  • The method of least squares is an adequate method of adjustment in various fields of engineering where redundant observations are necessary to obtain accurate values. The Consideration of weight of each Observation can improve the accuracy if the reliabilities of observations vary. The strip coordinates were weighted as inversely proportionate to the rotations $\kappa, \varphi, \omega$ which occur in the computation of model coordinates. The resulting errors in absolute coordinates were compared with the errors unweighted case to investigate the influence of orientation elements on absolute coordinates.

NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF TWO DIMENSIONAL INCOMPRESSIBLE FLOWS USING ARTIFICIAL COMPRESSIBILITY METHOD (가상 압축성 기법을 이용한 이차원 비압축성 유동의 수치모사)

  • In this paper, a new computational code was developed using Chorin's artificial compressibility method to solve the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. In spatial derivatives, Roe's flux difference splitting was used for the inviscid flux, while central differencing was used for the viscous flux. Furthermore, AF-ADI with dual time stepping method was implemented for accurate unsteady computations. Two-equation turbulence models, Menter's $k-{\omega}$ SST model and Coakley's $q-{\omega}$ model, hae been adopted to solve high-Reynolds number flows. A number of numerical simulations were carried out for steady laminar and turbulent flow problems as well as unsteady flow problem. The code was verified and validated by comparing the results with other computational results and experimental results. The results of numerical simulations showed that the present developed code with the artificial compressibility method can be applied to slve steady and unsteady incompressible flows.

Output AC Voltage Control of a Three-Phase Z-Source Inverter by the Voltage Gain and Modulation Index Control (전압 이득과 변조지수 제어에 의한 3상 Z-소스 인버터의 출력 교류 전압 제어)

  • This paper proposes a new method for constant control of the output AC voltage of a voltage-fed three phase Z-source inverter (ZSI), in case of Z-network DC voltage variation or heavy change of load. The modulation index for the reference output AC voltage of ZSI can be calculated by the basic definition of ZSI, the input DC voltage and capacitor voltage of Z-network. And, the output AC voltage of ZSI is controlled by the modified space vector modulation (SVM) with the calculated modulation index. By the proposed method, the modulation index of output AC voltage is closely following in the reference modulation index. The validity of the proposed method is verified using PSIM simulation. In case which the input DC voltage of ZSI is heavily changed from 100[V] to 70[V] (or to 150[V]) and in case which load is changed from $30[\Omega]$ to $10[\Omega]$, we confirmed that the output AC voltage of ZSI is constantly controlled by the proposed method because the modulation index of ZSI is also simultaneously changed. Finally, FFT and %THD of the output voltage and current of ZSI by the proposed method are analyzed.

Studies on the Rice Yield Decreased by Ground Water Irrigation and Its Preventive Methods (지하수 관개에 의한 수도의 멸준양상과 그 방지책에 관한 연구)

