분지한계법을 이용한 양면조립라인 밸런싱 (Two-sided assembly line balancing using a branch-and-bound method)

  • This paper considers two-sided (left and right side) assembly lines which are often used, especially in assembling large-sized products such as trucks and buses. A large number of exact algorithms and heuristics have been proposed to balance one-sided lines. However, little attention has been paid to balancing two-sided assembly lines. We present an efficient algorithm based on a branch and bound for balancing two-sided assembly lines. The algorithm involves a procedure for generating an enumeration tree. To efficiently search for the near optimal solutions to the problem, assignment rules are used in the method. New and existing bound strategies and dominance rules are else employed. The proposed algorithm can find a near optimal solution by enumerating feasible solutions partially. Extensive computational experiments are carried out to make the performance comparison between the proposed algorithm and existing ones. The computational results show that our algorithm is promising and robust in solution quality.

  • A mixed model production line is a production line where a variety of product models are produced. In U-shaped production lines (called U-lines) used in just-in-time production system, the strategy of mixing product models is often used to provide various types of products to customers in time. Line balancing and model sequencing problems are important for an efficient use of mixed model U-lines. Although the two problems are tightly interrelated with each other, prior researches have considered them separately or sequentially. This paper presents a new method using a coevolutionary algorithm that can solve the two problems at the same time. To promote diversity and search efficiency, in this paper the evolutionary system is based on the localized interactions within and between populations. Methods of selecting environmental individuals and evaluating fitness are developed. Efficient genetic representations and operator schemes are also provided. When designing the schemes, we take into account the features specific to the problems. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is superior to existing approaches.

  • 셀룰러/랜 기반의 중첩 네트워크는 유선 네트워크에 비해 상대적으로 제한된 대역폭을 가지는 특성으로 인해 효율적인 대역폭 관리에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 멀티미디어 중첩 네트워크상에서 트래픽의 이동을 통한 온라인 부하분산 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 이 방법은 각 네트워크간 트래픽 부하의 균형을 통해 지역적으로 발생하는, 과부하 현상을 극복하고 높은 대역폭 효율성을 보장한다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통하여 대역폭 관리를 위해 제안된 기존의 타 기법들과의 비교, 분석을 수행하여 제안된 방법이 다양한 네트워크 트래픽 상황에서 우수한 성능을 가지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Many mid-sized companies in Korean automotive industry have attempted to solve the lack of human power, to control the quality of components, to improve the production rate, and to innovate the manufacturing line. The goals of this study are to analyze the production rate of an automotive component manufacturing line using simulation software, to construct a Flexible Automation Subassembly (FAS) system and to suggest an optimized layout design using FAS line. In this research, the simulation model for manufacturing line was developed and used the realistic data of a medium sized company in Korean automotive industry. To complete this research, a simulation software 'ARENA' was used. This research analyzed the work distribution strategy and cycle time element for production flow and proposed an optimized layout to resolve line balancing problem which would bring the improved production rate.

  • 'Bowl Phenomenon' refers to allocating the work loads to middle stages slightly less than the outer ones in a series production system. Millier and Boling(1966) first discovered that the output rate of a production line were obtained by deliberately unbalancing, like a bowl-shape, under certain circumstances. So far quite a many researches have been studied either theory-oriented or simulation-oriented on this topic. However the papers concerning assemble production line are rather rare possibly due to the system complexity. In this paper, a simulation work on a 6-node assembly line has been conducted with the help of SLAMSYSTEM software. The simulation results have been turned out that 1) the Bowl phenemenon is still valid in the given system, 2) buffer storage between the work stations are critical measure for determining the degree of work-load unbalancing.

  • When balancing mixed model assembly lines (MMALs), workload smoothness should be considered on the model-by-model basis as well as on the station-by-station basis. This is because although station-by-station assignments may provide the equality of workload to workers, it causes the utilization of assembly lines to be inefficient due to the model sequences. This paper presents a genetic algorithm to improve the workload smoothness on both the station-by-station and the model-by-model basis in balancing MMALs. Proposed is a function by which the two kinds of workloads smoothness can be evaluated according to the various preferences of line managers. To enhance the capability of searching good solutions, our genetic algorithm puts emphasis on the utilization of problem-specific information and heuristics in the design of representation scheme and genetic operators. Experimental results show that our algorithm can provide better solutions than existing heuristics. In particular, our algorithm is outstanding on the problems with a larger number of stations or a larger number of tasks.

