurement by quantitative microscopy showed that the effectiveness of Hg-porosimetry measurement could be extended to higher sintered density as long as pores remained open.

Tensile stress-strain and dynamic acoustic resonance tests were performed on Fe-C-Ni-Cu-Mo high-strength steels, characterized by a heterogeneous matrix microstructure and the prevalence of open porosity. All materials display the first yielding phenomenon and, successively, a continuous yielding behavior. This flow behavior can be described by the Ludwigson equation and developes through three stages: the onset of localized plastic deformation at the pore edges; the evolution of plastic deformation at the pore necks (where the austenitic Ni-rich phase is predominant); the spreading of plastic deformation in the interior of the matrix. The analytical modeling of the strain hardening behavior made it possible to obtain the boundaries between the different deformation stages.

Preparation of graded materials displaying gradients of desired properties is one of the important issues and less-developed areas in materials chemistry. For the first time we demonstrate facile control of porosity and length in the pores of AAO template in lateral directions by controlled dipping method. To demonstrate the versatility of the proposed method, laterally graded silica nanotubes are also prepared by using the laterally graded AAO templates. The method demonstrated here will open numerous possibilities for obtaining a variety of graded materials with lateral gradients of catalytic, electrochemical, mechanical and optical properties on the nanoscale.

The humidity-sensitive specimens-(BaS11T-S1xTCaS1xT)TiOS13T, x=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5-were fabricated by a solid-state reaction method which is easy in process control of microstructure and good in mass production, and their humidity-sensitive characteristics were examined. Ca inhibits grain growth and the open porosity increases with Ca substitution, and the specimens at x=0.5 show the best humidity sensitivity. Their humidity sensitivity is higher at the lower frequencies, and drift phenomenon in humidity sensitivity is exhibted with aging in the air, which disappears by a heat treatment. The electrical conduction with water adsorption is dominated by the ions, and the activation energy decreases with increasing relative humidity.

The paper provides the results of failure analysis for the porcelain suspension insulators. The comparisons of characteristics were made as a function of failed and unfailed isulators which had been used in real distribution line. This paper also described the failure modes which could be occurred in the fields. The cracks inside cap were detected though measuring the resistance or the leakage current. The ratio of open porosity was calculated from the Archimedes Method. The failure analyses of porcelain suspension insulators were conducted from the various analysis method.