  • The purposes of this thesis are to clarify experimentally the variation of ground water temperature in tube wells during the irrigation period of paddy rice, and the effect of ground water irrigation on the growth, grain yield and yield components of the rice plant, and, furthermore, when and why the plant is most liable to be damaged by ground water, and also to find out the effective ground water irrigation methods. The results obtained in this experiment are as follows; 1. The temperature of ground water in tube wells varies according to the location, year, and the depth of the well. The average temperatures of ground water in a tubewells, 6.3m, 8.0m deep are $14.5^{\circ}C$ and $13.1^{\circ}C$, respercively, during the irrigation period of paddy rice (From the middle of June to the end of September). In the former the temperature rises continuously from $12.3^{\circ}C$ to 16.4$^{\circ}C$ and in the latter from $12.4^{\circ}C$ to $13.8^{\circ}C$ during the same period. These temperatures are approximately the same value as the estimated temperatures. The temperature difference between the ground water and the surface water is approximately $11^{\circ}C$. 2. The results obtained from the analysis of the water quality of the "Seoho" reservoir and that of water from the tube well show that the pH values of the ground water and the surface water are 6.35 and 6.00, respectively, and inorganic components such as N, PO4, Na, Cl, SiO2 and Ca are contained more in the ground water than in the surface water while K, SO4, Fe and Mg are contained less in the ground water. 3. The response of growth, yield and yield components of paddy rice to ground water irrigation are as follows; (l) Using ground water irrigation during the watered rice nursery period(seeding date: 30 April, 1970), the chracteristics of a young rice plant, such as plant height, number of leaves, and number of tillers are inferior to those of young rice plants irrigated with surface water during the same period. (2) In cases where ground water and surface water are supplied separately by the gravity flow method, it is found that ground water irrigation to the rice plant delays the stage at which there is a maximum increase in the number of tillers by 6 days. (3) At the tillering stage of rice plant just after transplanting, the effect of ground water irrigation on the increase in the number of tillers is better, compared with the method of supplying surface water throughout the whole irrigation period. Conversely, the number of tillers is decreased by ground water irrigation at the reproductive stage. Plant height is extremely restrained by ground water irrigation. (4) Heading date is clearly delayed by the ground water irrigation when it is practised during the growth stages or at the reproductive stage only. (5) The heading date of rice plants is slightly delayed by irrigation with the gravity flow method as compared with the standing water method. (6) The response of yield and of yield components of rice to ground water irrigation are as follows: \circled1 When ground water irrigation is practised during the growth stages and the reproductive stage, the culm length of the rice plant is reduced by 11 percent and 8 percent, respectively, when compared with the surface water irrigation used throughout all the growth stages. \circled2 Panicle length is found to be the longest on the test plot in which ground water irrigation is practised at the tillering stage. A similar tendency as that seen in the culm length is observed on other test plots. \circled3 The number of panicles is found to be the least on the plot in which ground water irrigation is practised by the gravity flow method throughout all the growth stages of the rice plant. No significant difference is found between the other plots. \circled4 The number of spikelets per panicle at the various stages of rice growth at which_ surface or ground water is supplied by gravity flow method are as follows; surface water at all growth stages‥‥‥‥‥ 98.5. Ground water at all growth stages‥‥‥‥‥‥62.2 Ground water at the tillering stage‥‥‥‥‥ 82.6. Ground water at the reproductive stage ‥‥‥‥‥ 74.1. \circled5 Ripening percentage is about 70 percent on the test plot in which ground water irrigation is practised during all the growth stages and at the tillering stage only. However, when ground water irrigation is practised, at the reproductive stage, the ripening percentage is reduced to 50 percent. This means that 20 percent reduction in the ripening percentage by using ground water irrigation at the reproductive stage. \circled6 The weight of 1,000 kernels is found to show a similar tendency as in the case of ripening percentage i. e. the ground water irrigation during all the growth stages and at the reproductive stage results in a decreased weight of the 1,000 kernels. \circled7 The yield of brown rice from the various treatments are as follows; Gravity flow; Surface water at all growth stages‥‥‥‥‥‥514kg/10a. Ground water at all growth stages‥‥‥‥‥‥428kg/10a. Ground water at the reproductive stage‥‥‥‥‥‥430kg/10a. Standing water; Surface water at all growh stages‥‥‥‥‥‥556kg/10a. Ground water at all growth stages‥‥‥‥‥‥441kg/10a. Ground water at the reproductive stage‥‥‥‥‥‥450kg/10a. The above figures show that ground water irrigation by the gravity flow and by the standing water method during all the growth stages resulted in an 18 percent and a 21 percent decrease in the yield of brown rice, respectively, when compared with surface water irrigation. Also ground water irrigation by gravity flow and by standing water resulted in respective decreases in yield of 16 percent and 19 percent, compared with the surface irrigation method. 4. Results obtained from the experiments on the improvement of ground water irrigation efficiency to paddy rice are as follows; (1) When the standing water irrigation with surface water is practised, the daily average water temperature in a paddy field is 25.2$^{\circ}C$, but, when the gravity flow method is practised with the same irrigation water, the daily average water temperature is 24.5$^{\circ}C$. This means that the former is 0.7$^{\circ}C$ higher than the latter. On the other hand, when ground water is used, the daily water temperatures in a paddy field are respectively 21.$0^{\circ}C$ and 19.3$^{\circ}C$ by practising standing water and the gravity flow method. It can be seen that the former is approximately 1.$0^{\circ}C$ higher than the latter. (2) When the non-water-logged cultivation is practised, the yield of brown rice is 516.3kg/10a, while the yield of brown rice from ground water irrigation plot throughout the whole irrigation period and surface water irrigation plot are 446.3kg/10a and 556.4kg/10a, respectivelely. This means that there is no significant difference in yields between surface water irrigation practice and non-water-logged cultivation, and also means that non-water-logged cultivation results in a 12.6 percent increase in yield compared with the yield from the ground water irrigation plot. (3) The black and white coloring on the inside surface of the water warming ponds has no substantial effect on the temperature of the water. The average daily water temperatures of the various water warming ponds, having different depths, are expressed as Y=aX+b, while the daily average water temperatures at various depths in a water warming pond are expressed as Y=a(b)x (where Y: the daily average water temperature, a,b: constants depending on the type of water warming pond, X; water depth). As the depth of water warning pond is increased, the diurnal difference of the highest and the lowest water temperature is decreased, and also, the time at which the highest water temperature occurs, is delayed. (4) The degree of warming by using a polyethylene tube, 100m in length and 10cm in diameter, is 4~9$^{\circ}C$. Heat exchange rate of a polyethylene tube is 1.5 times higher than that or a water warming channel. The Effect of Seasoning on the Distribution of Nutrient Intakes by a Food-Frequency Questionnaire in a Rural Area (한 농촌 지역에서 식품섭취빈도조사로 측정된 영양소 섭취 분포에 유지류와 양념류가 미치는 영향)

