  • The image process for image enhancement applies differently the same algorithm for each application. So, the optimized value for each application is required. In this paper, the X-ray medical image using a high-pass filter was improved edges. The result image was improved edge and the contrast of flat area using a constant multiplier and offset. Therefore, the high-frequency emphasis filter optimized for medical image is required. These optimized values are the gaussian high-pass filter, the distance of cutoff frequency=0.05 and offset=0.5. From the result of optimaized simulation, The proposed method has enhanced contrast and edge of the image in the contrast of existing mothods.

  • Transmission line is exposed to a large area, and then faults are likely to occur than the other component of power system. When a fault occurs on a transmission line, fault locator helps fast recovery of power supply on power system. This paper deals with the design of a digital fault locator for improvement accuracy of the fault distance estimation and a fault occurrence position for transmission line. The algorithm of a fault locator uses a DC offset removal filter and DFT filter. The algorithm utilizes a fault data of GPS time synchronized. The computed fault information is transmitted to the other side substation through communication. The digital fault locator includes MPU module, ADPU module, SIU module, and a power module. The MMI firmware and software of the fault locator was implemented.

  • The behavior of two-level soil-reinforced segmental retaining wall was examined using the finite element analysis. A number of different case was analyzed by varying the reinforcement length and the offset distance between the upper and lower wall. The results indicate that the interaction between the upper and lower walls can be neglected the upper wall is located beyond the distance of the lower wall height. A so found is that for moderate offset distances, the interaction between the two walls generally is limited to the external stability of the wall. Implication of the findings are discussed

  • In order to generate the gray scale image by the binary state imaging devices such as a digital printer, the gray scale image needs to be converted into the binary image by the halftoning techniques. This paper presents a new error diffusion technique to achieve the homogeneous dot distributions on the binary images. In this paper,'the minimum pixel distance'from the current pixel under binarization to the nearest minor pixel is defined first. Also, the gray levels of the input image are converted into a new variable based on the principal distance for the error diffusion. In the proposed method, the difference in the principal distances is utilized for the error propagation, whereas the gray level difference due to the binarization is diffused to the neighboring pixels in the existing error diffusion techniques. The quantization is accomplished by comparing the updated principal distance with the minimum pixel distance. In order to calculate the minimum pixel distance, MPOA(Minor Pixel Offset Array) is employed to reduce the computational loads and memory resources.

  • An experimental study on the convective heat transfer characteristics was performed for a two-dimensional wall attaching offset jet(WAOJ). Thermochromic liquid crystal was used to measure the plate wall temperature. The Nusselt number was measured for Reynolds numbers from 6, 500 to 39, 000, and the offset ratios from 0.5 to 15. The maximum Nusselt number point coincides with the time-averaged reattachment point and Nusselt number decreases monotonically after the jet reattaches on the wall. In the recirculation region Nusselt number minimize near the upstream corner and then increases as X/D decreases to vanishes. This suggests the existence of secondary vortices, causing an additional mixing of the flow in the corner. The correlations between the local Nusselt number and Reynolds number, Re, offset ratio, H/D, and streamwise distance, X/D are presented.

  • The fatalities of pedestrian accounted for about 40.0% of all fatalities in Korea (2005 year). In pedestrian involved accident, the most important data to inspect accident is throw distance of pedestrian. The throw distance of pedestrian can be influenced by many variables, such as vehicular frontal shape, vehicular impact speed, the offset of impact point, the height of pedestrian, and road condition. The trajectory of pedestrian after collision can be influenced by vehicular frontal shape classified into sedan type, box type, SUV type and van type. Many studies have been done about pedestrian accident with passenger car model and bus model for simple factors. But the study of pedestrian accident by van type vehicle was much insufficient, and even that the influence of multiple factors such as the offset of impact point was neglected. In this paper, a series of pedestrian kinetic simulation were conducted to inspect relationship between throw distance and multiple factors with using PC-CRASH s/w, a kinetic analysis program for a traffic accident for van type. By based on the simulation results, multi-variate regression was conducted, and regression equation was presented.

