  • Generally most sluice gates are closed and opened by a mechanical winch, a winch using an oil-pressure, or a winch mixing both. Because of their size and structure, they should be safely operated with more than two pulling devices helping each other. At the moment of their opening and closing, there usually occur some additional loads to the structure which cannot be exactly measurable at the stage of designing. Such additional loads can cause the sluice gate to be unbalanced and make it hard to open and close the gate, and by also overloading a winch, they can inflict a significant damage to the safety of the sluice gate. This paper explains a FDC(Force-Displacement Control) system which simultaneously considered the oil-pressure and displacement in order to evenly distribute the force and make a winch balanced at the opening and closing motion. This FDC system was implemented by means of the PID(Proportional Integral Derivative) function of XG 5000 program. It was experimented on a model of the sluice gate winch with the hydraulic oil pressure cylinder. The experiments showed that the developed FDC system made the winch of hydraulic oil pressure cylinder open and close cooperatively in spite of various external loads. Therefore the FDC system is proven effective when it is applied to a winch of sluice gate.

  • To insure the quality and safety of ground anchors, pull-out test of anchor has to be done. In the individually controlled pull-out test system, pull-out device is used to introduce the same pull-out force to individual tendon that has a different length and a deflection. That is, that device has a separate pull-out oil jack to each tendon, thus the pull-out length of each jack is not the same, but that device introduces each tendon to the same pull-out force. In this study, the in-situ pull-out tests for the compression anchors were performed and its test results were analysed and compared to the results of center hole pull-out tests. In the case of pulling out each tendon using the individually controlled pull-out test device, the pull-out forces were distributed to a individual tendon. That device is excellent one that can solve the cause of unequal pull-out forces of each tendon appearing in the manufacture process and construction of anchors, and unequal pull-out forces due to the deferent length.

  • A severe crushing injury of the chest produce a very striking syndrome referred to as traumatic asphyxia. This syndrome is characterized by bluish-red discoloration of the skin which is limited to the distribution of the valveless veins of the head and neck. And also if it is characterized by bilateral subconjunctival hemorrhages and neurological manifestations. But these clinical entities faded away progressively in a few weeks. Apporximately 90% of the patients who live for more than a few hours will recover from traumatic asphyxia when it occurs as a single entity. And so, death results from either severe associated injuries of from subsequent infection, rather than from pulmonary or cardiac insufficiency in traumatic asphyxia. We have experienced 4 cases of traumatic asphyxia with severe crushing thoracic injuries at department of the chest surgery, Captial Armed forces General Hospital during about 3 years from April 1977 to Aug. 1980. The 1st 22 year-old male was struct 2$\frac{1}{2}$ ton truck on the road and was transferred to this hospital immediately. He had taken tracheostomy due to severe dyspnea with contusion pneumonia and for removal of a large amount of bronchial secretion. The 2nd case was 23 year-old male who was got buried in a chasm. In this case, the heavy metal post tumbled over him back while at work. The 3rd case was 39 year-old male who leapt out of a window in 5th story while fire broke out in living room by oil stove heating. He had multiple rib fracture with right hemothor x and right colle's fracture and pelvic bone fracture. The last 22 year-old male was run over by a gun carriage. The wheel of this gun carriage passed over his thorax and right chin. He was brought to this hospital by helicopter. when he was first examined at emergency room, he was in semicomatose state and has pneurmomediastinum with multiple rib fracture and severe subcutaneous emphysema. As soon as he arrived, bilateral closed thoracostomy was performed and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was done. In hospital 8th weeks, chest series showed fibrothorax in right side even if chest wall stabilized. All 4 cases had multiple petechiae over their facees and chest and bilateral subconjunctival hemorrhages referred to as traumatic asphyxia. 3 cases except one case who received splenectomy, had been suffered from contusion pneumonia and had been treated with respiratory care. In these 3 cases, they had warning of impending injury before accident, and took a deep breath hold it and braces himself. And also, even if he had not impending fear in remaining one case, he had taken a deep breath and had got valsalva maneuver for pulling off the heavy metal post. Intrathoracic pressure rose suddenly and resulted to traumatic asphyxia in this situation. All these cases were recovered completely without sequelae except one fibrothorax, right.

  • The IMO has adopted emission standards through Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) that strictly prohibit the use of bunker C oil for vessels. In this study, we have adopted the turret-moored Floating LNG-Bunkering Terminal (FLBT) which is designed to receive the LNG from LNGCs and transfer it to LNG-bunkering shuttles in side-by-side moored condition. Numerical analyses were carried out using the high-order boundary-element method for four vessels at various relative distances. Mean wave drift forces were compared in an operational sea state. A model test was performed in the ocean engineering basin at the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) to verify the safety of the berthing/unberthing operation. In the model test, a jig was designed to simulate tug boats pushing or pulling the bunkering vessels, so that the friction force of the g operation was not affected. Safety depended on the environmental direction, with more stable operation possible if the heading-control function of FLBT is applied to avoid beam-sea conditions.
