Measurement and Analysis of Odors Generated in Traditional Markets

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the causes of odors generated in traditional markets and to suggest appropriate application technologies to solve them. Research design, data and methodology: In order to achieve the purpose of this study, complex malodors, TVOC, and hydrogen sulfide were measured three times at each point in Wonju-city, Gangwon-do using direct-reading odor measuring equipment in Joong-ang Traditional Market's Korean beef Alley, Sundae Alley, and Joong-ang Citizens Traditional Market. Therefore, the average value was compared with the emission standard and analyzed. Results: As a result of the study, complex malodors exceeded the emission standards at all points, and hydrogen sulfide exceeded the emission standards at all except for one point. Conclusions: The odor generated in the traditional market has various causes and low concentration, so it is necessary to reduce the odor by using an appropriate technology.

Analysis on an Oxidation-Reduction Reaction of Photocatalytic Plasma Complex Module

  • Purpose: This study is about photocatalytic technology and plasma oxidation-reduction technology. To the main cause of exposure to odor pollution, two deodorization techniques were applied to develop a module with higher removal efficiency and ozone reduction effect. Research design, data and methodology: A composite module was constructed by arranging two types of dry deodorization equipment (catalyst, adsorbent) in one module. This method was designed to increase the responsiveness to the components of complex odors and the environment. standard, unity, two types of oxidizing photo-catalyst technology and plasma dry deodorization device installed in one module to increase the potential by reduction to 76% of ozone, 100%, and 82%. Results: The complex odor disposal efficiency was 92%. Ammonia was processed with 50% hydrogen sulfide and 100% hydrogen sulfide, and ozone was 0.01ppm, achieving a target value of 0.07ppm or less. The combined odor showed a disposal efficiency of 93%, ammonia was 82% and hydrogen sulfide was 100% processed, and ozone achieved a target value of 0.07 ppm or less. Conclusions: Ozone removal efficiency was 76% by increasing Oxidation-Reduction Reaction(ORR). The H2S removal efficiency of the deodorizer was higher than that of the biofilter system currently used in sewage disposal plants.

계사용 온풍기를 이용한 유해가스처리 복합촉매시스템 개발 (Development of composite catalyst for hazardrous gas treatment using the heat of aviary heating equipment)

  • 육류 중에 닭은 가장 저렴한 생산비용으로 단백질을 섭취할 수 있는 장점으로 인하여 많은 양이 사육되며 우리나라 식생활의 육류 소비를 늘리는 중요한 가축이다. 생육조건에 악영향을 미치는 여러 요인 중에 축산업에서 가장 대표적인 것은 악취이다. 악취물질은 축분에서 발생되는 암모니아, 아민류, 황화수소 및 머캡탄을 들 수 있으며 악취는 없으나 악영향을 미치는 물질로는 메탄, 질소산화물 등이 있다. 이러한 악취물질에 의하여 가축은 생육에 저해를 받으며, 심한 경우 폐사까지 이르게 된다. 계사의 경우 겨울철에는 난방을 하고 있는 실정임에도 불구하고 나머지 계절과 같이 환기를 통하여 악취를 제어하고 있다. 겨울철의 경우 대부분의 계사가 등유를 사용하는 온풍기를 이용하여 난방을 하고 있으나 계사내의 유해한 암모니아의 농도가 높아지므로 인하여 환기를 시키고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구과제에서는 기존에 사용되고 있는 온풍기에 복합촉매시스템을 접합하여 계사 및 축사의 암모니아 등의 유해 가스를 제어할 수 있는 시스템에 사용될 촉매를 개발하였으며, Mn과 Pt-Rh을 최적의 조성으로 도출하였다.

  • The odor occurring in the sewage system induces the displeasure, the disgust such as the headache, the vomit, etc. and increases the spiritual stress and disturbs the pleasant life of residents. These odors occur mainly in the area of combined sewage system treatment, being created in the personal sewage treatment plant such as septic tank and are incoming to sewage pipes and emitted to the outside through the manhole and the receiver, etc.; and this causes odors to the people. The Hydrogen Sulfide, the Methyl Mercaptan, the Ammonia, etc. are materials causing the odor, the more serious issue of odor is occurring since the septic tank of degradation process is being applied. The primary cause of odor is the decomposition of human feces in the septic tanks and sewage disposal facilities. The purpose of this study is reduction of hydrogen sulfide using air supplying and SOB(Sulfur-Oxidizing Bacteria). As a result of this study of the air supply system and the SOB media equipment by air supply, in case the air is injected to SOB media compared to the injection of air only, the removal efficiency the hydrogen sulfide was average 3.4 times higher.

