미국 산업구조의 변화가 고령 남성의 고용에 미친 영향: 1880~1940 (Changing Industrial Structure and Employment of Older Males in the United States: 1880~1940)

  • 본 논문은 고령 노동자에 대한 퇴직의 압력이 직종별로 어떻게 달랐으며 그러한 차이가 시간에 따라 어떻게 변화했는지를 살펴봄으로써 산업화 시기 미국 고령남성의 고용상의 지위 변화를 분석하였다. 직종에 따른 퇴직확률을 비교한 회귀분석 결과는 경제적 지위와 근로조건이 우월한 직종에 고용되어 있던 고령 노동자들의 퇴직확률이 더 낮았다는 사실을 보여준다. 이 결과는 이미 20세기 초부터 은퇴 행위가 기본적으로 자발적인 것이었다는 최근의 견해를 반박하는 것이다. 장기실업의 상대적인 비율에 기초하여 측정한 노령화에 따른 노동시장에서의 불이익은 숙련공, 조립공, 판매직 등의 직업군에서 컸던 것으로 나타났다. 반면 농민과 관리 및 전문직 종사자는 고령화에 따른 고용상의 불리함이 상대적으로 적었던 것으로 보인다. 1880년에서 1940년 사이에 발생한 직업구조의 변화 패턴을 살펴보면, 산업화와 함께 노년기의 퇴직압력이 상대적으로 강했던 산업들의 비중이 커졌다는 것을 알 수 있다.

노인요양기관별 서비스 유형과 종사자의 업무분석 (Service Program and Job Description of Workers in Long-term Care Facilities for Older Adults)

  • Purpose: Long-term care facilities have a responsibility to provide care service that enables residents to maintain their maximal functional capacity and quality of life. Also their needs must be reflected to the service programs. In oder to provide an adequate service, we should assess the elderly's physical, psychological and social health status and the need. In addition to this, the long-term care facilities must be defined clearly by the type of services. This study would contribute to conduct appropriate services in public long-term care policy for the older population in the future. This study would provide informations of long-term care facilities' services and older persons' needs for long-term care. Method: To achieve this objectives, this paper investigates the types, service programs of long-term care institutes and job descriptions of workers. The subjects were consisted of 150 long-term care institutes. 150 institutes of long-term care facilities were drawn from all over the country by a nonrandom, convenience sampling. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, $x^2$-test using SPSS program. The instruments of this study were self-reported questionnaires for long-term care institutes. The data were collected from March 1, 2004 to may 31, 2004. Results: Service programs of long-term care institutes were not enough for residents' demands. The job descriptions among nurse, social worker and physical therapist were not clearly defined. The nurse's main role was medication and checking vital sign(49.7%), that of social worker's was observation and supervising (31.2%). The most significant problems were lacking of diverse service programs for residents. Conclusion: Considering these findings and conclusion, the needs of long-term care services should be provided by individual physical and psychological level. And the professional manpower for elderly should be educated in multi disciplines.

사무직 남성 직장인의 연령별 식습관과 건강기능식품에 대한 인식 및 섭취 실태 (Dietary Habits and the Perception and Intake of Health Functional Foods in Male Office Workers by Age)

  • To investigate male office workers' dietary habits and their perception and intake of health functional foods, 234 male employees were surveyed by questionnaire. The results were categorized into three age groups: under 35 years, 35 and 45 years, and over 45 years. The over 45 years group had significantly better dietary habits than the others (p<0.05). The most common reason for skipping breakfast was lack of time. Frequency of drinking alcohol was higher in the older group, where tiredness after drinking was lower in the younger group. The perception score of health functional foods was highest in the over 45 years group. Perception of health functional foods was more positive as the age of the groups increased (p<0.01). The number of health functional foods consumed, duration of intake, and beneficial health effects were higher in older groups. Although older people are more concerned about health than relatively younger people, they did not necessarily have reduced the amounts of smoking and drinking. Instead, they simply showed higher intakes of health functional foods to prevent and cure disease and improve their health. Therefore, older people need to receive education about their dietary and living habits instead of simply eating health functional foods. It is necessary to provide correct information about health functional foods by nutritional education.

