Performance Analysis of Vision-based Positioning Assistance Algorithm (비전 기반 측위 보조 알고리즘의 성능 분석)

  • Due to recent improvements in computer processing speed and image processing technology, researches are being actively carried out to combine information from camera with existing GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and dead reckoning. In this study, developed a vision-based positioning assistant algorithm to estimate the distance to the object from stereo images. In addition, GNSS/on-board vehicle sensor/vision based positioning algorithm is developed by combining vision based positioning algorithm with existing positioning algorithm. For the performance analysis, the velocity calculated from the actual driving test was used for the navigation solution correction, simulation tests were performed to analyse the effects of velocity precision. As a result of analysis, it is confirmed that about 4% of position accuracy is improved when vision information is added compared to existing GNSS/on-board based positioning algorithm.

A Study on the Estimation of the Sea Surface Temperature from AVHRR CH4 data of NOAA-9 (극궤도 기상위성 NOAA-9호의 AVHRR CH4 data로 부터 해수면온도 산출과정에 관한 연구)

  • Accurate determination of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) is essential for ocean and climate studies. This paper estimated SST in the sea region around the Korea from the Advenced Very High Resolution Radiometer(AVHRR) channel 4 data on board NOAA-9 satellite. The processing procedure used to derive SSTs utilized: 1) Ascending node prediction of satellite orbit 2) Geometric correction 3) Radiometric calibration and radiance to temperature conversion look up table 4) Removing cloudy area. SST product results are displayed as colored video and hardcopy. In this processing, geometric correction is derived from equator crossing time, ascending time and subpoint coordinate information. Also, normalized response function of infrared 10.5-11.5$\mu\textrm{m}$ wavelength is used for temperature conversion. The SST derived from this processing is relatively similar to the measurements made by ship data, but because of water vapor attenuation SST from satellite are in general 2$^{\circ}$- $^{\circ}C$ lower than the ship data.

  • The software-based satellite simulator has been developed from the start of the project to resolve the restriction and limitation of using hardware-based software development platform. It enables the development of flight software to be performed continuously since initial phase. The satellite simulator emulates the on-board computer, I/O modules, electronics and payloads, and it can be easily adapted and changed on hardware configuration change. It supports the debugging and test facilities for software engineers to develop flight software. Also the flight software can be loaded without any modification and can be executed as faster than real-time. This paper presents the architecture and design of software-based GEO satellite simulator which has hot-standby redundancy mechanism, and flight software development and test under this environment.

  • As the remote sensing satellite technology grows, the acquisition of accurate attitude and position information of the satellite has become more and more important. Due to the data processing limitation of the on-board orbit propagator and attitude determination algorithm, it is required to develop much more accurate orbit and attitude determination, which are so called POD (precision orbit determination) and PAD (precision attitude determination) techniques. The sensor and attitude dynamics simulation takes a great part in developing a PAD algorithm for two reasons: 1. when a PAD algorithm is developed before the launch, realistic sensor data are not available, and 2. reference attitude data are necessary for the performance verification of a PAD algorithm. A realistic attitude dynamics and sensor (IRU and star tracker) outputs simulation considering their physical characteristics are presented in this paper, which is planned to be used for a PAD algorithm development, test and performance verification.

  • The on-board telemetry system of KSLV-1 transmits telemetry signal for the launch vehicle and satellite to ground telemetry system in real time. In ground telemetry system, antenna system acquires telemetry signals and transfers these to data processing system. Data processing system processes and recordes telemetry data and distributes it to each mission operator in order to monitor it the operation goes well or not. This document describes the configurations and functions of data processing system designed for efficient and appropriate processing of telemetry data.

  • The synthetic aperture radar(SAR) is an equipment that can acquire images in all weathers day and night based on radar signals. The on-board processor of satellite SAR generates transmission signal by digital signal processing, converts it into an analog signal and transmits to antenna. Until the transmission signal generated by on-board processor is output, the signal passes the transmission cables and analog devices. At this time, these hardware distort the signal and makes SAR performance worse. To improve the performance, pre-distortion technique is used. But, general pre-distortion using taylor series is not sufficient to compensate for the distortion. This paper suggests transmit signal design method with improved pre-distortion. This paper uses envelop sampling method and interpolation filter for frequency domain compensation. The proposed method accurately compensates the hardware distortion and reduces resource usage of FPGA. To analyze proposed method's performance, IRF characteristics are compared when the proposed method applies to signal with errors.