  • The development of food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) is based on food use and/or dish use. Regardless of potential effect of oils and seasonings on chronic diseases, most of food-based FFQs do not include oils and seasonings in calculation of nutrient intake. This study examined the effect of added (seasoning) oils and seasonings on the distribution of subjects by relative nutrient intake using a dish-based FFQ. The subjects were 1,303 persons (men 478, women 825) aged over 20 years old, who completed FFQ composed of 121 items. Three types of daily nutrient intake were calculated; 1) total nutrient intake with oils and seasonings, 2) nutrient intake without oils, and 3) nutrient intake without oils and seasonings. The correlation and agreement of classification of subjects by relative nutrient intake were examined. All analyses were performed using absolute nutrient intakes and total energy-adjusted nutrient intakes by residual method. Comparing total nutrient intake with the nutrient intake without oils, energy, vegetable fat and vitamin E intake were significantly decreased and kappa values were 0.95 (${\kappa}{\omega}$ = 0.98), 0.64 (${\kappa}{\omega}$ = 0.81), and 0.59 (${\kappa}{\omega}$ = 0.79), respectively. Comparing total nutrient intake with the nutrient intake without oils and seasonings, most of nutrients intake except animal fat, animal protein, retinol and cholesterol were significantly decreased, and kappa values of vegetable fat (${\kappa}$ = 0.64, ${\kappa}{\omega}$ = 0.81), vitamin E (${\kappa}$ = 0.59, ${\kappa}{\omega}$ = 0.79) and sodium (${\kappa}$ = 0.61, ${\kappa}{\omega}$ = 0.80) were under 0.80. After total energy was adjusted, agreement was lower than before total energy adjustment. Excluding oils and seasonings to assess nutrient intake underestimated vegetable fat, vitamin E and sodium intake and affected the distribution of subjects by their relative nutrient intake. Therefore, we suggest that research focused on these nutrients need to be cautious about the interpretation of the results.

Fatty Acid Intake, Serum Fatty acid Composition and Serum Se Concentration of Elementary School Children in Korea (우리나라 일부 초등학생의 지방산 섭취양상과 혈청 지방산 및 Selenium 수준에 관한 연구)

