  • Nano-sized cobalt (II) oxide nanoparticles with a high crystallinity were synthesized using thermolysis of a $Co^{2+}$-oleate precursor at 310$^{\circ}C$. The phase and morphology of as-prepared cobalt oxide nanoparticles were characterized using X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area measurements. The cobalt oxide nanoparticles were found to be spherical nanoclusters with an average diameter of approximately 200 nm, consisting of tiny nanocrystals (10-20 nm). Furthermore, the Li electroactivites of the cobalt oxide nanoparticles were investigated using cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic cycling. The cobalt oxide nanoparticles could deliver high capacities over 420 mA h $g^{-1}$ at a C/5 current rate.

  • This paper has been studied on the method of washing without any damage on wool, namely foam washing method. Effect of washing was obtained with experimental equipment manufactured by way of trial. but some deflects were found that the volume of detergent solution and blow ratio changed with time passes by. This difficulties should be improved by farther studies. The solution mixed with sodium oleate ($0.5\%$) and sodium carbonate ($0.3\%$) was found suitable for detergent solution, and under the conditions of washing temperature at $50\~60^{\circ}C$ and washing time for 5 minutes, the washing effect was obtained good. Desoaping treatment with $Na_2CO_3$ solution after washing might be thought to be necessary, and from the scanning electron micrographs (SEM), no damage on wool and wool sureface washed was, observed. From the results of this study foam washing of wool may be expected to be very effective.

  • A new and simple method has been developed to synthesize highly crystalline and monodisperse maghemite (γ-Fe₂O₃) and zirconia (ZrO₂) nanocristallites. High temperature aging of metal-surfactant complex was founded to generate monodisperse nanoparticles, wherein the nuclei were prepared by the thermal decomposition of iron-oleate complex in case of iron oxide and nonhydrolytic sol-gel reaction in case of zirconia respectively. By varying the experimental conditions, in other words concentration of surfactants, kind of metal precursor, reaction temperature and so on, the diameter of spherical nanoparticles could be controlled at various size. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by electron diffraction, X-ray diffraction, and low- and high-resolution transmission electron microscope.

  • Purpose : Phospholipase D (PLD) catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphatidylcholine to phosphatidic acid (PA) and choline. Recently, PLD has been drawing much attentions and considered to be associated with cancer Process since it is involved in cellular signal transduction. In this experiment, oleate-PLD activities were measured in various tissues of the living rats after whole body irradiation. Materials and Methods : The reaction mixture for the PLD assay contained $0.1\;\muCi\;1,2-di[1-^{14}C]palmitoyl$ phosphatidylcholine 0.5mM phosphatidylcholine, 5mM sodium oleate, $0.2\%$ taurodeoxycholate, 50mM HEPES buffer(pH 6.5), 10mM $CaCl_2$, and 25mM KF. phosphatidic acid, the reaction product, was separated by TLC and its radioactivity was measured with a scintillation counter. The whole body irradiation was given to the female Wistar rats via Cobalt 60 Teletherapy with field size of 10cmx loom and an exposure of 2.7Gy per minute to the total doses of 10Gy and 25Gy. Results : Among the tissues examined, PLD activity in lung was the highest one and was followed by kidney, skeletal muscle, brain, spleen, bone marrow, thymus, and liver. Upon irradiation, alteration of PLD activity was observed in thymus, spleen, lung, and bone marrow. Especially PLD activities of the spleen and thymus revealed the highest sensitivity toward $\gamma-rar$ with more than two times amplification in their activities In contrast, the PLD activity of bone marrow appears to be reduced to nearly $30\%$. Irradiation effect was hardly detected in liver which showed the lowest PLD activity. Conclusion : The PLD activities affected most sensitively by the whole-body irradiation seem to be associated with organs involved in immunity and hematopoiesis. This observation s1ron91y indicates that the PLD is closely related to the physiological function of these organs, Furthermore, radiation stress could offer an important means to explore the phenomena covering from cell Proliferation to cell death on these organs.

  • Purpose: In the study, the change of protein and lipid deposits on soft contact lens by drinking was investigated. Methods: Fifty male subjects wearing soft contact lens were surveyed whether they felt any discomfort induced by drinking or not. Further, 32 male subjects who has no ocular disease drank 190 mL alcohol. The protein and lipid deposits on soft contact lens (etafilcon A material) of subjects were measured after 4 hours later and compared with those of non-drinking subject. Results: When subjects drink alcohol with soft contact lens on, 58% of subjects answered they experienced the change of lens awareness such as stiffness, blurry sight, dryness and so on. The protein deposit on soft contact lens increased an average of $59.3{\mu}g/lens$ by drinking and the case of more than double in protein deposit was reached in 9 eyes. However, the protein deposited on soft contact lens was lysozyme which was unchanged by drinking. The amounts of cholesterol and methyl oleate after drinking were 85.5% (p=0.25) and 52.6% (p=0.002) of non-drinking's indicating some change of lipid deposit on soft contact lens by drinking. Conclusions: The results showed the composition of protein and lipid deposited on soft contact lens was changed due to drinking. Thus, it is suggested that wearing soft contact lens when drinking might be one of the reasons to feel discomfort.

  • The precipitate flotation using $La(OH)_3$ as a coprecipitant was studied for the simultaneous determination of trace three elements in a sea water. Several experimental conditions such as pH, coprecipitant and surfactant were investigated with an artificial sea water. To remove the influence of Cr(VI) the Cr(VI) was reduced to Cr(III) using $NaBH_4$ prior to the flotation. Trace amounts of Cu(II), Co(II) and total Cr in 1.0 l sea water was coprecipitated together with the precipitation of $La(OH)_3$ in the solution of pH 9.8 adjusted with 3.OM NaOH solution. The precipitate was floated by using a mixed surfactant (1 to 8 of each 0.5% ethanolic sodium oleate and sodium dodecylsulfate solution) by bubbling a nitrogen gas. The floats was separated and filtrated from the mother liquor by suction. The precipitate was dissolved in 7.0 M $HNO_3$ solution and then marked to 25.0 ml with a deionized water. These elements were determined by graphite fumace atomic absorption spectrophotometry. This method was applied to determine the elements in the sea water of the Eastern and Western coasts. And the recoveries were over 90.0% in the samples into which given amounts of the analyte elements were spiked.
