  • A design guide to type-3 PLLs for FMCW radars is provided. To do that, the cross-over frequencies of the open-loop transfer functions were normalized to 1 Hz and closed-loop properties were compared through simulations using Pspice. As a result, several guides to design type-3 PLLs were provided: 1) secure 45 degrees of phase margin, 2) locate two zeroes at an identical frequency, and 3) poles may be added to raise order of the PLL at higher frequencies than the cross-over frequency of the open-loop transfer function about ten times.

  • Many computer vision algorithms are computationally expensive and require a lot of computing resources. Recently, owing to machine learning technology and high-performance embedded systems, vision processing applications, such as object detection, face recognition, and visual inspection, are widely used. However, on-devices need to use their resources to handle powerful vision works with low power consumption in heterogeneous environments. Consequently, global manufacturers are trying to lock many developers into their ecosystem, providing integrated low-power chips and dedicated vision libraries. Khronos Group-an international standard organization-has released the OpenVX standard for high-performance/low-power vision processing in heterogeneous on-device systems. This paper describes vision libraries for the embedded systems and presents the OpenVX standard along with related trends for on-device vision system.

  • The importance of prevention of epidemics is increasing due to the serious spread of infectious diseases. For prevention of epidemics, we need to focus on the non-contact industry. Therefore, in this paper, a face recognition door lock that controls access through non-contact is designed and developed. First very simple features are combined to find objects and face recognition is performed using Haar-based cascade algorithm. Then the texture of the image is binarized to find features using LBPH. An non-contact door lock system which composed of Raspberry PI 3B+ board, an ultrasonic sensor, a camera module, a motor, etc. are suggested. To verify actual performance and ascertain the impact of light sources, various experiment were conducted. As experimental results, the maximum value of the recognition rate was about 85.7%.

  • Open decks are a widely used deck configuration in long-span cable-stayed bridges; however, incorporating aerodynamic countermeasures are advisable to achieve better aerodynamic performance than a bluff body deck alone. A sectional model of an open deck cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 400 m was selected to conduct a series of wind tunnel tests. The influences of five practical aerodynamic countermeasures on flutter and vortex-induced vibration (VIV) performance were investigated and are presented in this paper. The results show that an aerodynamic shape selection procedure can be used to evaluate the flutter stability of decks with respect to different terrain types and structural parameters. In addition, the VIV performance of $\prod$-shaped girders for driving comfortableness and safety requirements were evaluated. Among these aerodynamic countermeasures, apron boards and wind fairings can improve the aerodynamic performance to some extent, while horizontal guide plates with 5% of the total deck width show a significant influence on the flutter stability and VIV. A wind fairing with an angle of $55^{\circ}C$ showed the best overall control effect but led to more lock-in regions of VIV. The combination of vertical stabilisers and airflow-depressing boards was found to be superior to other countermeasures and effectively boosted aerodynamic performance; specifically, vertical stabilisers significantly contribute to improving flutter stability and suppressing vertical VIV, while airflow-depressing boards are helpful in reducing torsional VIV.

  • An experimental investigation of two-dimensional steady natural convection cooling in a vertical open top cavity with conducting side walls of finite thickness is presented. The various heat-generating discrete heaters are located on one vertical wall of the cavity. When each heater dissipates different amount of power, the purpose of the work is to obtain the optimal array condition of the heaters. The four cases of non-uniform heating conditions are considered. The temperature fields in the cavity were visualized by the interferometer and local temperatures of the vertical wall were measured by thermocouples. The heaters were arranged in two configurations: flush-mounted on a vertical wall or protruding from the wall about 4.5 mm. The vertical wall was constructed out of copper or epoxy-resin sheet. Experiments have been conducted for air with constant Prandtl number(Pr=0.7), the aspect ratio of 4.6, 7.5, 9.5, power input in the range of 0.9 W ~ 4.2 W. For the enhancement of the cooling effectiveness, the upper and lower of vertical wall would give the better position for the heaters of higher heat flux.

  • Gyroscope is a very important core sensor, as a rotation sensor in inertial space, in inertial guidance and navigation system on aeronautics, plane, vessel and so on for civilian and millitary applications. Mechnical gyroscopes, adopting a principle of spinning a top, have been used in many application system. These mechnical gyroscopes need high power consumption, long warming time and complicated peripheral devices. But fiber-optic gyroscopes, based on the Sagnac effect, have novel advantages as small volume. simple scheme, low power consumption and high reliability. So we have developed a Intermediate grade All-fiber Optic Gyroscope, which has open-loop and minimum reciprocal configuration scheme. We have designed feedback circuits for stability of amplitude and phase using four lock-in amplifier(LIA) circuits and also used for noise limitation. This paper describes the scheme of optical part and electronic part and also test results of this all-fiber optic gyroscope. The performance have been achieved as long-term bias drift of $9.54^{\circ}/h$, random walk of $0.0317^{\circ}/\sqrt{h}$ and dynamic range of ${\pm}150\;deg/s$.

  • The solenoid valve in ABS hydraulics, modulator is a two directional on-off valve and is controlled by around 100Hz high speed pulse width modulation. When the inlet valve is switched from open state to closed state, there are braking force degration, noise and vibration due to pressure surge phenomena in the hydraulic line and wheel cylinder. In this study, identifies pressure surge phenomenon in the braking process of a ABS, and investigates the way to reduce the phenomenon. For the purpose theoretical analysis on the pressure surge in the closed state hydraulic line, characteristic curve method based on wave equation was utilized. During this analysis, we could find pressure surge characteristics change due to hydraulic line change and PWM control conditions. In conclusion, by using the results of this study for the pressure surge prediction and reduction method, we could expect braking performance enhancement in Anti-Lock Braking System.

  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) subluxation and dislocation are uncommon but very unpleasant and distressing conditions to patients. Subluxation of the TMJ is an excessively abnormal condylar excursion secondary to flaccidity and laxity of the capsule. When the condyle head excurses anterior to the eminence upon wide opening, it can return to the fossa by self-manipulation or non-surgical conservative reduction. Surgery is recommended if a complete dislocation, so-called open lock, occurs as a chronic or recurrent protracted condition that cannot be reduced voluntarily. A range of surgical procedures can be performed to limit condylar hypermobility inclusing soft tissue tethering, creation of articular obstacles, removal of mechanical blockade and augmentation of articular eminence using different kinds of grafts. In the present case, a 74-year-old woman was diagnosed with a chronic TMJ dislocation that had lasted for 6 months. Bilateral condylectomy was performed and the post-operative results were good without functional limitations or recurrence.
