  • This study was performed for the application of a high-speed centrifugal cyclone to shale gas mining process. This device uses the centrifugal force to control particles similar to typical cyclones, and the disk located inside the cyclone is forced to rotate using a motor. The pressure difference occurred during the rotating of disk. Hence, inflow rate was generated without a blower fan. In addition, flow rate increased with elevating rpm of motor. The installing the disk in multiple stages on the inner rotor increased the instantaneous disk outlet flow. Hence, the control efficiency of oil particle increased from 1.05% to 31.2%. By modifying the structure of the disk so that the air flow to the opposite direction of the cyclone, the control efficiency of oil particles increased to 81.5%. By increasing the capacity of the motor and the size of the disk, the flow rate was increased to 2.5 ㎥/min because the rpm of motor and pressure difference increased. As rpm of motor increased, the cut-off diameter (dpc) became smaller. Unlike the Lapple's equation, dpc was inversely proportional to the effective number of rotations (Ne). The control efficiency was maintained even if the concentration of oil particles increased, for this reason, the higher the oil concentration, the more particles were accumulated and controlled.

  • Increased demand of power-transformer's capacity inevitably results in an excessive temperature rise of transformer components, which in turn requires improved radiator design. In this paper, numerical simulation of the cooling performance of an ONAN-type (Oil Natural Air Natural) radiator surrounded by air was performed by using CFX. The natural convection of the air was treated with the full-model. The present parametric study considers variation of important variables that are expected to affect the cooling performance. We changed the pattern and cross-sectional area of flow passages, the fin interval, the flow rate of oil and shape of flow passages. Results show that the area of flow passage, the fin interval, the flow rate of oil and shape of flow passages considerably affect the cooling performance whereas the pattern of flow passages is not so much influential. We also found that for the case of the fin interval smaller than the basic design, the temperature drop decreases while a larger interval gives almost unchanged temperature drop, indicating that the basic design is optimal. Further, as the flow rate of oil increases, the temperature drop slowly decreases as expected. On the other hand, when the shape of flow passages are changed, temperature drop is increased, indicating that the cooling performance is enhanced thereupon.

  • It is very important to improve the durability and reliability of crankshaft because of conflicting demands for lower fuel consumption and higher power output. In this study, for the crankshaft bearing design, analyses were conducted to determine the lubrication characteristics such as oil flow rate, minimum oil film thickness, friction force and increase of oil temperature at main bearing and connecting rod bearing. Additionally, supplied oil pressure and temperature effects on the bearings were simulated to figure out lubrication characteristics on the bearings. Finally the effects of increasing the bearing width and clearance were introduced on the lubrication characteristics.

  • This paper is a basic study on volatile organic compounds(VOC) recovery system in a crude oil carrier. VOC is easily evaporated in cargo tankers during loading and transportation of crude oil, causes serious environmental contamination and a huge economic loss. An ejector system is designed to mix VOC gas into crude oil flow to reduce VOC concentration. Detail two-phase flow inside the ejector is simulated using a commercial CFD code. To verify the numerical prediction, a scale-down experiment is conducted. Instead of crude oil and VOC, water and air are used as the working fluids. Flow characteristics and main parameters are obtained by two-phase flow visualization and PIV measurements. Air volume flow rate induced by the ejector is compared with respect to the volume flow rate of water using experimental and numerical results. Overall performance of the two-phase ejector predicted by the CFD simulation agrees well with that of the experiment.

  • Influence of Velocity and Temperature on Streaming Electrification of Insulating Oil is investigated by injection method. Leakage current is increased slightly with increasing temperature in the temperature range 20 to $80^{\circ}C$ at low flow rate, however, it show a peak in the temperature 40 to $60^{\circ}C$ at high flow rate. Leakage current is also increased linearly with increasing flow rate in the flow rate range 1 - 31/min but thereafter, it is increased abruptly with increasing flow rate.

  • Experiment and analytical studies on the oil supply characteristics of scroll compressor have been presented. For a scroll compressor, oil supply system consisting of individual lubricating element such as pumps, oil passages and sliding surfaces has been modeled by equivalent electric circuit. By solving the closed network equations of the model, oil flow rates at various lubrication elements could be obtained. Total amount of the oil flow rate drawn into the shaft has been measured and compared reasonably well with the prediction by the numerical simulation.

  • In this paper, we study the characteristics of heat transfer for an insulated multi-core tube using glass wool as an insulator for the multi-core tube. By performing experiments and modeling, we examine the variations in the temperature characteristics of hydraulic oil inside the multi-core tube with atmosphere temperature, inlet temperature, and the flow rate of hydraulic oil for the insulated multi-core tube that we developed. When the minimum inlet flow rate of hydraulic oil employed within the scope of the research is 0.29 l/min, the temperature difference obtained in the experiments and numerical analysis was a maximum of $3^{\circ}C$. For a constant atmospheric temperature, as the inlet temperature of the hydraulic oil increases, the outlet temperature of the hydraulic oil will also increase, regardless of its inlet flow rate. Further, when the inlet flow rate of the hydraulic oil is more than 1.01 l/min, the effect of the atmospheric temperature on the temperature drop of the hydraulic oil is low.

  • The whole berry, pulp, and seed of sea buckthorn fruit were extracted with supercritical $CO_2$ to produce edible oils. The effects of extraction pressure, temperature, and $CO_2$ flow rate on the oil yield and extraction rate were investigated, and the fatty acid composition, tocopherol, and carotenoid contents of the oils were compared. The results showed that the extraction rate was affected by pressure, temperature, and $CO_2$ flow rate and, in general, the yield increased with a rise in any of the 3 variables. Fatty acids in the whole berry and pulp oil were dominated by monounsaturated fatty acids (>64%), followed by saturated fatty acids (about 30%). In contrast, fatty acids in the seed oil consisted mainly of polyunsaturated (>60%) and monounsaturated fatty acids (>24%). The seed oil had a slightly higher content of tocopherols, but a much lower content of carotenoids, compared with the whole berry or pulp oil.
