  • This essay is an attempt to give a theoretical articulation of novelistic mimesis as the narrative form of modernity. With the passage to modernity, what assumes the locus of the symbolic authority is no longer God, Father, or tradition, but the cultural gaze or the ego-ideal. At the same time, this gaze paradoxically coalesces with the "spectacle of the world," on the side of the reified "other": the gaze is both the desexualized ego-ideal and its instantaneous transmogrification and resexualization in the opaque world of objects. The imaginary ego or the eye on the side of the subject of representation is held at abeyance in a state of perpetual fascination and desperation in relation to the gaze as the world of "others," which lies always at one remove from the purview of the imaginary ego. This understanding of the inadequation of the ego to the cultural gaze of the reified world provides a critical fulcrum upon which I base my theory of the modern narrative mimesis as the "perverse" field of spatial arrangement, in which the split of the subjectivity into the imaginary ego and the ego-ideal is suspended over the phantasmatic world of bodies and territories.

  • The generation of coherent x-ray beams by using a multi-slit diffraction phenomenon is presented. The mode-confinement conditions in the x-ray waveguide (XWG) needed to obtain single-mode beams are determined. The XWGs are stacked to form an XWG array. The core of the XWG array is used as a slit in an opaque screen, similar to those used for visible light. Diffraction patterns that interfered constructively in the XWG array are investigated based on multi-slit diffraction theory. The irradiance distributions are studied at on observation screen. The FWHM of diffracted x-ray spectra were between $1.67{\times}10^{-4}$ to $3.30{\times}10^{-5}$ radians which lead to a spot-size of a few tens of micrometers on the screen at distance of 1 m. The intensities decrease with increase in the period of the XWG array, i.e. a thicker cladding, due to growth of the higher-order diffraction peaks.

  • Recently, it is gradually raised necessity that thickness of thin film is measured accurately and managed in industrial circles and medical world. In this study, regarding to the thickness of film which is in opaque object and is beyond distance resolution capacity, thickness measurement was done by MEM-cepstrum analysis of received ultrasonic wave. In measurement results, film thickness which is beyond distance resolution capacity was measured accurately. And within thickness range that don't exist interference, thickness measurement by MEM-ceptrum analysis was impossible.

  • Recently, It is gradually raised necessity that thickness of thin film is measured accuracy and managed in industrial circles and medical world. Ultrasonic Signal processing method is likely to become a very powerful method for NDE method of detection of microdefects and thickness measurement of thin film below the limit of Ultrasonic distance resolution in the opaque materials, provides useful information that cannot be obtained by a conventional measuring system. In the present research, considering a thin film below the limit of ultrasonic distance resolution sandwiched between three substances as acoustical analysis model, demonstrated the usefulness of ultrasonic Signal processing technique using information of ultrasonic frequency for NDE of measurements of thin film thickness, sound velocity, and step height, regardless of interference phenomenon. Numeral information was deduced and quantified effective information from the image. Also, pattern recognition of a defected input image was performed by neural network algorithm. Input pattern of various numeral was composed combinationally, and then, it was studied by neural network. Furthermore, possibility of pattern recognition was confirmed on artifical defected input data formed by simulation. Finally, application on unknown input pattern was also examined.

  • The combination of ultrasound echo images with digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV) methods has resulted in a two-dimensional, two-component velocity field measurement technique appropriate for opaque flow conditions including blood flow in clinical applications. Advanced PIV processing algorithms including an iterative scheme and window offsetting were used to increase spatial resolution. The optimum concentration of the ultrasound contrast agent used for seeding was explored. Velocity validation tests in fully developed laminar pipe flow result of echo PIV showed good agreement with both optical PIV measurements and the known analytic solution based on a volume flow measurement.

  • A new method of measuring the thermal diffusivity of solid material at room temperature with photothermal displacement method is proposed. The influence of the parameters on phase lag was studied. From the minimum position of phase of measured deflection with respect to the pump beam the thermal diffusivity of the materials can be obtained. The minimum position of phase is determined using multiparameter least-square regression fitting. The experimental values for different samples obtained by applying new method are in good agreement with the literature values.

  • The ages of sandfish, Arctoscopus japoninis sampled from the eastern sea of Korea, were determined by the transverse section method of otoliths. Ages were assigned to every individual according to the number of opaque zones, and then fitted to the von Bertalanffy growth equation. Estimated equations were $L_t=25.90(1-e^{-0.2976(t+0.4447)})$ for females and $L_t=21.38(1-e^{-0.2917(t+1.2087)})$ for males, where t is age (year) and $L_t$, is body length (mm) at age t. These two equations were significantly different and the body length of females calculated from the equation was larger than that of males except at 1 year old.

  • A case of renal candidiasis is reported in a 4-year-old male Masked Palm civet (Paguma larvata). On necropsy, the kidneys were bilaterally swollen, pale and had numerous 1 to 3 mm diameter white foci throughout the parenchyma on cut section. The urinary bladder was filled with opaque and milky exudate. Histologically, severe infiltration of neutrophils and macrophages and necrosis were noted in the interstitial areas of both cortex and medulla and in the lumens of renal tubules and collecting duct often resulting in cystic dilation of the tubules. • Mechanical, physical and petrographic properties of seventeen marble specimens collected from ten marble mines in Korea were investigated. Studied marbles were mainly composed of calcite, dolomite, and various amounts of serpentine, tremolite, olivine, quartz and opaque minerals. Complete and sutured textures were dominant. Compressive strength measured normal to the bedding plane is larger almost two times than that measured parallel to the bedding plane. From the results of Shore hardness test on marbles, water content was an important factor to decrease Shore hardness values. Engineering geological properties, especially, compressive strength, Young's modulus, wear resistance and water absorption could be controlled by the presence of quartz, and the type of marble texture. Water absorption-porosity, compressive strength-Young's modulus, and impact strength index-Los Angeles abrasion couples show good correlation. According to the comparative utility as commercial stone, it could be concluded that marbles from the Banglim mine, Songbo mine, Kwangdeok mine and Bongjeong mine were superior to that of other studied marbles.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to know of photopolymerization effect of self-etch dual-cured resin cement on different transmittance and thickness of zirconia disks. Methods: The two types of transparent and opaque zirconia speciments were prepared. The five speciments of each groups were seperated with 0.5mm and 1.0mm thickness. Degree of conversion(DC) were studied by FT-IR spectroscopy using ATR method before and after irradidaion for 40 sec. Results: The relative DC was showed the higher results of ZS5 as compared with ZS10 (p < 0.05). And OP5 and OP10 were lower results than ZS10 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The photopolymerization effect of dual-cured resin cement were affected by the transmittance and thickness of zirconia.
