In this research, the oil detection method and the characteristic of sensor using the selective reaction of silicone rubber in response to hydrocarbon oil will be described. As a sensing principle, the swelling property of silicone rubber in response to hydrocarbon fuel is used, also a strain gauge is used to transduce the volume change to an electrical signal. The sensor core is manufactured with a strain gauge embedded in silicone rubber by the curing process and experiments for characteristics of sensor core with various oils were carried out. It is shown that the sensor core can be used as an oil spill detection sensor. Also, for the application to the sea area, a buoy type sensor platform is integrated with a sensor core and a strain amplifier and it is tested in the simulated oil spill condition. In this study, it is proven that the integrated sensor can be used for the detection of various oils.
This study was designed to find out the effects of $\omega$-3 and $\omega$-6 polyunsaturated and saturated fatty acid from prenatal to growing period on the brain growth and behavioral development of rats. Rats(Sprague-Dawley strain) were fed experimental diets-fish oil, corn oil or beef tallow-with different contents of $\omega$-3 and $\omega$-6 fatty acids throughout the prenatal and lactational period and up to 10 weeks of age. DNA and RNA concentration of rat brain were determined at 0, 3, 6 weeks of age and choline and acetylcholine concentrations were analyzed at 10 weeks of age. When the rats were 7 weeks of age, position reversional test in a Y-shaped water maze for 4 weeks was measured. The experimental results obtained are summarized as follows. Food intakes were significantly lower in fish oil group and body weight gain was low in the group fed beef tallow and the groups fed fish oil and corn oil were somewhat good. Food efficiency ratio was not significantly different among the groups. Brain weight was not affected by the fatty acid composition of experimental diets and DNA and RNA concentration of the rat brain were consistently maintained at the same level. It was not different significantly among the dietary groups in the DNA and RNA concentrations of the rat brain during the experimental period. The acetylcholine concentration in the fish oil group was somewhat higher than the other groups. The position reversional test in a Y-shaped water maze showed a significant difference the score of test among the experimental groups. The score of the rats fed the fish oil diet was significantly higher than the other groups and the concentration of acetylcholine in brain were too. Therefore the correlatin between the Y-shaped water maze test score and the acetylcholine concentratin in the brain was found. Above finding support the content that dietary fatty acid composition does not affect to the brain cell number and cell size but the behavior development is influenced. Therefore, the improvement of behavior development is required the effective usage of finny tribe.

Purpose: Performances of a tractor diesel engine fueled by three different animal fats biodiesels were evaluated comparing with light oil tractor in terms of power, fuel consumption rate, exhaust gases, particulate matter amount and field work capacity. Methods: Animal fats based on pig biodiesel were manufactured manually and tested for its engine performance in the tractor diesel engine and fuel adoptability in the field works. Four different fuels, three different content of biodiesel (BD20, BD50, BD100) and light oil, were prepared and tested in the four strokes diesel engine. Power output, fuel consumption rate and exhaust gases of the four fuels in the diesel engine were compared and discussed. Results: Power output of light oil engine was the greatest showing 5.3% difference between light oil and BD100, but 0.37% better power than BD20 engine power. Less exhaust gases of $CO_2$, CO, $NO_X$ and THC were produced from animal fats biodiesel than light oil, which confirmed that biodiesel is environmental friendly fuel. For fuel adoptability in the tractor, biodiesel engine tractor showed its fuel competitiveness comparing with light oil for tractor works in the faddy field. Conclusions: With four different fuel types of animal-fats biodiesel, performances of a four cylinder diesel engine for tractor were evaluated in terms of power, exhaust gases, particulate matters (PM) and field work capacity. No significant differences observed in the engine performances including power output and exhaust gases emission rate. No significant power difference observed between the various fuels including light oil on the engine running, however, amounts of noxious exhaust gases including $CO_2$ and $NO_X$ decreased as biodiesel content increased in the fuels. Field performances of animal-fats biodiesel tractor were investigated by conducting plowing and rotary operation in the field. Tilling and rotary performance of light oil tractor and BD20 tractor in the field were compared, in which about 10% travelling speed difference on both operations were monitored that showed light oil tractor was superior to BD20 tractor by 10%. Animal-fats can be an alternative fuel source replacing light oil for agricultural machinery and an environmental friendly fuel to nature.
Bioheavy oil, which is expanding its range of use as an alternative fuel to reduce environmental pollutant emissions, has a lot of difficulty in combustion due to its low emission of pollutants such as nitrogen oxide (NOx) and sulfur oxide (SOx), while its low dissipation and high oxygen content in fuel. many studies have been conducted on change in characteristics by mixing rate combustion characteristics and combustion reactions, but there have been no specific and effective studies on the composition of control system, optimization of control, development of logic for mixing and burning, minimizing environmental pollutantants discharge. In this study, we intend to consider systemmatic and empirical considerations on the composition, logic development, solve the problem of manual switching of bioler master due to excessive oxygen content and tuning of the control system for optimal combustion of bioheavy oil.

