  • This paper describes the resource assessment of theoretical potential of ocean energy including tidal current energy, tidal range energy, wave energy and ocean thermal energy in Korea to provide reliable basis for feasible development plan of ocean energy. Because of different characteristics of each ocean energy resources, the resource assessment methods were established considering characteristics of each ocean energy resources. The coastal region of Korea has been divided into 10 regions. The results show that tidal current energy is abundant in Incheon-Gyunggi and Jeollanam-do and tidal range energy is abundant in Incheon-Gyunggi. And wave energy is abundant in Jeollanam-do, Jeju and Gyeongsangbuk-do and there is ocean thermal energy in Gangwon-do and Gyeongsangbuk-do.

  • Recently, deep ocean water (DOW), which is plentiful in the East sea, has been recognized a global resources for 21st century. To develop DOW resource of 300m deep at Gosung sea, the pipeline of about 4 km long is essentially required to establish land based model complex of DOWA techno-park at coastal zone. This study aims to establish design procedure of DOW supplying and utilizing systems, and to complete basic design of every major facilities. To design, various numerical analysis and engineering consideration have been studied by cooperative works for practical use.

  • The west and south coastal regions of Korea are known to be of strong tidal current speed. With the increasing demand for renewable energies, the resource assessment has been a crucial issue which should be conducted before any detail planning and development of the potential sites for tidal current farm. Although there are several results of resource assessment of tidal current energy in Korea, the resource assessment method is not officially announced. This undefined methodology makes the results unreliable and useless. Recently new renewable energy potential definition has been announced by KIER (Korea Institute of Energy Research). This categorizes energy potential as four steps; theoretical, geographical, technical and market potentials. This paper describes the resource assessment of tidal current power in Korea based on API (Averaged Power Intercepted). The results show that the Incheon-Gyeonggi and Jeollanam-do are very promising areas for tidal current power in Korea.

  • Recently, deep ocean water (DOW), which is plentiful in the East sea, has been recognized a global resources for 21st century. To clarify the characteristics of DOW of the East Sea, the quality of DOW has been investigated and analyzed for 5 years in situ and laboratory in the viewpoints of stability of low-temperature, mineral balance, rich nutrition and cleanness. And it characteristics were compared with foreign DOW used for commercial applications. This study do finally suggest the various utilization methods of DOW based on each characteristics and suitable examples for fisheries and industrial purpose.

  • A resource management system of for the paper-bag product company was made. The objective of the system is computering the hand writing management process to improve the performance of working process of the small company. For this, some programming and design strategies were made such as the simplification, ease to use, similarity with old system and object oriented concept. It is expected to reduce burdens and errors of hand writing and improve the efficiencies of small company.

  • Just like terrestrial cellular networks, underwater cellular communication networks, which can manage the overall network resource by adaptively allocating backhaul resource for each base station according to its ingress traffic, are necessary. In this paper, a new resource allocation protocol is proposed for the underwater cellular communication network, allocating backhaul resource of a base station proportional to its ingress traffic to the base station. This protocol is classified into two types dependent upon allocation period: the resource allocation protocol with adaptive period and that with fixed period. In order to determine a proper resource allocation protocol, the performance of the two protocols, in terms of reception rate, message overhead, and latency is compared and investigated via simulation. As a result, the resource protocol with adaptive period outperforms that with fixed period; the resource allocation protocol with fixed period results in a maximum of $10^2$ order longer queueing delay as well as $10^2$ order greater message overhead than that with adaptive period.

  • The study examined overuse of the fishery resource. Influence of fishing activity was estimated by application of Schaefer model's. Fishing efforts that produced the maximum sustainable yield were determined in the model, allowing the effect of overfishing to be assessed. In the model, a wide variety of fish species as well as crustaceans and shellfish were susceptible to overfishing, while mollusks were not. Overfishing by modern techniques exacted a greater toll than more traditional methods. The results of the modeling study suggest that the 'Buy bag' input-control system of fisheries resource management warrants consideration, as does modernization, expansion and strengthening of self-control management of the fishery resource. Finally, more effective efforts in dissemination of policy information and education concerning the fishery resource are needed.

  • The growing need for energy (oil and gas) has led to offshore resource development. As a reflection of this trend, there have been many advances in the technologies used for the subsea production systems that make offshore resource development possible. As the technologies for subsea production systems continue to grow, a subsea X-mas tree, the core equipment in a subsea production system, is required to have more functions than before. Generally, these complex functions lead to a change in its configuration. Therefore, this paper investigates a change in a subsea X-mas tree system to enhance system understanding, and conducts a leakage path analysis of a subsea X-mas tree system. Utilizing the recent configuration of the subsea X-mas tree, an identification of the leakage path and a quantitative risk analysis for the leakage using an FTA (fault tree analysis) are conducted.