천연 조류 제거제를 이용한 정수장 유입 조류 제거 효율 (Effectiveness of elimination inflowing algae in water treatment plant using natural algae remover)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze water treatment characteristics, including the efficiency of removing algae from water purification plants, by installing a demonstration facility for decontamination of algae, including natural algae remover injection equipment, in the water purification plant. Jar-test showed that the optimum injection of natural decontaminant was 20 mg/L. Of the water contaminant treatment efficiency of the intake and water purification plants, Chl-a averaged 74.0% elimination efficiency from $5.0mg/m^3$ to $1.3mg/m^3$ and the maximum treatment efficiency was 91.5% removal efficiency when the inflow concentration of Chl-a was $11.8mg/m^3$. In addition, 51.2% and 47.1% of the taste and odor indicator items, geosmin and 2-MIB, resulted from the overgrowth and decaying of algae, respectively, to identify toxic substances and odor reduction effects. In addition, elimination efficiencies of SS and Turbidity materials were higher than 70.0%. In the injection of natural algae remover, no effects such as sudden changes in water quality due to secondary reactions were found, and appropriate levels were maintained under water treatment conditions.

목초액 처리가 돈분 퇴비화 과정중 악취저감에 미치는 영향 (Reduction of the Odors during Pig Manure Composting Using of Pyroligneous Acid Liquor)

  • 본 연구는 친환경농자재로 선정된 유기성폐자 원인 목초액을 농 축산분야의 적용과 활용성 평가를 위해 돈분퇴비화 과정 중 발생되는 악취에 대한 저감효과를 조사하여 그 이용가치를 검증하고자 실시하였다. 이상의 결과에 대한 요약은 다음과 같다. 암모니아 가스의 분석결과 목초액을 처리한 PA-100과 PA-300 처리구에서 초기 암모니아가스 발생량이 관행구보다 높게 나타났으며, 목초액 처리구에서는 약 18일 이후부터는 측정되지 않았다. 반면, 관행구에서는 보다 오랫동안 나타났으며 약 25일후로 검출되지 않았다. 또한 달관적인 조사를 통하여 PA-100과 PA-300 처리구에서는 발생하는 암모니아가스 냄새의 정도가 현저히 낮았다. 이러한 결과는 목초액내에 함유된 초산성분에 의한 암모니아의 중화반응과 탄화된 목재의 특유의 향으로부터 가려지는 가리움효과(eclipsed effect)에 의한 것으로 해석된다. 휘발성 유기산의 발생량을 GC를 통해 분석한 결과 PA-100 처리구에서 가장 낮은 함량을 보였으며 휘발성 유기산 중에서 acetic acid와 propionic acid 및 butyric acid 등이 가장 많이 발생하였다. 특히, propionic acid와 butyric acid는 PA-100 > PA-300 > 관행구 순으로 퇴비화 과정중 감소효율이 높게 나타났다. 그러나 acetic acid는 관행구보다 다소 높은 경향을 보였는데 이는 목초액의 주성분인의 하나인 초산(acetic acid) 때문인 것으로 판단된다.

돈분퇴비를 여재로 이용한 Biofilter의 암모니아 제거효율 (Performance Analysis for Ammonia Reduction of Biofilter Using Swine Compost as Filter Material)

  • In this paper an optimum design of a lab-scale biofilter for absorbing ammonia has been proposed and analyzed. This biofilter is using pine chaff and wood shaving as filter materials. It is assumed that the biofilter can be used as a storage tank of swine manure slurry or swine stall. To evaluate the biofilter performance, the ammonia, mainly offensive odor ingredient, was measured. Swine compost was mixed with filter materials in ratio of 1:1 on weight base. Each test continued for 20 days. The ammonia emissions were reduced by 97.9% and 98.3% in case of using biofilter filled with pine chaff and compost, and wood shaving and compost, respectively. The system was tested with and without adding compost. It was found that the biofilter with wood shaving and compost has an ammonia removal efficiency of 94.1%, while biofilter with wood shaving only has 85.3%. The biofilter with wood shaving and compost showed 8.8% higher removal efficiency than that of wood shaving only. By mixing the compost, the number of microorganism was found to be about 2.3 times more than that of wood shaving only. Therefore it can be concluded that adding compost has a positive effect on the formation of microorganism.
