The purpose of this paper is to analyze pricing strategies between conventional offline retailers and Internet retailers and discuss which strategy is more profitable when a bricks-and-mortar firm transforms into a clicks-and-mortar firm.
Purpose: Omni-channel retailing is a new retail phenomenon. Consumers in the omni-channel environment do not rely on one channel but integrate different channels from the same retailers freely during a particular shopping journey. The purpose of this study is to better understand omni-channel shoppers in the fashion retailing context. The present study uses consumer characteristics -- fashion innovativeness, technology innovativeness, and fashion purchase involvement -- as determinants predicting consumers' omni-channel shopping intentions for fashion products. Research design, data, and methodology: Data were collected from 403 U.S. consumers, and the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was performed to test proposed hypotheses. The survey for this research consisted of three parts. The first part measured consumer traits in terms of their innovativeness and purchase involvement. The second part was designed to measure consumers' omni-channel shopping intentions, and the third part gathered consumer demographic information. Results: The findings confirmed that fashion innovativeness, technology innovativeness, and fashion purchase involvement positively affected consumers' omni-channel shopping intentions. Conclusions: Fashion retailers should integrate various customer touchpoints and offer mobile-enabled technologies to boost consumer traffic to both online and offline stores. They also need to create a shopping environment that is optimized for customer engagement in various shopping processes and allow them to explore different shopping channel options for best purchase decisions.
The purpose of the thesis is to find out the correlation between Chinese 'Personal Opinion Expression on Offline' and 'Personal Opinion Expression on Online'(Hypothesis 1) and between 'Save Face' and 'Personal Opinion Expression on Offline', 'Personal Opinion Expression on Online'(Hypothesis 2). It also analyzes and verifies the impact of 'Save Face' among 'Personal Opinion Expression on Offline', and 'Personal Opinion Expression on Online'(Hypothesis 3). The results of this study shows that correlation between 'behavior of opinion expression on Offline' and 'behavior of opinion expression on Online'. Chinese people who express their views in the public, tend to express their opinions on the Online. The thesis also covers that 'Silence' can be caused not only by 'Personal Fear of Isolation', but also by 'Save Face' upon 'The Spiral of Silence a Theory' by Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann, and prove that 'Save Face' relatively affects 'People talk about their observation'. It also confirms that 'Save Face in Open Space', a factor of 'Save Face's, performs a partial channel on 'Personal Opinion Expression on Online' and 'Personal Opinion Expression on Offline'.
The Internet provides a new distribution channel of digital contents for conventional media firms such as newspaper, magazine and encyclopedia publishers and broadcasting companies with very low marginal production and distribution cost. In comparison to traditional offline channel, there have been various revenue models in online content markets such as advertising model, subscription model, affiliation fee model, etc. In the earlier of the Internet era, most of online content firms provided their services free in order to boost offline revenue or they depend on advertising revenue sources in lieu of attaining revenue from their contents. However, as many online content firms are confronted with many difficulties in attaining revenues from online advertising model, they began to charge their contents. This paper shows why they charge their contents and explores entry conditions when conventional firms enter online content markets. And also this paper discusses managerial implications related to pricing strategies in online content markets.

Business is changing to Omni channel services for connecting customer and commerce enterprise anytime and anywhere continuously through the growth of IoT technology. This paper proposes a Mobile Service Architecture, which can provide an Omni channel, for activating O2O(Online to Offline) business to induce customers to visit offline stores through online services. A proposed Mobile Service Architecture proposes a Dynamic Architecture that can provide the specialized service using a Customization service when the service is provided to customers. The proposed Dynamic Mobile Service Architecture consists of a beacon sensor and customization framework. In the case study, the suitability of the Dynamic Mobile Service Architecture was verified by providing a dynamic coupon and advertisement service.
As the online food market is becoming major channel and fragmented, online premium food market is also emerging and growing. The purpose of this study is to clarify the experience factors of consumers in online premium food market and define the differences with offline. It is suggested that the online premium food market should be differentiated in terms of providing contents and services by revealing the differences in experience of cognitive, aesthetic and emotional experience with offline premium food market. In addition, the channel that consumers use in the online premium food market has a combination of online and offline experiences, so it is necessary to provide a consistent experience to the consumers. The consumer experience derived from this study is intended to be used as a basic data for providing content and services from the consumer perspective in the service design of online premium food market.
Since the emergence of Internet service, the revenue from e-commerce has been exponentially growing. Especially, the consumption by men in online retailers is distinctively different from that in traditional bricks-and-mortar retailers. Facing these interesting phenomena, researchers as well as businesses have begun to pay attention to e-commerce and online consumers. However, research on consumer behaviors in the online channel has not made a careful investigation into gender behavioral differences in the online channel. Therefore, we provide a profound understanding of gender differences in online shopping behavior compared to those in offline shopping behaviors. Through our findings from this research, we draw researchers' attention to consumer behavior in the online channel, gender differences in online shopping. Also, we suggest practical implications to online marketers using data collected from one of the major online retailers.
We consider the product differentiation model of online channel competition and examine the strategies of hybrid firms in terms of efficiency. After measuring the social cost of online business strategies, we show that (i) online channel of hybrid firm under blockaded entry may increase the social cost if the firms' delivery cost is sufficiently smaller than the consumer's transportation cost, and (ii) online competition under free entry may increase the social cost if the firms' delivery cost is sufficiently larger than the consumer's transportation cost. Finally, we discuss the strategic incentive of hybrid firms to reduce delivery cost and investigate the effect of the Internet maturity on the social cost.
Exploiting the energy-delay tradeoff for energy saving is critical for developing green wireless communication systems. In this paper, we investigate the delay-constrained energy-efficient packet transmission. We aim to minimize the energy consumption of multiple randomly arrived packets in an additive white Gaussian noise channel subject to individual packet delay constraints, by taking into account the practical on-off circuit power consumption at the transmitter. First, we consider the offline case, by assuming that the full packet arrival information is known a priori at the transmitter, and formulate the energy minimization problem as a non-convex optimization problem. By exploiting the specific problem structure, we propose an efficient scheduling algorithm to obtain the globally optimal solution. It is shown that the optimal solution consists of two types of scheduling intervals, namely "selected-off" and "always-on" intervals, which correspond to bits-per-joule energy efficiency maximization and "lazy scheduling" rate allocation, respectively. Next, we consider the practical online case where only causal packet arrival information is available. Inspired by the optimal offline solution, we propose a new online scheme. It is shown by simulations that the proposed online scheme has a comparable performance with the optimal offline one and outperforms the design without considering on-off circuit power as well as the other heuristically designed online schemes.
The COVID-19 pandemic has not only increased customer preference for contactless methods but also created digital business opportunities in a variety of industries. Particularly in the fashion industry, contactless distribution and contactless shopping have increased significantly. This study identifies the changed consumers' perception of contactless shopping, which has been expanded due to the COVID-19 pandemic and analyzes specific factors that influence shopping switching intention to derive efficient marketing plans for post COVID-19 era. The study targeted Korean male and female consumers. The perceived value, usefulness, and alternative attractiveness of contactless shopping had a significant effect on shopping switching intention, and a moderating effect of offline fashion stores was confirmed. These results indicate that customers' experience in a fashion store influences their next online and offline shoping. This study, therefore, proposed the direction that the fashion industry should advance from a marketing perspective in the post COVID-19 era.