  • PURPOSE. In case of large horizontal discrepancy of alveolar ridge due to severe resorption, cantilevered crown is usually an unavoidable treatment modality. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical criteria for the placement of the aforementioned implant crown. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The mandible model with 2 mm thick cortical bone and cancellous bone was fabricated from CT cross-section image. An external connection type implant was installed and cantilevered crowns with increasing offset of 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 mm were connected. Vertical load and $30^{\circ}$ oblique load of 300 N was applied and stress around bone and implant component was analyzed. A total of 14 cases were modeled and finite element analysis was performed using COSMOS Works (Solid works Inc, USA). RESULTS. As for the location of the vertical load, the maximum stress generated on the lingual side of the implant became larger according to the increase of offset distance. When the oblique load was applied at $30^{\circ}$, the maximum stress was generated on the buccal side and its magnitude gradually decreased as the distance of the offset load increased to 5 mm. After that point, the magnitude of implant component's stress increased gradually. CONCLUSION. The results of this study suggest that for the patient with atrophied alveolar ridge following the loss of molar teeth, von-Mises stress on implant components was the lowest under the $30^{\circ}$ oblique load at the 5 mm offset point. Further studies for the various crown height and numbers of occusal points are needed to generalize the conclusion of present study.

  • This paper introduces non-manifold offsetting operations, which add or remove a uniform thickness from a given non-manifold model. Since these operations can be applied to not only solids but also wireframe or sheet objects, they are potentially useful for pipeline modeling, sheet metal and plastic part modeling, tolerance analysis, clearance checking, constant-radius rounding and filleting of solids, converting of abstracted models to solids, HC too1 path generation and so on. This paper describes mathematical properties and algorithms for non-manifold offsetting. In this algorithm, a sufficient set of tentative faces are generated first by offsetting all or a subset of the vertices, edges and faces of the non-manifold model. And then they are merged into a model using the Boolean operations. Finally topological entities which are within offset distance are removed. The partially modified offsetting algorithms for wireframes or sheets are also discussed in order to provide more practical offset models.

  • In this paper, we present the effect on a novel transmission line filter response by the etch hole position on the suspended ground and the residue on the resonator under ground plane. We defined the etch hole offset as the distance from the sidewall of the suspended ground to the nearest side of the etch holes. We simulated new filter responses to reflect the real value of the changed etch hole offset caused by characteristics of negative photoresist. Return loss is distorted by the residue on the center conductor remained after sacrificial layer removing. By comparison of simulation and measurements, we concluded the residue on the resonator distorted the RF response worse than etch hole offset variation did.

  • Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) observations are powerful tools to monitor surface's displacement very accurately, induced by earthquake, volcano, ground subsidence, glacier movement, etc. Especially, radar interferometry (InSAR) which utilizes phase information related to distance from sensor to target, can generate displacement map in line-of-sight direction with accuracy of a few cm or mm. Due to decorrelation effect, however, degradation of coherence in the InSAR application often prohibit from construction of differential interferogram. Offset tracking method is an alternative approach to make a two-dimensional displacement map using intensity information instead of the phase. However, there is limitation in that the offset tracking requires very intensive computation power and time. In this paper, efficiency of parallel computing has been investigated using high performance computer for estimation of glacier velocity. Two TanDEM-X SAR observations which were acquired on September 15, 2013 and September 26, 2013 over the Narsap Sermia in Southwestern Greenland were collected. Atotal of 56 of 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon processors(28 physical processors with hyperthreading) by operating with linux environment were utilized. The Gamma software was used for application of offset tracking by adjustment of the number of processors for the OpenMP parallel computing. The processing times of the offset tracking at the 256 by 256 pixels of window patch size at single and 56 cores are; 26,344 sec and 2,055 sec, respectively. It is impressive that the processing time could be reduced significantly about thirteen times (12.81) at the 56 cores usage. However, the parallel computing using all the processors prevent other background operations or functions. Except the offset tracking processing, optimum number of processors need to be evaluated for computing efficiency.