  • 위성통신 시스템은 기존의 지상망이나 광 케이블 기술에 비해 통신 대역폭의 유연성과 다중 접속 능력, 이동 통신, 광역성, 멀티포인트 및 브로드캐스팅 등의 고유의 특징으로 인해 초 고속 정보 통신망 구축에 중요한 역할을 할 것이다. 또한 위성통신은 앞으로 도래할 브로드 캐스팅 및 멀티미디어 서비스 등의 통신환경을 지원하며, 지상중계망의 장애 및 트래픽 폭 주시에 대체경로를 제공함으로써 지상망 중심으로 진화·발전되어 온 B-ISDN망과 상호 보 완적인 보완망으로서의 역할을 수행할 것이다. 따라서 지상 B-ISDN과 위성망의 통합은 지 상망의 효율성고 안정성을 향상시킬 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 국가의 모든 통신망을 하나의 정 보 통신망으로 구성하여 국가의 정보를 효율적으로 이용, 관리 및 운용할 수 있기 때문에 위성망과 B-ISDN간의 연동에 대한 연구는 필수적이다. 본 논문에서는 OBP(On-Board Processing) 탑재 위성 B-ISDN 중계망의 호 처리 절차 연구를 수행하는 것으로서, 위성 B-ISDN 구조와 각 지구국별 신호 기능 및 B-ISDN 신호 시스템인 DSS2(Digital Subscriber Signalling No.2) 계층 3 신호 프로토콜, B-ISUP(B-ISDN User Part) 프로토콜, S-BISUP(Satellite BISUP) 프로토콜의 구조를 분석하였다. 또한 점-대-다지점 연결을 위한 B-ISDN의 연결과 소유권 및 각각의 프로토콜에 대한 메시지와 프리미티브를 정의하여, 이 를 토대로 OBP 탑재 위성 B-ISDN 중계망 연동을 위한 기본 호 처리 절차를 설계 및 검증 하고, 이를 구현하였다.

The Analysis on the relation between the Compression Method and the Performance of MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera) Image data

  • Multi-Spectral Camera(MSC) is a main payload on the KOMPSAT-2 satellite to perform the earth remote sensing. The MSC instrument has one(1) channel for panchromatic imaging and four(4) channel for multi-spectral imaging covering the spectral range from 450nm to 900nm using TDI CCD Focal Plane Array (FPA). The compression method on KOMPSAT-2 MSC was selected and used to match EOS input rate and PDTS output data rate on MSC image data chain. At once the MSC performance was carefully handled to minimize any degradation so that it was analyzed and restored in KGS(KOMPSAT Ground Station) during LEOP and Cal./Val.(Calibration and Validation) phase. In this paper, on-orbit image data chain in MSC and image data processing on KGS including general MSC description is briefly described. The influences on image performance between on-board compression algorithms and between performance restoration methods in ground station are analyzed and discussed.

  • In the three-axis control of satellites by using on-board actuators, gyros are usually used to measure the attitude angles and angular rates. The gyros are operated by electronic parts and mechanical actuators. The digital components of the electronic parts consist of largely FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) as one of the methods for VLSI(Very Large Scale Integrated) circuit design, while the mechanical parts provide output signal directly by mechanical actuation of a spinning rotor. In this research, a mixed mode of gyro is implemented in FGA. In addition to the hardware implementation, the simulation study was conducted by using the SABER for the mixed mode simulator. Results for the practical implementation of the satellite ACS (Attitude Control System) interfaced with the data processing are also presented to validate the FPGA implementation.

  • 위성통신 시스템은 기존의 지상망이나 광 케이블 기술에 비해 통신 대역폭의 유연성과 다중 접속능력, 이동통신, 광역성, 멀티포인트 및 브로드캐스팅 등의 본래의 특징으로 인해 초고속정보통신망 구축에 중요한 역할을 하게 된다. 특히 OBP (On-Board Processing) 기술을 적용하면 기존 위성통신 탑재장치의 수동적인 중계 기능 이외에 복조/재변조, 부호/복호화 및 오류정정, 중계기 및 빔간의 상호 연결/절체 등의 새로운 기능이 추가되어 능동적인 중계를 가능하게 함으로써 통신 품질의 향상, 통신 링크의 전송 효율 개선, 전송 용량 증대 등의 장점을 갖고있다. OBP 탑재 위성 B-IDSN 중계망은 하나의 거대한 가상 ATM 교환기로 간주되고, 여러중계 지구국들중 목적 중계 지구국으로 패킷들을 직접 라우팅 할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 본 논문은 OBP 탑재 위성 B-ISDN 연동 프로토콜 연구를 수행하는 것으로서, 위성 B-ISDN 구조와 각 지구국별 신호 기능 및 B-IDSN 신호 시스템인 DSS2 계층 3 신호 프로토콜, B-ISUP 프로토콜, S-BISUP 프로토콜의 구조를 분석하였다. 또한 점-대-다지점을 위한 B-ISDN의 연결과 소유권 및 각각의 프로토콜에 대한 메시지와 프리미티브를 정의하여, 이를 토대로 OBP 탑재 위성 B-IDSN 연동 프로토콜의 기본 호 처리 절차를 설계 및 구현하고, 이를 테스트하였다.