종사상 지위별 음식 배달 종사자의 이륜차 산업재해 특성 분석 (Characteristic Analysis of Occupational Motorcycle Accidents for Food Delivery Workers by Employment Status)

  • This study analyzes the characteristics of occupational accidents of food delivery via motorcycle in terms of accident probability and work-days. Depending on their employment status, food-delivery workers were divided into "employed" workers (who work for restaurants) and "special-type" workers (who work for delivery platforms). Collected data include occupational accident-information during the last two years (1,468 cases for employed workers and 4,899 cases for special-type workers) and their risk information such as age, work experience, accident location, season of the accident, and weather conditions. The study finds that special-type workers had a significantly higher accident probability for the younger age group (80.8%), while employed workers had more accidents in both 20's or younger (34.9%) and 50's or older (25.4%). The number of work-days-lost was higher for special-type workers with less work experience, and it decreased with increasing work experience. Moreover, the chance for accidents was higher at night time (55%) than for day time (45%) for special-type workers as well as for employed workers. The number of work-days-lost was higher in foreign workers (180.79 days) than in Korean workers (121.44 days). Accident probability (30.7%) and work-days-lost (136.2 days) was higher in winter than in other seasons. In addition, accidents-per-day was higher on snowy days (12.7 cases per day) than rainy (8.1) and windy days (7.1). In addition, it was found that deadly accidents mainly caused injuries to face, head, and chest, while non-deadly accidents affected mainly the legs and feet. This study enables the development of better policies to prevent accidents of food delivery workers.

  • 고용노동부 자료에 의하면 최근 건설 현장에서 발생 되는 사고는 대부분 신규 근로자, 외국인 근로자, 고령 근로자 등 취약근로자에서 일어나고 있다. 이러한 취약근로자들은 건설 현장의 특성상 현장에 존재하고 있는 많은 위험에 대한 인지력 부족 때문에 사고로 이어지는 경우가 많다. 따라서 현장에서 발생 되는 사고를 줄이기 위해서는 취약근로자에 관한 관심과 관리가 필요하다. 본 연구는 IPA 분석을 통해서 취약근로자에 대한 안전의식수준, 안전관리 우선순위을 파악하고자 하였다. 신규근로자는 현장에 이른 시일 내에 적응할 수 있도록 해야 하며 외국인 근로자의 경우 언어소통 문제로 수시확인이 필요한 것으로 조사되었다. 고령 근로자의 경우 건강 상태를 점검해야 하며 정해진 업무 이외에 다른 업무를 수행하고 있는지를 확인하는 것이 필요한 것으로 분석되었다.

The Association Between Long Working Hours and Infertility

  • Background: This study aimed to investigate whether working long hours was related to infertility among female Korean workers, while taking age into consideration. Methods: We used data from the 2018 National Survey on Fertility and Family Health and Welfare in Korea that is a cross-sectional, nationally representative, and population-based survey. Infertility was defined as women who were not pregnant after regular unprotected intercourse for a year. Working long hours was classified as ≥52 hours, and subgroups as per age were classified on the basis of being younger or older than 40 years of age. Differences in infertility risk between the long working hour group and none were estimated in crude and fully adjusted logistic regression models with age-group stratification. Results: Of 5,909 Korean female workers, the crude and adjusted odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) of infertility for working long hours were 1.295 (0.948-1.737) and 1.303 (0.921-1.809), respectively. In the subgroup of patients below 40 years of age, the crude and adjusted odds ratios (95% confidence interval) were 1.957 (1.216-3.039) and 1.921 (1.144-3.120), whereas those aged 40 years or older had 0.994 (0.647-1.471) and 0.939 (0.560-1.501), respectively. The weighted prevalence of infertility increased as weekly working hours increased only for the younger than 40-year subgroup. Conclusions: Infertility is associated with working long hours, especially in young-aged workers. Thus, the working schedule must be structured to better suit young female workers.

