  • Hydropneumatic suspension unit is an important part of tracked vehicles to absorb external impact load exerted from the non-paved road and the cannon discharge. Its absorption performance is strongly influenced by both damping and spring forces of the unit. In this paper, we numerically analyze the damping characteristics of the in-arm-type hydropneumatic suspension unit (ISU) by considering four distinct dynamic modes of the ISU damper: jounce-loading, jounce-unloading, rebound-loading and rebound-unloading. The flow rate coefficients determining the oil flow rate through the damper orifice are decided with the help of independent experiments. The wheel reaction force, the flow rate at cracking and the damping energy are parametrically investigated with respect to the orifice diameter and the wheel motion frequency.

  • Swirling air flow in a horizontal round tube was experimentally studied for its visualization. The present investigation deals with swirl angle, flow visualization studies and accompanying vortex core behavior by using oil smoke and a hot wire anemometer for Re = 40,000 and 50000 at X/D = 41, 59 and 71. In the swirl air flow, a vortex core was formed at high swirl intensity along the test tube. The swirl angle and the vortex core depended on the swirl intensity along the test tube. The results of swirl angles measured by flow visualization and hot wire reasonably agree with those of previous studies.

  • A bulk curing experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of air flow reduction in the bulk barn from color fixing stage in the chemical properties of cured leaves, The air flow was controlled by reducing air velocity of a blower from 0.3m/sec to 0.2m/sec using a boltage regulator(Slidac). The bulk curing before color fixing stage was processed in the conventional curing method. Reduction of air circulation in bulk barn did not affected so much on change of the contents of the main chemical components in cured leaved, such as nicotine, total sugar, total nitrogen, petroleum ether extract, and organic acids. Only a slight increase in essential oil contents, such as solanone, damascenone, damascone, $\beta$-ionone, and megastigmatrienone isomer, could be observed in leaves cured in the reduced air flow.

  • An experimental Investigation was performed to study the characteristics of Electro-Rheological fluid flow in a horizontal rectangular tube with or without D.C electric field control. First, the microscopic behavior of the ER suspension structure between rectangular tube brass electrodes for the stationary ER nut(i and flow of the ER fluid was investigated by flow visualization. The flow of the ER fluid between fluid rectangular tube was solved experimental using the constitutive equation for a Bingham fluid. ER fluid is made silicon oil mixed with $0.2wt\%$ starch having hydrous particles. Velocity distributions of the ER fluids were obtained by particle image velocimetry measuring those of the clusters using an image processing technique.

  • A numerical study on oscillatory thermocapillary flow in half-zone has performed to understand the effect of axial rotation. 2d unsteady code is developed to observe the onset of oscillation. 2cs Silicone oil with Prandtl number of 26.5 is used as a working fluid. The critical temperature difference at onset of oscillation is investigated under the different aspect ratios and rotation modes. It is shown that the onset of oscillation is delayed when aspect ratio reduces and rotating speed increases. The oscillatory flow is strongly reduced under top rotation and co-rotation modes, while it is augmented under bottom rotation and counter-rotation modes. It is thought that interaction between return flow and bottom wall is important to explain the oscillatory flow.

  • Transient mixing states of two different fuel oils, dimethylformamide (DMF) oil and JetA1 oil, were investigated by using a color image processing and a neural network. A tank ($D{\times}H$, $310{\times}370mm$) was filled with JetA1 oil. The DMF oil was filled at a top tank, and was mixed with the JetA1 oil in the tank mixing tank via a sudden opening which was performed by nitrogen gas with 1.9 bar. An impeller was rotated with 700 rpm for mixing enhancements of the two fuel oils. To visualize the mixing state of the DMF oil with the JetA1 oil, the DMF oil was coated with Rhodamine B whose color was red. A LCD monitor was used for uniform illumination. The color changes of the DMF oil were captured by a camcoder and the images were transferred to a host computer for quantifying the information of color changes. The color images of two mixed oils were captured with the camcoder. The R, G, B color information of the captured images was used to quantify the concentration of the DMF oil. To quantify the concentration of the DMF oil in the JetA1 oil, a calibration of color-to-concentration was carried out before the main experiment was done. Transient mixing states of DMF oil with the JetA1 oil since after the sudden infiltration were quantified and characterized with the constructed visualization technique.

  • The electrorheology of the chitosan adipnate suspension in silicone oil was investigated. Chitosan adipnate suspension showed a typical ER response (Bingham flow behavior) upon application of an electric field. The shear stress for the chitosan adipnate suspension exhibited a linear dependence on the volume fraction of particles and an electric field power of 1.88. The experimental results for the chitosan adipnate suspension correlated with the conduction models and this suspension was found to be an anhydrous ER fluid.

  • The electrorheological (ER) behavior of chitosan suspension in the silicone oil was investigated. Chitosan suspension showed a typical ER response, Bingham flow behavior upon application of an electric field due to the polarizability of the branched amino group of the chitosan particles. The shear yield stress exhibited a linear dependence on the volume fraction of particles and the squared electric field. On the basis of the experimental results, chitosan suspension has been correlated with the conduction models for ER response and found to be an ER fluid.

  • A streaming current in liquid generated by flow electrification in a pipe is very hazardous and has to be reduced before the liquid is put into a storage tank, it was measured in pipe (${\Phi}$: 0.5mm, 0.8mm length: 1.5-11cm), it was increased as increasing pressure of Ar gas and appeared a peak value at 5cm of pipe length in 4m/sec of flow velocity.

  • This paper describes an Electronically-controlled Power Steering system which is developed by the modification of a conventional power steering based on so called rotary valve technology. The steering effort is influenced by the electrohydraulic flow rate control of the pressurized oil to rotary valve. The vehicle speed and the steering angular velocity are used to calculate and output a signal to proportional flow rate control valve by the Electronic Control Unit. The improvement of the steering feel was satisfactory compared with that of the original conventional power steering.
