  • The purpose of this study is to look for an environmental design method based on open narrative structure, and to promote various experiences and interpretations of space through user's engagements. That is to say, the designer does not lead specific events through separate Boning but using the continuous open composition users are provided with margins for their imaginations. Spatial formulation through open narrative structure gives us various thoughts and it plays an important role in making a sequential space. Like an abstract painting, it is a complex story making or arranging a montage of images containing stories that elicit the reader's engagement through diverse interpretations. Like this, open composition exists in an ambiguous state and it is possible to interpret unfinished‘evolving work’within it. Utilizing open narrative structure, this study attempts to apply the idea of sequencing and open composition in the case of designing Arirang Culture Park. Open composition should induce various engagements by users and could be a medium which organically connects nature, culture and people. The spatial strategies of‘ambiguity’ and‘transparency’are like a bundle of complex and heterogeneous factors. Finally, the study focuses on the ‘integration’of the main ideas that compose multilayered space. ‘Voidness’and‘thickening’are also used for spatial strategies in open narrative structure. As alternative plans for undecided programs of the space, the voidness can be a strategic design program with flexibility about changes of futures. Also, thickening can be a strategic design program for functional reinforcement of the space, for the dramatic effects and for the generation of incidental events. Although both voidness and thickening seem paradoxical, we can see they are similar in the way that both focus on various spatial uses and by how they do not function as one-to-one correspondence, but as multiple correspondences. Therefore, open narrative structure is possible to apply in designing space and it can be an alternative design strategy for inducing multiple interpretations of space.

  • Fashion pictorials are recognized as another form of communication method beyond the concept of simply providing information or being artistic photography. Therefore, it is believed that there is necessity to know methods of making a strong impression on people's conscience by effective usage of various presentation techniques that can be used in fashion pictorials. This research studied characteristics of closed form and open form of Wolfflin's precept of forms presented in scene construction. Depaysement technique was classified into three classes which are alien transportation of a part, deformation and ambivalence of an image through literature review of depaysement presentation technique. After studying the concept and characteristics of narrative applicable as the open form, Annie Leibovitz's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" published in an actual fashion magazine was analyzed as an empirical study based on the theoretical research. Through this study, potential of applying depaysement technique as a presentation technique of closed form and narrative as a presentation technique of open form on fashion pictorials was identified. Factors that infuse creativity and achieve uniformity in producing fashion pictorials were shown through analysis of actual fashion pictorials.

  • Ludo-narrative dissonance is a prevalent problem among open-world genre video games. However, Ghost of Tsushima (2020) alleviates this issue by designing its characters and narrative structure influenced by Akira Kurosawa's samurai films. The game's protagonist represents "Bushido," a samurai code, and the structure exudes similarity to Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey," which heavily influenced Kurosawa's films. The developers also designed the gameplay mechanics such as level-up system, map design, and side quests based on these narrative traits, ultimately making the goal of the narrative and the gameplay mechanics cohesive.

  • This study examined the dramatic devices that the production team made for the studio progress in the survival music entertainment program of open narrative structure in which the audience participated through MBC 'The King of Mask Singer'. The reason for the need for dramatic equipment is that the studio Audience who participated in the process of the program crossed the situations of flow, selection, and enjoyment. As a result of the research, the production team of 'The King of Mask Singer' was found to have a device of time margin, lighting and background image, and role of MC in order to change the progress of the studio and that the participating audience naturally change their roles.

  • The digital contents industry already heads toward the OSMU(One Source Multi Use) method of media. In case the success of the original novel recreates to a movie, the success of a movie is again noticed with the original novel. For this reason, a novel and movie are open at the same time, In this paper, we analyze through the case study of three fantasy films having the narrative structure of the germane myth : The Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, The Chronicles Of Narnia based on the analysis basis : Hero's Journey 12 steps by J. Campbell, The analysis of scenes of each film visualizing the narrative structure of a novel can be used as the basic materials in the process of visualizing the scale of the original and message of a writer, we consequently believe that these analysis will be able to be applied the appropriate visual techniques (the special effect, the scene tractions, and etc.)in visualization of films.