여성복 재킷 생산라인의 라인 밸런싱에 관한 연구 - 공정편성 효율을 중심으로 - (A Study on 'Line Balancing' of Women's Jacket Production)

  • This study establishes basic data for operations management by organizing processes and measuring time in the mini line for female jackets to improve productivity, ensure competitiveness, and maintain operator competency and the line process flow balance between apparel manufacturing companies. The results of this study are as follows. Sewing operations are divided into preparation functions, arrangement, partial tasks, and assembly that consist of 84 processes. The results from time measurement indicate that 3238.41seconds (sec) were required to produce a single jacket and that the average time required for operators was 231.32 sec. A control limit was established to increase the reliability of the measured value for net time. After outside values were removed, the operation time was measured to be 3176.35 sec. This accounted for 98.08% of the total operation time, with net time decreasing by 62.06. Skill and effort level coefficients were applied to measure the operator performance, the total real time was calculated to be 3415. The requirement for preparation and arrangement operations were 1233.35 sec, and 2182.22 sec for partial tasks and assembly operations. Process separation and organization were performed after the bottleneck operation was selected to identify the maximum line balance. Consequently, process efficiency of preparation and arrangement operations increased from 79.19% to 93.00%, and the partial tasks and assembly operations increased from 62.36% to 90.93%.

외란관측기에 기초한 자기베어링시스템의 제어기 설계 (Observer-based Controller Design of a Magnetic Bearing System)

  • There exist two critical in application of the magnetic bearing system. One is the control axis interference caused by gyroscopic effect and the other is the vibration caused by the unbalance on the rotor. To solve both problems at the same time, first, a centralized full-state feedback controller based on the LQR control theory was designed to compensate for the gyroscopic effect. Second, disturbance rejection control input based on the observer was designed to avoid the vibration causer by the unbalanced rotor. Balancing input computer accroding to LQR and output of the observer were derived in term of rotational speed. Effectiveness of the on-line balancing was verified through numerical simulation. The developed observer-based controller was also applied to the linear and nonlinear magnetic bearing systems.

분해도 및 작업시간 산정을 통한 균형잡힌 조립공정계획에 관한 연구 (Line Balanced Assembly Sequence Generation Based on a Verification of Disassemblability and Work Time)

  • This paper presents a method of a line balanced assembly sequence generation based on the verification of a disassemblability and a work time. To derive the disassemblability for a part to be disassembled, first we inference collision free assembly directions by extracting separable directions fur the part. And we determine the disassemblability defined by the separability and stability cost. The separability cost represents a facility of the part disassembly operation, and the stability cost which represents a degree of the stability for the base assembly motion. Based upon the results, we propose a new approach of evaluating work time using neural networks. The proposed assembly sequence generation provides an effective means of solving the line balancing problem and gives a design guidance of planning assembly lay-out in flexible manufacturing application. Example study is given to illustrate the concepts and procedure of the proposed schemes.

  • At a consequence of WWW large popularity, the internet has suffered from various performance problems, such as network congestion and overloaded servers. These days, it is not uncommon to find servers refusing connections because they are overloaded. Web server performance has always been a key issue in the design and operation of on-line systems. With regard to Internet, performance is also critical, because users want fast and easy access to all objects (e.g., documents, graphics, audio, and video) available on the net. To solve this problem, a number of companies are exploring the benefits of having multiple geographically or locally distributed Internet sites. This requires a comprehensive scheme for traffic management, which includes the principle of an optimal load balancing of client requests across multiple clusters of real servers. This paper focuses on the performance analysis of Web server and we apply these results to load balancing in clustering web server. It also discusses the mam steps needed to carry out a WWW performance analysis effort and shows relations between the workload characteristics and system resource usage. Also, we will introduce an optimal load balancing algorithm base on the RTSM (Real-Time Server Monitor) and Fuzzy Inference Engine for the local status of a real server, and the benefits is provided with of the suggested method.
