Due to high oil prices and global warming problems, researching an alternative energy source and decreasing the energy usage will be the key in the future. Unlike other alternative energy sources, geothermal energy is less dependent on the surrounding environment. Geothermal energy is the ideal energy source for buildings due to the simple and space saving installation. The system is semi permanent once it is installed and this will help reduce the energy usage in controlling the climate in buildings. Geothermal energy does not emit carbon dioxide and other gases that are harmful to the environment. Therefore geothermal energy will be the key in solving high oil prices and a decrease in fossil fuels by applying the geothermal energy system to detached house to counter future energy crisis.
Scanning electron microscopy / energy dispersive X-ray analyzer(SEM/EDX) has played an important role for evaluation the source of atmospheric particle because it is a powerful tool for characterizing individual particles. The SEM/EDX system provides various physical parameters like optical diameter, as well as chemical information for a particle-by-particle basis. The purpose of the study was to classify individual particle emitted from the point sources based on clustering analysis and physico-chemical analysis by SEM/EDX. The total of 490 individual particle were analyzed at 8 point sources including coal-fired power plant, incinerator, H-C oil boiler, and metal manufacturing industry. The main components were Si and AI in the coal-fired power plant, Cl and Na in the domestic waste Incinerator, S in the H-C oil boiler and S and Fe in the metal manufactory industry, respectively.
Water mist fire suppression system is environmental system and needs a flange pump to jet water. In this research, high pressure Nitrogen cylinder is used as a pressurizing source instead of flange pump, and also we tried to find the possibility of using compressed Nitrogen as a fire suppression agent. As a result, it was possible to design water mist fire suppression system with Nitrogen cylinder and suppress oil fire effectively. With DK1.58 nozzle, the optimum Nitrogen pressure was 80bar and the pressure was stable during water mist spray. However, jet of Nitrogen was not effective fire suppression agent when it was dually used with water mist because water mist has blown away, and it is efficient way to use compressed Nitrogen as a pressurizing source only.

Supplementation with rice oil and its major components (oleic acid and linoleic acid) was found to have a significant influence on cephalosporin C (CPC) production and cell growth by A. chrysogenum M35 in shake flask cultures. Five percent (v/v) rice oil had the most robust effect and 5% (v/v) oleic acid was the second most efficient on cell growth, whereas 3% (v/v) linoleic acid was found to be optimal for CPC production. Rice oil, oleic acid, and linoleic acid also significantly improved the rates of glucose consumption. When glucose was almost consumed, CPC production was initiated and, on the addition of rice oil, lipase activity increased steadily to 1.56 U/ml for 4 days. These results suggest that rice oil and fatty acids are used as carbon source to produce CPC by A. chrysogenum M35. Moreover, a mixture, composed of 40% (v/v) oleic acid and 60% (v/v) linoleic acid, had the strongest stimulatory effect on CPC production, due to a synergistic effect of the two fatty acids. Consequently, the maximum CPC titer (7.44 g/l) was improved about 4.5-fold.
This paper dealt with the measurement and analysis of electromagnetic waves radiated from a partial discharge (PD) source in insulation oil to apply condition monitoring of oil-immersed transformers. Two types of narrow-band monopole antennas with the resonant frequency of a 500 MHz and a 1 GHz were designed and fabricated. Also, a needle-plane electrode system was manufactured to simulate PDs and the curvature radius of the needle is 10 ${\mu}m$ and the diameter of the plane is 60 mm. Electromagnetic wave was measured by the PD measurement system with the monopole antennas. Detection sensitivity of the fabricated antenna was compared for the same PD magnitude; 620 $mV_{peak}$ for the 500 MHz antenna and 960 $mV_{peak}$ for the 1 GHz antenna to the PD magnitude of 74 pC. Consequently, the 1 GHz monopole antenna is more effective to detect PDs in oil-immersed transformers.
