  • The Friction Stir Welding (FSW) has mainly been used for making butt joints in Al alloys. Development of FSW would expand the number of applications. The FSW is a relatively solid-state joining process. This study possibility of a welding between C1020 and Al6063 by means of FSW has fundamentally clarified. The primary process parameters, such as a rotating speed, rotating direction of tool and off-set of pin periphery from materials interface were optimize, respectively.

  • The effect of stainless steel jagged-pin reinforcement on the pull-off strength of the composite hat-joint was studied by the test. The pins were physically and chemically surface-treated and inserted in the thickness direction over the interface where the skin and stiffener meet. The specimens including the jagged-pins were made by co-curing process. Diameters of the jagged-pins were 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7 mm. The pin areal densities were set to 0.5 and 2.0% based on the interface area where the skin and stiffener meet. The specimens using 0.3 mm diameter normal (un-jagged) pins with 2.0% areal density were additionally fabricated and tested to investigate the pin shape effect on the pull-off strength. The pull-off strengths of specimens reinforced with 0.5% areal density by 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7 mm diameter pins were 45, 19 and 9% higher than those of un-reinforced specimens, respectively. In case with 2.0% pin areal density, the strengths were 127, 45, and 11% higher than those of un-reinforced specimens, respectively. The test results show that the higher pin areal density results in the higher strength when the pin diameter is the same. When the pin areal density is the same, the smaller pin diameter leads to higher strength. When the joints using jagged-pins and normal pins in 2.0% areal density with 0.3 mm diameter, the joints of jagged-pins showed the 64% higher strength. From the results of this study, it was confirmed that jagged-pin reinforcement can be an effective method for improving the pull-off strength of composite hat-joint.

  • Use of the reconstructed fuel assemblies from partially burnt nuclear fuel pins is analyzed. This reutilization option is a potential candidate technique to make better use of the nuclear resources. Standard two step method is used to calculate node i.e. fuel assembly average burnup and then pin by pin ${\eta}$ values are reconstructed to ascertain the residual reactivity in the used fuel pins. Fuel pins with ${\eta}$ > 1:0 are used to reconstruct to-be-reused fuel assemblies. These reconstructed fuel assemblies are burnt during the cycle 3, 4, 5 and 6 of a 1000 MW PWR core by replacing fresh, once burnt and twice burnt fuel assemblies of the reference core configurations. It is concluded that using reconstructed fuel assemblies for the fresh fuel affect dearly on the cycle length (>50 EFPD) when more than 16 fresh fuel assemblies are replaced. However, this loss is less than 20 days if the number of fresh fuel assemblies is less than eight. For the case of replacing twice burned fuel, cycle length could be increased slightly (10 days or so) provided burnt fuel pins from other reactors were also available. Reactor safety parameters, like axial off set (< ${\pm}10%$), Doppler temperature coefficient (<0), moderator temperature coefficient at HFP (<0) are always satisfied. Though, 2D and 3D pin peaking factors are satisfied (<1:55) and (<2:52) respectively, for the cases using eight or less reconstructed fuel assemblies only.

  • As the multimedia technology has become in popular, many software packages that are for using those multimedia contents have also been developed. Directshow is a media framework which makes the development of such multimedia software simple, quick and regular process. In the Directshow, data are processed through the connections between filters. In general, Filtergraph is utilized to be set as 'Intelligent Connection' for filter connection. However, when we use this 'Intelligent Connection' option, they can show non-expected results or fail to connect with filter's pins together. So in this paper, we propose non-necessary filter cut-off method for connecting only just wanted filters. There are two methods such as inner filter cut-off method and outer filter one. The inner filter cut-off method is good at connection's compatibility and able to quickly connect with each other filter. But in the outer filter cut-off method, filter source is not necessary and connection is exactly done with other filter. In the end, we propose Directshow based filter cut-off model which compose of wanted filter connection and minimize error probability, through mixing up the advantages of two filter cut-off methods.