노인맞춤돌봄 전담사회복지사의 업무적응에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Adaptation of Social Workers Dedicated to Individualized Support Service for Older Adults)

  • 노인맞춤돌봄서비스 제도의 수행인력인 전담사회복지사의 업무 적응 과정을 살펴보고, 업무적응을 위한 요인을 파악하고자 전담사회복지사 4명을 대상으로 귀납적 내용분석이라는 질적연구를 수행하였다. 그 결과, 9개의 상위범주와 25개의 하위범주, 56개의 개념화가 도출되었다. 이직에 대한 다양한 결심과 돌봄이라는 새로운 분야에 대한 기대로 전담사회복지사가 되었지만 제도의 체계적인 행정절차, 조직 내의 인간관계, 개인적인 성향으로 인해 적응에 어려움을 겪었다. 스트레스와 순응의 시간을 겪으며 기관 차원의 지지와 대상자, 동료 등의 주변인으로부터 정서적 지지를 통해 업무 적응에 도움을 받았다. 그러나 노인맞춤돌봄제도의 정책적 한계로 인하여 동료들의 잦은 이직, 대상자에 집중할 수 없는 환경, 계약직에 대한 지속적인 고민을 하였다. 본 연구는 전담사회복지사의 실무자 관점에서 새로운 정책과 특수한 근로체계에 대하여 탐색하여 전담사회복지사의 업무 적응에 대한 정책적 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다.

  • This study was designed to search for the direction to develop housing service which assists the older people to live independently in their community and provides the systematization of community care. The subjects of the research include 533 older people between the age of 60 to 79 residing in Seoul and 84 welfare officials at a dong(in)-office and 67 social workers working at comprehensive social welfare institutions. The results were as follows: Both demanders and deliverers recognized that housing service for older people was necessary for community care, and, in particular, the deliverers had higher degree of necessity as people charged in welfare service. The most needed service was community alarm service which currently is proceeded partially for low-income and living-alone olders. It needed to expand the scope of the people to be served. It appeared that the need for inside safety measures rather than for housing space or structural problems. It requires less effort and cost for those who need simple repair, such as safety grips or slippery protection, and safety checks. Among financial support services, the need for tax benefits appeared the most necessary service for the older people. It suggested that more 'direct' financial support service is needed for the elderly people.

Citizen Science approach and Datification: Pilot Study on Factors Influencing the Dementia among Older Adults

  • This pilot study examined the contribution of citizen science approach to the datification of factors influencing the progress of cognitive health of the older adults. Newspapers were reviewed and FGIs of field workers at a Day Care Center gathered relevant data from citizen. Two questions were put forward; whether new factors are drawn from citizen knowledge; if yes, whether they represent a new type of data. 'Aesal', personality of the older adults with dementia is noted as a new dementia affecting factor. The data on personality also present a new challenge for scientific measurement. The relationship between personality or psychology of the older adults and the risk of getting dementia has been a research field for a long time, yet the impact of personality on the progress of dementia has not been examined scientifically. Because of communication difficulties with the older adults with dementia, new types of indicators and new ways of measurements thus need to be developed.

A Study on Factors Affecting Work Ability in Korean Workers

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate Korean workers' work ability and to identify its contributing factors. Background: In order for Korea to overcome the phenomena of becoming an aged society, older adults must participate in the workforce to balance out the population; workers' work ability must also be maintained. In addition, influential factors in employees' capabilities and degrees of importance thereof should be identified in advance to maintain work ability. Method: The Work Ability Index (WAI) questionnaire was completed by 5,708 Korean workers. Survey questionnaire consisted items of current work ability, physical and mental demands of the job, numbers of diseases, work impairment due to diseases, sick leaves, work ability in 2 years and mental resources. Results: Results indicated that work ability and length of service increased with age. It was also found that employees in administrative positions had greater work ability than site workers, workers directly managed by a supervisor had greater work ability than workers in cooperative firms, and workers who performed intellectual tasks had greater work ability than workers who performed physical labor. Job stress was additionally observed to contribute towards overall work ability. And musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) were found to negatively affect work ability. Conclusion: The strongest determining factors in the work ability of Korean workers were stress level and mental state. Therefore, when the WAI is used to assess Korean workers, the weighting of WAI items pertaining to physical and mental abilities should be adjusted accordingly to account for these factors. Application: The result is expected to suggest that workers maintain work ability in an aged society.
