  • With the advancement of internet technology, traditional university libraries are going through metamorphosis into digital libraries. Digital libraries substitute digital files for printed materials, metadata for catalogues, world wide users on the network for localized patrons, while offering limitless possibilities for easy downloading of information. The aim of the study is to present a model for our digital library based on the knowledge auquired from the analysis of the state of the art technology employed in building and managing digital libraries and the management of large quantity of SGML electronic documents. This paper is our belief that the national information infrastructure for university digital libraries are mandatory for an open information society.

  • This study aims to explore the status and adoption pattern of next generation OPAC functionalities employed in Korean academic libraries. The paper is useful for future planning of next generation OPAC in academic libraries. This study firstly extracted major functionalities of next generation OPAC by reviewing literature and then the pilot test was conducted to validate them. The websites of 191 academic libraries in Korea were surveyed. For the accuracy of the data, the two researchers examined in redundant. The collected data were analyzed using PASW Statistics 18. 'Simple search box' was found to be the most popular function. The second popular function was 'search within results'. A few libraries used the 'clustering', 'open search plug-in', 'sort by relevance', and 'correct spelling error'.

  • One of the main issues in developing a digital library is how to implement an open digital library which can be interoperable, and diverse concepts, technology and protocols have been introduced to deal with this issue. In this study, it is analysed in terms of 'metadata interoperability', and based on the analysis, 5 basic component technologies are defined as follows: application profiles, modeling, implementation, resource discovery, portal service. Therefore it explains concepts of those core features, characteristics, cases in point, standardization and technical trends.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for verifying the location of the books in working order to enhance the effiency of library management. On open libraries, occasionally people relocate the book by mistake or intention after reading one. In this occasion, the book is assorted as a lost property and cannot be lended to others, even though it is still in the library. To solve this problem, the system we propose takes an image of the book selves by a mobile robot and extracts the classifying information of the book. After comparison between current location of the book and assigned location of the library database, information of the mislocated books is notified to the librarian.

  • This study aims to understand the characteristics of civil petitions and complaints within public libraries and to identify factors to the civil petitions. We develop a survey questionnaire for the goals based on the previous related studies and a pilot study with several open-ended interviews with public library users. Then we collect data using the questionnaire from 154 survey participants (public library users). The collected data are statistically analyzed by using factor analysis, canonical correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis. The results show that there are two identified dependent factors, such as petition and complaint, and six independent factors, including librarian specialty, service convenience, and communication between librarians and users. Through a series of statistical analysis for identifying specific relationships between individual dependent factors and predictors, we discuss the characteristics of the library civil petitions and complaints, and the importance of a structural/relation-based approach to the library civil petition as a complimentary for the functional approach. Based on the results and discussions, we suggest several future research directions, including research on the relationship between the library civil petitions and library performances.

  • The aim of this study is focused on knowing what bibliotherapists experience while they are in a session with their clients in library settings. Qualitative interviews were conducted as the main research tool or method used for this study. The study participants included 12 bibliotherapist respondents specializing in library. They were divided into two groups of 6 and each group was interviewed for approximately 2 to 3 hours. The interview employed a question asking methodology modified from that presented and/or originally used by Kruger and Casey(2000). The interview utilized open ended questions in the order of starting, introduction, main, and ending questions. Analyses of the interviews were based on methods presented by Morgan and Scannell(1998). Results of the study show that experiences through therapy sessions consisted of 7 different themes, 26 specific categories, and 84 unique concepts. The purpose of the study was to observe the problems bibliotherapist have or may encounter in library settings, provide feedback to make each session better, and as a result, help both the library and bibliotherapist during the bibliotherapy process.

  • Because the library cannot be run independently and used by many applications, it is important to detect vulnerabilities in the library. Fuzzing, which is a dynamic analysis, is used to discover vulnerabilities for the library. Although this fuzzing technique shows excellent results in terms of code coverage and unique crash counts, it is difficult to apply its effects to library fuzzing. In particular, a fuzzing executable and a seed corpus are needed that execute the library code by calling a specific function sequence and passing the input of the fuzzer to reproduce the various states of the library. Generating the fuzzing environment such as fuzzing executable and a seed corpus is challenging because it requires both understanding about the library and fuzzing knowledge. We propose a novel method to improve the ease of library fuzzing and enhance code coverage and crash detection performance by using a test framework. The systems's performance in this paper was applied to nine open-source libraries and was verified through comparison with previous studies.

  • Meshes are the most appropriate data structures for representing 3D geometries. Surface meshes have been frequently used for representing 3D geometries, which only samples data on the surfaces of the given 3D geometries. Thanks to the improvements of computing powers, it is required to develop more complicated contents which utilize the volumetric information of 3D geometries. In this paper, we introduce a novel volumetric mesh libraries based on the half-face data structure, called OpenVolMesh, and describe its designs and implementations. The OpenVolMesh extends the OpenMesh, which is one of the most famous mesh libraries, by supporting volumetric meshes. The OpenVolMesh provides the generic programming, dynamic allocations of primitive properties, efficient array-based data structures, and source-level compatibility with OpenMesh. We show the usefulness of the OpenVolMesh in the developments of 3D volumetric contents with prototypic implementations such as volumetric mesh smoothing and CW-cell decompositions.

  • A hand-gesture interface to manipulate a 3D object of augmented reality is implemented by recognizing the user hand-gesture in this paper. Proposed method extracts the hand region from real image, and creates augmented object by hand marker recognized user hand-gesture. Also, 3D object manipulation corresponding to user hand-gesture is performed by analyzing a hand region ratio, a numbet of finger and a variation ratio of hand region center. In order to evaluate the performance of the our proposed method, after making a 3D object by using the OpenGL library, all processing tasks are implemented by using the Intel OpenCV library and C++ language. As a result, the proposed method showed the average 90% recognition ratio by the user command-modes successfully.

  • For the spread of the open access institutional repository in Korea, this study aims to analyze the factors affecting the acceptance of the repository. To gather the research data, a questionnaire survey was conducted for acceptance and non-acceptance institutions of the open access repositories. The questionnaire consisted of questions based on the revised R-TDM. Integrated Technology Diffusion Model is a theory that seeks to explain how, why, and at what rate new technology and innovations spread through specific factors and cultures. According to the data analyzing, technology acceptance level of social factors was turned out the most effective factors to make a decision to accept the repository to their institutions. And institution factors, innovation resistance factors, and system factors were arranged in order of strong influence. This study will provides the basis for developing policies for dissemination and spread of repositories in Korea.