  • Documenting environmental conflicts will be a priority target for documenting localities, because those conflicts are critical events that make intensive 'place experiences' of local residents. This study is to design a narrative structure for documenting conflicts in the process of Transmission Towers Construction in Miryang. This study begins with analysing the characteristics of environmental conflicts, and draws a conflicts documentation model including basic rules, narrative structure and development process. Basic rules are set up as mixed documentation of memory and evidence, application of 'frame', and dynamic description. Based on the rules, this study suggests a dynamic and open narrative framework adopting the metadata model of ISO 23081. This model is applied to documenting Transmission Towers Construction Conflicts in Mi-ryang. The full narrative and 'frame' of the conflicts are set after analysing development and issues of the conflicts, stakeholder, and properties of each conflict problem. Records descriptions are related to the context(each event occurred in the conflicting conditions, mandates, and stakeholder) descriptions to make multiple narratives in digital environments. Event description contains elements for articulating the 'frame' of each party of the conflict. The merits of this model are; i) to accumulate the adequate context information systematically by adopting dynamic narrative model, and ii) to acquire the new items and connect them to related items easily and consistently through multi-entity description. This documentation model of environmental conflicts may support to shape the collective memory of community, and to achieve good governance by managing conflicts in the process of locating non-preferred facilities with due regard to values and perceptions of residents and communities.

  • In Written on the Body, by creating the narrator's ungendered and unsexed identity, Winterson makes her text open to the reader's assumption of the narrator's sexual and gender identity. Thus, this novel has been read, on the one hand, as a lesbian text by those who assume that the narrator is a female and, on the other hand, as a suspicious text colluding with patriarchal and heterosexual values by those who define the narrator as a male. Those readings of the narrator as one of either sex/gender, however, demonstrate how (academic as well as general) readers have been accustomed to the gender-based reading habits in which textual meanings are dichotomously arranged along the lines of sex and gender of characters. Challenging those dualistic "gendered" readings, this paper reads Winterson's Written on the Body as a queer text which interrogates, troubles, and subverts the heterosexual concepts of narrative, desire, and body without reducing the narrator's identity to the essentialist sex and gender system. More specifically, this paper examines how the narrator's 'un-/over-' determined sexual and gender identity queers the narrative structure of author-character-reader; how the narrator's queer (fluid) desire is passing and traveling across categorical contours of (homo-/hetero-) sexual desires; how Winterson challenges the concept of a coherent body and queers the concept of body as a hermeneutic text with myriad textual grids which are not coherently mapped by power but randomly inscribed by nomadic desires.

  • Narrative runs through the entire human life. 'Narrative' is a means of understanding and experiencing human life. The past, the present and the future are not disconnected. The past is open to the future. The future defines the meaning of the past, and the past rreturn as the horizon of life. Past, present and future temporality functions as a Narrative. Records reproduce the past time as Narrative, and recount the past according to reading behavior. Reality and records complement each other with a cyclic and dialectic structure. This paper examines the relationship between reality and records. This paper applies Paul Ricoeur's Hermeneutics to records as a tool to examine the relationship between reality and record. We want to look at how records interpret and relates to reality, and how social justice of collective memory should be should be achieved against them.

  • The design hotel where new life styles of users were created and the exchange of one's identity and the culture was executed was employed the interaction design which considered the attendance and experience of users as the important motives. This study is to discuss on the relationship between the design hotel and interaction design, and to compare and analyze the differences in the expression methods of them. It was concluded that the design hotel had a close relation with the properties of information supply, amusements, narrative, personalization, and social exchange in the interaction design, and it mainly used the digital media of non-material, the juxtaposition of strangeness, the change of structure, substitution of values, appropriation of hybrid as a means of its expression. In addition, it was revealed that the properties above did not simply apply to an open space but were connected as a dominant-subordinate relationship into one subject. It is expected that the field of interaction design in the design hotel will be expanded due to the spread of digital technology and its role and importance will be increased. Therefore, it is thought that the study to provide the development of a variety of contents of design hotel should be kept through the study of organic relation between different subjects, avoiding the indiscriminate use of the contents.
