Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for patients with liver oligo-recurrence and oligo-progression from various primary tumors. Materials and Methods: Between 2002 and 2013, 72 patients with liver oligo-recurrence (oligo-metastasis with a controlled primary tumor) and oligo-progression (contradictory progression of a few sites of disease despite an overall tumor burden response to therapy) underwent SBRT. Of these, 9 and 8 patients with uncontrollable distant metastases and patients immediate loss to follow-up, respectively, were excluded. The total planning target volume was used to select the SBRT dose (median, 48 Gy; range, 30 to 60 Gy, 3-4 fractions). Toxicity was evaluated using the Common Toxicity Criteria for Adverse Events v4.0. Results: We evaluated 55 patients (77 lesions) treated with SBRT for liver metastases. All patients had controlled primary lesions, and 28 patients had stable lesions at another site (oligo-progression). The most common primary site was the colon (36 patients), followed by the stomach (6 patients) and other sites (13 patients). The 2-year local control and progression-free survival rates were 68% and 22%, respectively. The 2- and 5-year overall survival rates were 56% and 20%, respectively. The most common adverse events were grade 1-2 fatigue, nausea, and vomiting; no grade ${\geq}3$ toxicities were observed. Univariate analysis revealed that oligo-progression associated with poor survival. Conclusion: SBRT for liver oligo-recurrence and oligo-progression appears safe, with similar local control rates. For liver oligo-progression, criteria are needed to select patients in whom improved overall survival can be expected through SBRT.
In this study, we intend to fabricate an all solid polymer battery with a reduced interfacial resistance between the solid electrolyte and the electrode by applying thiophene based polymers as both electrode and electrolyte materials. In order to minimize the interfacial resistance with the poly(3,4-ethylenedioxy thiophene) (PEDOT) based electrode, 3,4-ethylenedioxy thiophene (EDOT) oligomer was introduced into the solid electrolyte. Also, to improve the lithium salt dissociation ability of the EDOT oligomer [oligo(EDOT)] electrolyte, it was blended with poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVdF). As a result, the ionic conductivity of the solid polymer electrolyte increased by introducing PVdF into the oligo (EDOT). From the result of evaluating the electrochemical properties of an all solid polymer battery, the interfacial resistance significantly decreased by introducing a thiophene based polymer to the electrode and electrolyte.

Fluorescent anionic oligo surfactants were synthesized by the condensing products of long chain alkylvinylether-maleic anhydride cooligomers and resorcinol including dye structures. Their various surface activities and dispersing action were studied on the aqueous solution. These oligo surfactants exhibited a remarkable surface tension lowering property, lower foaming and a large dispersing action for the particles of ${\alpha}-copper$ phthalocyanine blue. Further it was ascertained that the binding of oligo surfactant onto the pigment surface caused the deviation towards lower wavelengths at the maximum fluorescent intensity as compared with aqueous oligo surfactant solutions, These surface active properties of the oligo surfactants may be attributed to rigid and hydrophobic structure of dye groups, besides surface-active groups of alkylether groups and carboxylic group of the anionic oligo surfactants.

The quantum mechanical properties of a series of oligo-para-phenylenes (2-11) were characterized using DFT B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) calculations. The global minimum among the various torsional conformers of an oligo-p-phenylene is calculated to be a twist conformation. A less stable planar conformation, in which all the dihedral angles in oligo-p-phenylene are restricted to be planar, has also been calculated. The total electronic energies, normal vibrational modes, Gibbs free energies, and HOMOs and LUMOs of the two different conformations (twisted and planar) of the oligo-p-phenylenes were analyzed. The energy differences between the HOMOs and LUMOs of the substrates are in accord with the maximum absorption peaks of the experimental UV spectra of 2-6. The calculated normal vibrational modes of 2-6 were comparable with their experimental IR spectra.
Soybean Da-sik was prepared with various soybean powder processing methods (roasting, steaming, and steaming followed by roasting) and sugar types (honey, oligo-sugar), and their sensory and physical characteristics were evaluated to determine the optimum preparation method. The results were as follows: 1. For Sample 1 (roasting soybeans for 30 min at 150$^{\circ}C$ and grinding), the best appearance of Da-sik was obtained when the content of honey was adjusted to 35 g, and the color with 30 g of oligo-sugar by sensory evaluation. The optimum texture was obtained with 40 g of honey, and the optimum chewiness with 30 g of honey Overall, the optimum quality was obtained with 35 g of honey, and oligo-sugar seemed to have less influence on the quality. In case of Sample 2 (four rounds of steaming and drying for 35 min), 40 g of oligo-sugar was found to exhibit the best quality, and honey was less effective. For Sample 3 (three rounds of drying followed by 15 min roasting at 150$^{\circ}C$), the best appearance and color were obtained with 35 g and 40 g of honey, respectively. The texture was most favorable with 40 g of honey, while the chewiness was best with 30 g of honey, suggesting 35 g of honey was the optimum level for Sample 3 soybean powder than oligo-sugar. 2. The springiness, gumminess, hardness and chewiness measured by a texture analyser were highest with Sample 1 containing 30 g of honey, and the cohesiveness with 40 g of honey. 3. For color, the best brightness and yellowness were obtained with Sample 1 with 30 g of honey. The redness was highest with Sample 3 with 40 g of honey. Overall, the desirable recipe for soybean Da-sik was 35 g of honey for Sample 1 and Sample 3, and 40 g of oligo-sugar for Sample 2.
In this study, oligo(3-methylthiothiophene) was synthesized from thiophene derivative according to the method of reductive coupling using palladium catalyst. For the preparation of monomer, 3-methylthiothiophene was first synthesized through the metal-halogen exchange reaction of 3-bromothiophene with n-butyllithiuim, and the corresponding 2,5-dibromo-3-methylthiothiophene was formed by bromination. Their synthesis and characterization were determined by $^1H-NMR$ and ATR analyses. Thermal stability of the oligothiophene was monitored by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Thermal evaporation of the oligo(3-methylthiothiophene) on the substrate was attempted for OTFT applications.

