  • Observing the morphology of the incisal edges, the time of the loss of mamelon, the decrement rate of the mamelon and the increment rate of the flat edges in the lower incisors among 576 Korean from 7 to 16 years old, the author obtained the following results; 1) The morphology of the incisal edges of the lower incisors immediately after completing eruption is as follows; The lower central incisors show that three nodule is around 65%, flat edge is around 27%, two nodule is around 7% and the central prominence of the incisal edge is 2% The lower lateral incisors show that three nodule is around 23%, flat edge is 24.5%, two nodule is 4 to 12% and the central prominence of the incisal edges around 44%. 2) The loss of mamelon may start at the age of 10. 3) The decrement rate of the mamelon beyond 12 years old is above 80% in the lower central incisors and 70% in the lower lateral incisors. 4) The increment rate of the flat edges beyond 11 years old is above 170% in the lower central incisors and 30% in the lower lateral incisors. 5) None of significant differences are found between right and left sides.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the changes in seasonal bioactive components of 4 and 6 years old fresh ginseng (Panax ginseng) and to provide basic information on the development of functional food using fresh ginseng. Seasonal changes were investigated by ginseng saponin analysis using HPLC method and acidic polysaccharides by carbazole sulfuric acid method. Total saponins showed the highest content of fresh ginseng collected in May, followed by March, July, and September. Fresh ginseng collected in May showed 2.5 times (4 years old) - 3.0 times (6 years old) higher than fresh ginseng collected in September. Acidic polysaccharides showed high content of fresh ginseng collected in March and September, and low content of fresh ginseng collected in May and July. From these results, the fresh ginseng collected in May can develop high concentrations of saponin. On the other hand, fresh ginseng collected in March and September is thought to be able to develop high concentration products of acidic polysaccharides.

  • Non-lymphoid mesenchymal neoplasms of salivary gland origin are rare, accounting for 1.4% of major salivary gland tumors. Of this group 30% were hemangiomas. Hemangiomas are the most common benign tumors in children, but are rare in old ages. 90% of hemangiomas arise in the first three decades of life. Hemangiomas are classified as capillary(including juvenile type), cavernous, or mixed in type. Salivary gland hemangioma is more common in the parotid(90%) and extremely rare in submandibular gland. We present two adult patients, 69 and 60 years of age, who were referred for palpable mass in the parotid area and submandibular area, respectively. After surgical removal of the lesion, histopathologic examination showed characteristic feature of cavernous hemangioma. The rarity of such a lesion in these locations in old ages have prompted this case report.

  • This paper presents a new method to study the impact factor of an old bridge based on the model updating technique. Using the genetic algorithm (GA) by minimizing an objective function of the residuals between the measured and predicted responses, the bridge and vehicle coupled vibration models were updated. Based on the displacement relationship and the interaction force relationship at the contact patches, the vehicle-bridge coupled system can be established by combining the equations of motion of both the bridge and vehicles. The simulated results show that the present method can simulate precisely the response of the tested bridge; compared with the other bridge codes, the impact factor specified by the bridge code of AASHTO (LRFD) is the most conservative one, and the value of Chinese highway bridge design code (CHBDC) is the lowest; for the large majority of old bridges whose road surface conditions have deteriorated, calculating the impact factor with the bridge codes cannot ensure the reliable results.

  • Giant hydronephrosis (GH) is a rare urological entity and usually presents with more than a liter of fluid in the collecting system. It may mimic a progressive and benign abdominal cystic tumor. We report a case of GH in an 11-year-old obese boy who presented with abdominal distension and dyspnea on exercise. Hydronephrosis was caused by ureteropelvic junction obstruction, with 2,300 mL of fluid in the collecting system. Diagnostic and therapeutic features of this case are discussed, with reference to current literature.

  • Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a rare genetic disorder reported rarely in dentistry. Dental practitioners should know the features of PWS because affected patients have a variety of dental symptoms. The current report describes a case of PWS. An 18-year-old male patient presented with traumatic injuries. Initial emergency treatments were performed under sedation, and further treatments were conducted under general anesthesia. After adequate healing, periodic follow-up and dietary management according to the patient's age and nutritional phase were recommended. Dental management of PWS patients consists of active preventive measures in addition to dietary consultation according to age and nutritional phase.

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to emphasize the importance and necessity of the government's old-age preparation service by measuring the economic value of the old-age service and the policy direction and policy implications of the government's old-age preparation service project. Methods: Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) was used as an analytical method. CV methodology was used to calculate the Willingness to pay (WTP) for old-age preparation service and its value was estimated and the economic benefit of the project was estimated. Results: As a result of the analysis, the average monthly payment amount for the old service was calculated as 5,100 won, and the annual average payment amount was estimated to be 61,197.1 won. Conclusion: The present value of the benefit for 10 years with the discount rate of 5.5% is 484,651 won. Based on the value of peruser benefit, the total benefit value calculation result of the old-age preparation service considering the Willingness to pay for the next 10 years shows that the total benefit value of the old service, which occurs during the period from 2016 to 2025(10 years) was estimated at 415.1 billion won. As a result of calculating the benefit for each scenario, the present value of basic service is higher in all scenarios than the linked service.

  • The purpose for this study was to figure out the effect factors of baby boom generation' leisure and preparation for old aged on life satisfaction and moderated regression for spouse support. A survey of baby boom generation who are living in Seoul and metropolitan areas was conducted 406 collected data. The results are as follows. First, Leisure had influences on life satisfaction. Second, Preparation for old aged and independent leisure had a positive effect on life satisfaction. Third, Preparation for old aged had mediate leisure on the effect on life satisfaction. Fourth, spouse support. had moderated regression leisure on the effect on life satisfaction. Fifth, Moderated regression for spouse support. had a negative effect on life satisfaction mediated economic preparation for old aged and had a positive effect on life satisfaction mediated physical preparation for old aged.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze leisure satisfaction and leisure performance according to whether elderly people are performing their preferred leisure activities. For the analysis, we used sample from the 6th (2015) panal data as Korean Retirement and Income Study(KReIS). The results of this study were as follows. First, the total data of 4,197 elderly (2,212 young-old and 1,985 old-old) were analyzed. As a result, weekday and weekend leisure time of the old-old (7.64 hours / 7.81 hours) than the young-old (6.83 hour / 7.39 hour) was increased and resting activites (over 70% of watching TV and listening to the radio) accounted for more than 80% of the both elderly leisure activities. Leisure performance were higher in old-old who did not perform preferred leisure activities during weekdays. Leisure performance on weekends was higher in old-old regardless of whether they had preferred leisure time. Average of leisure performance was high in both groups and they responded leisure satisfaction was moderate. In the case of need for leisure change, young-old was higher than oid-old regardless of preference leisure performance and day of the week. However, the responses of the both groups are closed to those that do not want to change. Based on the results of this study, it should be practiced such as develomenting program and introduction of health management system considering leisure constraints to improve leisure satisfaction and continuance of leisure activities for young-old and old-old. We also emphasize the need for a systematic survey scale that takes into account the qualitative aspects of leisure activities as well as the subjective factors influencing leisure participation.
