  • I suggested the design learning environment based on affordance concept approach for supporting and improving learners' behavior and outcome for convergent design education in this study. The design learning space should be applied teaching and learning activity, especially learners' behavior, physical space condition to support the design thinking process. The design learning space needs openness, individuality and connectivity to support the learners' behavioral to immerse, participate, cooperate, understand, think and fulfill the design thinking process. The composition principles of the learning environment for convergent design education supports communication and collaboration among members for independence and interaction. The spaces for design research and teaching needs high privacy while facilitating visual communications through special materials and wall structure design. Also, for connectivity to improve the learners' physical and visual contact, the environment of the classrooms requires flexibility and mobility by providing an open space integrating unit cells for realizing learning purpose. These are provided by formed of an open structure for inducing visual communication and physical contact to involve the design activities and the mutual interchange.

  • The feasibility of a unique greenhouse, named as Gradient Biome, is now being examined extensively in the University of Tokyo. It is a large chamber (length:200m, width:50m, height:40m) in which the weather, such as temperature and humidity, of the tropical zone through to that of the frigid zone on the earth is reproduced with continuous gradient. In the Gradient Biome, ecosystems (mainly plants) corresponding to each weather are introduced and the possible responses of this ecosystems to the expected global warming are to be observed. Since one of the expected responses is the shift of the ecosystem(s) toward the region of suitable environment, there should be no artificial obstacles, which can prevent the shift, inside the Biome. This requirement is not so easy to be satisfied since the environment tends to be homogeneous. This paper presents the results of the numerical studies conducted to find the ways of how the temperature and humidity in the Gradient Biome could be reproduced. One of the contributed solvers of OpenFOAM, which is an open source physics simulation code, was modified and used for the numerical simulations.

  • Intertidal macroalgae are exposed to many abiotic stress factors, and they must regularly react to changes in their environment. We used RNA-seq to describe how Porphyra umbilicalis (Rhodophyta) changes gene expression patterns to interact with different habitats. Tissue samples were taken from a typical habitat along the open-coast of the Northwest Atlantic, as well as from a rare, atypical habitat in an estuarine tidal rapid environment. Differential gene expression analyses suggest that pathogic bacteria and viruses may be a significant factor influencing the transcriptome in the human-impacted estuarine environment, but the atypical habitat does not necessarily induce more stress in Porphyra umbilicalis growing there. We found genes related to nitrogen transport are over-expressed in tissue from the open-coastal site compared to those from the estuarine site, where environmental N levels approach hypertrophic levels. Low N levels impede growth, but high levels are toxic to cells, and we use qPCR to show this species regulates expression of a putative high-affinity $NH_4{^+}$ transporter under low and high N conditions. Differences in expression of this transporter in these habitats appear to be inherited from parent to offspring and have general implications for adaptation to habitat in other species that are capable of asexual reproduction, as well as more specific implications for this species' use in aquaculture.

  • Recently, use of Smartphones is growing at an extremely rapid pace. Many researchers have recognized the importance of developing Smartphones applications under these circumstances, and they have been conducted many studies to develop apps efficiently. The Smartphones middleware has become a focus of recent research to develop efficient Smartphones apps on a server-client environment in particular. In this study, for enhancing portability, expandability and convenience in the development of apps on the various platforms of Smartphones, We have proposed XML based Open API optimized in the Smartphones middleware. We also evaluated the performance, by applying it in Smartphone middleware environment.

  • Recently, a few types of fish-cage in open sea are researched. This fish-cage has to operate monitoring system for keeping an optimum living condition for fish. The most efficient monitoring system is WVMS(Wireless Vision Monitoring System) for fish-cage in open sea. WVMS should be able to transmit video signal and communicate with each controller. So. it needs to be based on WLAN(Wireless LAN) which has characteristic of higher transfer-rate, In this paper, we propose a structure of WVMS using WLAN equipments for maritime environment and prove its effectiveness. We present the propagation loss model of WVMS's communication channel. measured by field test, and discuss its validity compared with the predictive value based on the Friss propagation model and Plane earth reflection model. We present the number of frames that is received from WLAN modem connecting with underwater-camera in field test spots. As a result, we confirmed that proposed WVMS is suitable for maritime environment and it is possible to be applied to fish-cage in open sea on 'seogwipo'.

  • The advance of computer, network, and Internet technology enables the control systems to process the massive data in the distributed computing environments. To implement and maintain the software in distributed environment, the component-based methodology is widely used. This paper proposes the middleware architecture for the distributed computer control system. With the proposed middleware services, it is relatively easy to maintain compatibility between products and to implement a portable control application. To achieve the compatibility between heterogeneous systems, the proposed architecture provides the communication protocols based on the XML with lightweight event-based service.

  • In modem buildings, the concept of open-space plan gets more acceptance as it supports more flexibility for the internal space design. This open-space can be easily subdivided by internal partitioning to provide each individual working zone. Although the partitioning forms each physical working zone, its indoor environment could be different Iron what the occupants require. Especially the air movement and contaminant spread in each working zone could be blocked or distorted by the partitioning, which may produce unexpected change in ventilation performance designed. • Digital library technology is facing issues such as interoperability, content extension, and the need for a more efficient management environment. A system that is based on standardization and interoperability is required to resolve these issues. Open Digital Library is the system for the next generation that resolves the above problems. We have conducted some research on issues such as OAI and OAI-PMH, which are the basic knowledge behind the Open Digital Library technology and also investigated the Open Digital Library framework, cases of study and implementation of this technology. Finally, we have made some suggestions on the extendability of Open Digital Library technology using the standardized technologies.

  • With the full implementation of open banking in which both banks and fintech companies participate, changes in the whole society such as new types of products, services, and businesses are taking place. Whenever new systems and environments change, research on technology acceptance by system users has been continued, and this study also verified how the characteristics of open banking affect the perceived ease of use and usefulness of the Technology Acceptance Model, and the intention to use open banking. As a result of the study, it was found that both information provision, service interactivity, and system stability had a significant effect on perceived ease of use, usefulness, and intention to use open banking. In the future, open banking may bring significant benefits to data sharing, financial access, banking infrastructure, product innovation and pricing, but it is also expected to bring unexpected damage. Therefore, domestic financial institutions should actively cope with the situation where the business environment is greatly changing due to the digital environment change, and at the same time actively foster fintech companies and promote innovation in the financial industry.