In order to investigate the potential of very low molecular weight hyaluronic acid(oligo HA) as a cosmetic ingredient, we first measured its cytotoxicity in fibroblast, keratinocyte, and SIRC cell lines. For efficacy test, its moisturizing effect and penetration rate were evaluated in an artificial skin system and Caco-2 cells. Oligo HA did not show any cytotoxicity at a concentration of 300 ${\mu}g/mL$ in fibroblasts and 1,000 ${\mu}g/mL$ in keratinocytes but it showed weak proliferation. In vitro ocular test, oligo HA showed negligible cytotoxicity at the maximum concentrations used(2,000 ${\mu}g/mL$) in SIRC cells. In the test of the single and repeated cutaneous applications, oligo HA under occlusive patch did not provoke any cumulative irritation and sensitization. Oligo HA at a concentration of 0.01 % exhibited a more potent moisturizing effect than hyaluronic acid at a concentration of 0.01 %. In the permeability test using artificial skin and Caco-2 cell lines, hyaluronic acid(M.W. $1.1{\times}10^6$) was hardly observed in the down medium of the inserts. On the other hand, oligo HA(M.W. 5,000) was detected in the down medium up to 16.0 % at 6 h in Caco-2 cell culture and up to 90 % at 6 h in an artificial skin system. These results suggest that oligo HA could be useful as an active ingredient for cosmetics.
The effect of duodenal infusion with feed oligo-peptide solution on portal absorption of amino acids was investigated in poultry under unanaesthetized conditions. Four peptide solutions were used in the experiment: enzymatic hydrolysates from fish meal, soybean meal, cottonseed meal and rapeseed meal proteins with average molecular weights less than 3,000 Da and 1,000 Da, respectively. Intestinal absorptions of these oligo-peptide solutions were compared by determining the concentration of free amino acid (FAA) in portal blood after the duodenal administrations of oligo-peptide solutions. Absorptive intensity and balance were used to estimate the intestinal absorption rate of amino acids. The absorptive intensities of amino acids were highest for the fish and soybean meal oligo-peptides. The ratios of amino acids absorbed in the portal blood from fish and soybean meal oligo-peptides were more similar to the composition of the infused amino acids than that observed from the cottonseed and rapeseed meal oligo-peptides. A positive correlation was found between absorption rate and proportion of PAA in the oligo-peptides. The higher absorption rate could be contributed to the higher proportion of peptide bound amino acids (PAA). The results suggest that fish and soybean meal protein are significantly more easily hydrolyzed into oligo-peptides (p<0.05) in the gastrointestinal tracts of poultry and as such can be utilized more effectively by body tissues.
During the development of low band-gap organic materials(p-type semiconducting organic compounds) for organic solar cells, an oligomer consisting of 2,5-dioctyloxyphenylene(OP), 3-hexylthiophene(HT), and 2,3-dimethylthieno[ 3,4-b]pyrazine(TP) as repeat units, oligo(OP-HT-TP), was synthesized. The oligomer was amorphous in nature in the temperature range studied, and well soluble in common organic solvents such as chloroform. The maximum absorption wavelength was 716 nm in solid state. The band-gap and HOMO/LUMO energy levels of oligo(OP-HT-TP) were measured to be 1.20 eV and -5.27/4.04 eV, respectively. However, the absorbance of the oligomer at maximum absorption wavelength was less than one fifth of that of poly(3-hexylthiophene) which has been most frequently used in fabrication of organic solar cells.

In this study, the skin-improving effect was investigated through the oral intake of DuOligo (51.67% lactulose and 15.8% galactooligosaccharides). Thirty seven healthy women (40~60 in ages) were divided into placebo group (dextrin) and treatment group (DuOligo group), and each group was given a sample for oral intake for 8 weeks. After that, corneometer value, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), melanin index, erythema index, and wrinkle index were measured. As a result, moisture content of DuOligo group increased 38.22% than control group after 8 weeks significantly (p < 0.01). The TEWL of control group decreased by $3.39g/h/m^2$ after 8 weeks but the TEWL of DuOligo group decreased by $5.32g/h/m^2$ after 8 weeks. The melanin index of the control group was significantly increased with times, but the melanin index of the DuOligo group did not show any significant difference with times. The total wrinkles, length of total wrinkles, number of wrinkles, and depth of wrinkles significantly decreased (p < 0.05) compared to the control group. These results suggested that the applicability of DuOligo as a skin improving functional material was confirmed.