The contents of sterols and stanols in vegetable oils and mist oil were analyzed by gas chromatography using a capillary column. The total sterol contents showed high values of 0.67~0.89g/100g in corn oil, rice bran oil, red pepper seed oil and sesame oil. Mist oil, a byproduct of soybean oil manufacture, was a suitable raw material for the production of stanol since it showed high sterol content (10.2g/100g). In the hydrogenation of sterol contained in mist oil using Pd catalyst, the effects saponification of oil were examined. The conversion of sterol to stanol was improved by a factor of 4~5 through saponification of oil, compared to the reaction without saponification.
The purpose of this study is to develop a sensing system to measure the capacitance of a pre-developed engine oil deterioration detection sensor integrated with an oil filter. To measure the capacitance of engine oil in the sensor, it is used the way measuring the electric charging time in a capacitor by impressing DC volt. This method has merits on cost and signal stability. The measured capacitance is compensated by comparison with the one measured by an impedance analyzer. Also, using the dielectric constant gained by an impedance analyzer, the calculating equation of the dielectric constant of engine oil related with the currently developed sensor is decided. Finally, the degradation degree of engine oil is estimated according to the change rate of dielectric constant between green oil and used oil. The newly developed personal controller is to control a series of the processes.
The observed the toxic effect of WSF (Water Soluble Fraction) on development time, development rate, attachment rate, survival rate and growth of the larva during the early stage of the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas. The time required early juvenile from the fertilized eggs exposed to crude oil (WSF) was about 13 hours in control group. But that of the crude oil dose group takes 12 hours, with shorter compared to control group. Development and attachment rate of the oyster significantly higher in 0.4 and 0.8 mg/L WSF compared to control group (P<0.05) but significantly lower more than 1.6 mg/L WSF (P<0.05). Survival rate of the oyster larva significantly higher in 0.4 and 0.8 mg/L WSF compared to control group (P<0.05) but significantly lower more than 2.4 mg/L WSF (P<0.05). Survival rate of spot showed no significantly difference compared to control group (P>0.05). Shell growth of the oyster were significantly lower more than 1.6 mg/L WSF compared control group (P<0.05). The effect concentration of crude oil showed that more 0.4 mg/L in development and attachment rate and more 1.6 mg/L in growth. Also, chronic exposure of crude oil even effect also in low concentration.

The discharge of oily wastewater into water bodies and soil poses a serious hazard to the environment and public health. Various conventional techniques have been employed to treat oil-water mixtures and emulsions; Unfortunately, these approaches are frequently expensive, time-consuming, and unsatisfactory outcomes. Porous materials and adsorbents are commonly used for purification, but their use is limited by low separation efficiencies and the risk of secondary contamination. Recent advancements in nanotechnology have driven the development of innovative materials and technologies for oil-contaminated wastewater treatment. Nanomaterials can offer enhanced oil-water separation properties due to their high surface area and tunable surface chemistry. The fabrication of nanofiber membranes with precise pore sizes and surface properties can further improve separation efficiency. Notably, novel technologies have emerged utilizing nanomaterials with special surface wetting properties, such as superhydrophobicity, to selectively separate oil from oil-water mixtures or emulsions. These special wetting surfaces are promising for high-efficiency oil separation in emulsions and allow the use of materials with relatively large pores, enhancing throughput and separation efficiency. In this study, we introduce a facile and scalable method for fabrication of superhydrophobic-superoleophilic felt fabrics for oil/water mixture and emulsion separation. AlN nanopowders are hydrolyzed to create the desired microstructures, which firmly adhere to the fabric surface without the need for a binder resin, enabling specialized wetting properties. This approach is applicable regardless of the material's size and shape, enabling efficient separation of oil and water from oil-water mixtures and emulsions. The oil-water separation materials proposed in this study exhibit low cost, high scalability, and efficiency, demonstrating their potential for broad industrial applications.

Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) oil is mostly refined oil (RO). However, with increasing interest in health, the consumption of cold-pressed oil (CPO) without chemical refining is increasing in Korea. In this study, quality characteristics of CPO from rapeseed varieties 'Jungmo7001', 'Jungmo7002', 'Jungmo7003', and 'Yuryeo' were evaluated and compared with RO, a commercial product. L-value and a-value were lower while b-value was significantly higher for CPO than those for RO. Analysis of fatty acid compositions of each oil revealed that CPO from 'Yuryeo' contained the highest oleic acid at 74%. Analyses of contents of bioactive compounds in CPOs and RO revealed that contents of tocopherol, 𝛽-carotene, and canolol were the highest in CPOs from 'Jungmo7003', 'Jungmo7002', and 'Jungmo7001' at 55.5, 0.3, and 0.2 mg/100 g, respectively. In addition, CPOs contained higher contents of bioactive compounds than RO, suggesting that CPO could provide health benefits. The induction period of CPOs measured using Rancimat were 9~52% longer than that for RO, indicating that CPOs had a higher oxidative stability under given conditions. These results could be used to obtain basic data on quality of domestic rapeseed varieties.
The exploration of genes which expressions are changed by exposure to ecotoxicants or pollutants can provide the important information about the reaction mechanisms in the body as well as adaptation to exterior stimulus or environmental changes. Also they can be developed as biomarkers for the detection of environmental pollution. Differential display polymerase chain reaction (DD-PCR) technique has been usefully used to hunt the clones which expressions are up-regulated or down-regulated by exterior changes and this study aimed to search for those clones in diesel oil-exposed rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli) using DD-PCR. The RNA isolated from liver of 20 ppb diesel oil-exposed rockfish was used for screening of the differentially displayed genes and total 44 differentially expressed genes (DEG) are detected then their nucleotide sequences were analyzed. The present data provided the general information about the effect of diesel oil contamination on marine organism and further more the primary step in development of new biomarkers for marine environmental pollution or ecotoxicological stresses.