  • The purposes of this study were to 1) examine the dietary patterns of fatty acids and the fatty acid composition in serum, 2) determine selenium (Se) concentrations, and 3) investigate how serum fatty acid compositon affects serum levels of Se in Korean elementary school children. The subjects consisted of 168 school children(82 boys & 86 girls) belonging to 1st through 6th grades, and their dietary assessment was evaluated. The serum fatty acid composition was analyzed by GLC, and the ICP/MS method was employed to measure serum Se concentration. Total average intake of PUFA, MUFA and SFA were 10.5g, 12.7g, 11.2g respectively. Total average dietary P/M/S ratio was 1.10/1.18/1.0. The average intake of $\omega$3 fatty acids and $\omega$6 fatty acids were 1.33g, 9.19g, respectively. The $\omega$6/$\omega$3ratio was 14.2 which is higher than the recommended range. In serum fatty acid composition, PUFA, MUFA, SFA were 40.6%, 28.1% and 31.6% respectively. The average $\omega$3 fatty acid composition was 3.80%, and the mean value of $\omega$6 series was 36.8%. The M/S ratio of girls was significantly higher than boy's in fatty acids intake and in serum composition. Mean Se concentration of total subjects was 416.7ug/l and it was significantly higher in the lower grades(1st-3rd)than in the upper grades(4th~6th, p<0.05). Although the mean serum Se concentration was negatively correlated with PUFA composition in total boys and girls, it was not significant. Serum Se concentration was negatively correlated with P/S ratio and C24:1 concentration(p<0.05). In addition, serum composition of $\omega$6 PUFA and C24:1 showed negative correlations with serum Se in only lower grades girl(1st~3rd), and further studies are needed to clarify in these phenomena. In conclusion, the mean serum Se concentration was significantly lower in upper grades (4th~6th)than in lower grades(1st~3rd) of elementary school children and was negatively correlated with P/S ratio of serum fatty acids. More detailed studies on relationship between Se and fatty acids are required.

  • Existing error compensation method of industrial electronic absolute displacement detector only depends on skilled engineers. This paper proposes a new table method in order to automatize error compensation. An waveform changes according to the parallel resistance for each pole were tabularized and four waveforms were superimposed to minimize total phase error. These process was verified using simulink. As a result of applying proposed method to the real sensor, peak to peak error was reduced from $3.428^{\circ}$ to $0.879^{\circ}$. In this case, compensation resistance is $4.7k\Omega$ in B pole and $20k\Omega$ in C pole. This compensation rate is comparable to skilled engineers, and it takes 0.8 second which is far shorter than 15 minutes when expert does.

A Study of Power Conversion System for Energy Harvester Using a Piezoelectric Materials (압전소자를 이용한 에너지 하베스터용 전력변환장치 연구)

  • In this paper, the energy harvester with a piezoelectric materials is modeled as the electric equivalent circuit, and performances of a standard DC method and a Parallel-SSHI method are verified through experiment under variable force and load conditions. Piezoelectric generator consists of mass, damper and spring constant, and it is modeled by electrical equivalent circuit with RLC components. Standard DC and Parallel-SSHI are used as power conversion methods, and standard DC consists of full-bridge rectifier and smoothing capacitor. Parallel-SSHI method is composed of L-C resonant circuit, zero-crossing detector and full-bridge rectifier. In case of simulation under $100k{\Omega}$ load condition, the harvested power is $500{\mu}W$ in Standard DC and $670{\mu}W$ in Parallel-SSHI, respectively. In experiment, the harvested power under $100k{\Omega}$ load condition is $420{\mu}W$ in standard DC and $602{\mu}W$ in Parallel-SSHI. Harvested power of Parallel-SSHI is improved by approximately 40% more than that of standard DC method.

Synthesis of ITO Nano-Particles by a SAS Method and Preparation of Conductive Film by Coating Them (SAS법을 이용한 ITO 나노입자의 합성과 ITO 도포에 의한 도전필름의 제조)

  • The indium tin oxide(ITO) film on PET was prepared by a wet coating method to obtain the transparent film with a high conductance. ITO nano-particles was synthesized by a SAS method at 15 MPa and $50^{\circ}C$, where optimized rate of In/Sn was 65. Average diameter and resistivity of ITO obtained from SAS are $15{\pm}2\;nm$ and $4{\times}10^4\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. Coating solution was prepared at pH 10. The ITO film was obtained by solution including 0.1 0.5, 1, and 2 ITO wt% on PET. Roughness(Ra) of ITO film with 0.1, 0.5, 1. and 2 ITO wt% is 4, 10, 12, and 16 nm. Resistivity with an increasing ITO concentration is $3.7{\times}10^6,\;2.4{\times}10^6,\;8{\times}10^5,\;and\;2{\times}10^5\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. Transmissivity of ITO film decreased as 89, 88, 86, and 82% with an increasing ITO concentration as 0.1, 0.5, 1, and 2 wt%.
