  • Online shopping has been undergoing significant developments in the South Asian region in the last decade. Using a representative sample of Sri Lankan consumers, this study explored online food purchasing behavior in Sri Lanka, a developing nation and island in South Asia. Data were collected from 562 respondents from all nine provinces in Sri Lanka using an online survey. Consumer attitudes were evaluated using factor analysis, and factor scores were added as explanatory variables to the final model. An ordered logistic regression model was used to examine the impact of consumer demographics, economic variables, and consumer attitudes on online food purchases. Online food purchasing intensity was categorized into four groups that suited ordinal rankings: zero for never, low for rarely, medium for occasionally, and high for regularly. Results indicated that age, income, education, and living in urban areas affect the online food purchasing behavior of Sri Lankan consumers. In addition, trust, convenience, and attitudes toward price were powerful drivers of online food purchasing. The findings have a number of significant managerial ramifications for creating strategies to promote online food purchases in developing South Asian nations like Sri Lanka. Moreover, promoting online shopping could be a potential solution for traffic congestion, ultimately helping to mitigate the negative externalities associated with it, such as carbon emissions and air pollution.

  • Word-of-mouth (WOM) communication (traditionally important in consumption) is expanding its influence into cyber space and is playing an important role in online shopping. Consumers who use online shopping might not readily make purchasing decisions due to information overload, lack of accurate product recognition, and the distrust of commercial information. Subsequently, people use WOM communication for a mutual interchange with others who share common concerns, interests, and purposes. This study examines the consumer characteristics, perceived risk on online shopping and benefits of online shopping according to WOM behavior that may significantly affect consumer actions. Factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, cluster analysis, and Chi-square analysis were used for statistical analysis to identify the differences in consumer characteristics. Online WOM behavior consumers purchased more various items than offline WOM behavior consumers; however, the most influential purchasing factor was price regardless of WOM behavior. Offline WOM behavior consumers have shown higher perceived online shopping risks and benefits.

  • As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to prolong, non face-to-face, online classes has become the new normal in education. To examine the effect of course types and course delivery modes on student course satisfaction, the study analyzed survey data collected from 2,743 students enrolled in a 4-year university located in a metropolitan area. Basic Frequency analysis as well as keyword network analysis were used to analyze student survey data. The main results and implications of the study are as follows. First, the survey results indicated that students preferred asynchronous classes over synchronous online classes. This tendency was consistent regardless of student grades and majors as well as the course type. However, students majoring in more practice-oriented disciplines tend to prefer synchronous online classes and blended classes, and this tendency gets stronger with courses in major. Second, the keyword network analysis results further indicated that interactivity may play an important role in both synchronous and asynchronous online course satisfaction.

Research design, data, and methodology - This research utilizes SPSS 19.0 and AMOS17.0 to analyze the data. We used factor analysis to shape the structure of the original data and saved the information with multiple dimensions. We then deployed the AMOS software to analyze the model. We performed both factor analysis and structural equation analysis. Results - The findings of this study show that graphic and word descriptions, online chatting, and online reviews have a positive influence on perceived quality. Furthermore, perceived quality has a positive influence on purchase intention. Conclusions - First, detailed product information should be added to influence quality perception. Second, consumers expect a certain level of service while shopping. Simultaneously, online products reviews from consumers deserve attention as they can impact consumer purchase intention.

  • The aim of the current study was to suggest priorities needed to be considered by university instructors when designing online learning. Based on three types of interactions (learner-content, learner-instructor, and learner-learner interactions) for effective online learning (Moore, 1989), draft questionnaires representing each type of interaction were written. After examining content validity by two Ph.D. experts, the survey was constructed with an Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) form. Data of 133 university instructors were collected online. Results showed that support for designing learner-learner interaction was the priority for improving online learning. In terms of learner-instructor interaction, instructors needed to provide social-emotional support to learners so that learners could have a sense of belonging. For learner-instructor interaction, supporting instructors to monitor the level of understanding was the most highly demanding strategy for online learning. Limitations and suggestions for further studies were discussed.

  • In this study, we performed a comparative analysis of the sentiment value for the tourists in USA, China, and Korea on the COVID19 pandemic era to explore and find out the features of the tourists by using online reviews. We collected a total of 243,826 online hotel reviews for metropolitan city and vacation spot in the three countries to compare the features between the business and the vacation trips. We collected the online reviews into the tow groups from Jan. 1, 2019 to Nov. 31, 2019 for before COVID19 pandemic and from Apr. 1, 2020 to Deb 28, 2021 for during COVID19. Online reviews were categorized into 6 dimensions using LDA model. Sentiment analysis were presented for 6 dimensions by utilizing a lexicon base. We proposed an approach to analyzing the importance of each attribute by applying 6-dimensional sentiment values to conjoint analysis. Our empirical analysis showed that the proposed approach could explore and find out the changed features of travelers during the COVID19 pandemic.
