In recent years, service discovery is one of the major technologies of home networks which head for a pervasive computing environment. However, existing service discovery techniques are difficult to understand semantics, and they only provide syntactic level service matching. To solve these problems, we have designed and developed ontology for semantic service discovery. Our ontology could enrich the amount of devices and services representations with semantics, and the relation of devices and service could be efficiently described through primitive service. For representing context information of devices, we describe attributes of device including location information, device status and etc. To determine whether the developed ontology can be applied to service discovery systems, we have implemented a semantic service discovery system by extension of the existing Jini lookup service. Also, we have evaluated our ontology with associated software environment according to some experiment scenarios, and have proved the usefulness of our ontology-based semantic service discovery system.
This study suggests that it dynamically generates semantic Web services from Java and C++ components in order to supporting semantic Web service by using ontology. And the semantic Web should enable greater access not only to content but also to services on the Web. It needs semantic service discovery for components. So, we add ontology-based framework to Web service generation system from components. Especially, components and ontologies are transformed UML model so that it makes WSDL documents to support a generation of dynamic Web service using object modeling. The main contribution of this study is to generate web service dynamically from components and to support semantic Web environment by using ontology. In other words, this study integrates semantic Web service based on ontology and CBD method.
The Semantic web service is able to intelligently discover, execute, composite and monitor the Web Service. It constructs the ontology on Web Service and describes the Semantic Markup in the machine-readable form. The currently developing technologies of the Semantic Web Service discovery are DAML-S matchmaker in Carnegie Mellon University, Process Handbook in MIT and etc. In this paper, we propose the ontology language based on Topic Maps that supports the benefits and solves the problems of the Semantic Web Service discovery technologies .
To provide autonomous and dynamic services for users in a ubiquitous environment where heterogeneity, mobility and variability are main characteristics, an efficient service description/structuring mechanism and a service composition method are essential. Service composition can consider context in real-time and compose appropriate services. In this research, we propose a mechanism for extracting services from a specific domain and structuring them into hierarchical service ontology. Each service is described using the proposed service specification. Based on this service ontology, users can represent their goals using various abstraction levels of services, and then our service overloading method enables to invoke the most appropriate service at the execution time. Moreover, we present a method which can discovery an alternative service by referencing the service ontology, when the requested service is not available. The experimental result shows that our service ontology could improve the success probability of users' goals and reduce service binding time compare to using just an unstructured list of services.
In this paper, an infra-structure using the ontology based on the pulse information is proposed for the context-aware service of medical information system in ubiquitous computing environment. An diagnosis service inference system that represents the pulse data which was generated by the pulse-diagnosis with wearable signal, temperature, humidity, time, and other factors as ontology with artificial intelligence methods and describes the service scenario based on the ontology is designed and implemented.
The many researches on context-aware service based on the combination of semantic technology and IoT environment are being actively done. However, the previous study exploiting ontology has limitations not to accommodate the service requirement changes due to ontology prebuilt by specific service scenario. Although the concept of cross vertical ontology has emerged in order to overcome the limitation, it has other limitations that need additional components composing service environment for expressing context information and can't represent state information of environment elements. To cope with these limitations, we propose SISO (Semantic-based IoT Service Ontology) that can represent the states of environmental element without the need for additional context-information element. To verify SISO's characteristics, we select the service scenario and present applied results. The qualitative analysis comparing with the previous study is also presented by the applied results of service scenario.

To support complex business environment. the enterprise information system requires prompt and flexible response to altered conditions. The development of collaboration among information systems in accordance with changes in enterprises' business environment brings about the problems of duplication of the existing business services and increase in costs of maintenance. In order to supplement and resolve such problems, researches on ontology are under way. Ontology can support the semantic interoperability of Web service by describing the resources of particular business domains and the relationships among them. This thesis suggests ontology that supports interoperability among services. The constructed ontology is designed into the service area, the meta area, and the instance area, which can support the collaboration efficiently by providing the link between the interactivity among businesses and the data. The register and call of constructed ontology are carried out with the interaction of the three areas, that is, the service area, the instance area and the meta area that supports the common elements. The efficiency of the proposed ontology is evaluated by comparing with an existing Web service ontology.
Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a new trend for the design of application architecture to enhance the degree of share and reuse with the concept of service. It comes from the current situation where the business environments are changing rapidly and therefore competitions are getting bitter. To cope with such business challenges, business (and/or applications) architecture needs considerably flexibility and reusability, and that's why SOA is accepted as one of the most effective framework for the business applications in these days. In this paper we propose an analysis and design methodology for the applications of SOA. To implement the proposed methodology, the service ontology needs to be defined first, and the tasks such as service profiling, workflow design and service orchestration need to be followed. To validate the expected effects on flexibility and reusability, the proposed methodology was compared with CBD (Component Based Development).
Effective service description and modeling methodologies are essential for dynamic service composition to provide autonomous services for users in ubiquitous computing environments. In our previous research, we proposed a 'u-Service' as an abstract and structured concept for operations of devices in ubiquitous environments. In addition, we established the mechanism to structure u-Services as an ontology and the description specification to represent attributes of u-Services. However, it did not provide enough methods or standards to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the u-Service ontology in the design time. Since existing quality models for software products or computing systems cannot consider characteristics of ubiquitous services, they are not suitable for ubiquitous service ontology. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a quality evaluation model to design and modeling a good ubiquitous service ontology, based on our u-Service ontology building process. We extract modeling goals and evaluation indicators according to characteristics of ubiquitous service ontology, and establish quality metrics to quantify each quality sub-characteristics. The experiment result of the proposed quality evaluation model for u-Service ontologies which are constructed for our previous works shows that we can analyze the design of ubiquitous service ontology from various angles, and indicate recommendations for improvement.

This paper designs a service-oriented wireless sensor network ontology model which can be used as a knowledge base in future ubiquitous computing. In contrast to legacy approaches, this paper defines the new service classes (ServiceProperty, LocationProperty, and PhysicalProperty), as well as their properties and constraints that enable the service-oriented service based on service items. The service item merging between the proposed model and the legacy ontology was processed using the "equivalentClass" object property of OWL. The Protege 3.3.1 and RACER 1.9.0 inference tools were used for the validation and consistency check of the proposed ontology model, respectively, and the results of service query was applied to the newly defined property in SPARQL language without reference to the properties of legacy ontology.