Fifty hydrocarbon-metabolizing microorganisms were isolated from soil samples polluted by the petroleum oils in Gamman-dong, Busan. Among them, strain 2-3A, showing strong emulsification activity, was selected by oil film-collapsing method. This bacterium was identified as Acinetobacter sp. and designated as Acinetobacter sp. 2-3A. The optimum temperature and pH on the growth of Acinetobacter sp. 2-3A were $25^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0, respectively. The carbon and nitrogen sources for the most effective emulsification activity were 3.0% olive oil and 0.5% peptone, respectively. The 0.15% potassium phosphate was the most effective emulsification activity as a phosphate source. The optimum emulsification activity condition was $20^{\circ}C$, pH 7.0, and 2.0% NaCl. The optimum time for the best production of biosurfactant was 27 hrs. The emulsification stability was maintained at the temperature range from $4^{\circ}C$ to $100^{\circ}C$, pH range from 6.0 to 10.0, and NaCl range from 0% to 10%. For the oil resolvability of the biosurfactant, the residual oils were investigated by gas chromatography. As a result, it was verified that the biosurfactant decreased and decomposed crude oils from $_nC_{10}$ to $_nC_{32}$.
The need of heavy and unconventional crude oil as an energy source is increasing day by day, so does the importance of petroleomics: the pursuit of detailed knowledge of heavy crude oil. Crude oil needs techniques with ultra-high resolving capabilities to resolve its complex characteristics. Therefore, ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry represented by Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS) has been successfully applied to the study of heavy and unconventional crude oils. The analysis of crude oil with high resolution mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS) has pushed analysis to the limits of instrumental and methodological capabilities. Each high-resolution mass spectrum of crude oil may routinely contain over 50,000 peaks. To visualize and effectively study the large amount of data sets is not trivial. Therefore, data processing and visualization methods such as Kendrick mass defect and van Krevelen analyses and statistical analyses have played an important role. In this regard, it will not be an overstatement to say that the success of FT-ICR MS to the study of crude oil has been critically dependent on data processing methods. Therefore, this review offers introduction to peotroleomic data interpretation methods.
Four adult rams ($22.25{\pm}0.90kg$) were used in a $4{\times}4$ latin square design to evaluate the rations without ($T_1$) or with supplementation of sunflower acid oil at 5 ($T_2$), 10 ($T_3$) or calcium soap at 10% of dietary DM ($T_4$) on nutrient digestibility and balances of nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus. The basal ration contained 60 parts Brazilian napier grass hay and 40 parts concentrate mixture. The DM, CF, NDF and ADF digestibilities and nitrogen retention (g/d) decreased (p<0.01) by inclusion of sunflower acid oil at 5% of dietary DM. In addition, depression (p<0.01) in digestibilities of CP, nitrogen free extract (NFE), cellulose, hemicellulose, retention of calcium and phosphorus (g/d) were also observed with increasing the level of sunflower acid oil to 10% of dietary DM. The EE digestibility, total digestible nutrients (TDN) content and calcium retention (g/d) were significantly higher (p<0.01) for ration supplemented with calcium soap. It is concluded that sunflower acid oil supplementation in free form as low as 5% of dietary DM is deleterious to fibre digestion in sheep while as calcium soap, it can be fed up to 10% of dietary DM as an energy source without any adverse effect.
Limited and nonlimited emissions of scooters were analysed during several annual research programs of the Swiss Agency of Environment Forests and Landscape(SAEFL, BUWAL). Small scooters, which are very much used in the congested centers of several cities are a remarkable source of air pollution. Therefore every effort to reduce the emissions is an important contribution to improve the air quality in urban centers. In the present work detailed investigations of particle emissions of different 2-stroke scooters with direct injection and with carburetor were performed. The nanoparticulate emissions with different lube oils and fuels were measured by means of SMPS, (CPC) and NanoMet. Also the particle mass emission(PM) was measured with the same method as for Diesel engines. It can be stated, that the oil and fuel quality have a considerable influence on the particle emissions, which are mainly oil condensates. The engine technology influences the (nano)particle emissions by: mixture preparation, mixture tuning, oil consumption, postoxidation, quality, condition and temperature of the catalyst. Since the particulate emission of the 2-S consists mainly of lube oil condensates the minimization of oil consumption stays always an important goal.
