  • This paper reports the Survey results from a field monitoring study of office occupancy densities. The field measurement of a office in Yongin was carried out from 19 September to 30 September 2011. The survey has an aim to reveal the building energy consumption relationship between occupancy densities of a realistic office and the previous studies. The results showed that hourly occupied density of the previous studies is more higher than a field survey. we investigated the effects of difference occupancy densities on annual heating and cooling energy consumption using EnergyPlus. Heating and cooling consumption was raised because of the increased occupancy density. therefore, accurately measure the occupnacy schedule is important in order to reduce excessive building energy consumption, and is an significant element to be considered in the energy simulation.

  • The occupancy based O/D is essential for measuring efficiency of various transportation policies like HOV/HOT lane, ramp metering, and public parking station. There has been many studies on occupancy survey methodology and O/D estimation using TCS (Toll Collection System) data separately. The occupancy O/D estimation methodology using TCS data has not been attempted thus far. An overall process from data collection stage to the occupancy O/D estimation stage has been suggested. Field survey was performed at the northbound Seoul toll station of Gyeongbu Expressway by each 2 hours of AM peak, PM non-peak, PM peak, midnight periods on a day. The process of matching the TCS data and field survey data classified by tollbooth ID, car type/mode, and arrival time was also performed. One typical output of the results showed that the ratio of single occupancy vehicles bounding for Seoul during the AM peak amounted to 60%. With the key output of this study and the specific O/D estimation methodology suggested, the whole centroid-to-centroid occupancy O/D of the country could be available, and then various applications in which the occupancy information is required could be possible.

  • The goal of this study is to understand better the relationship between hospital bed occupancy rate and cost rigidity as a proxy for the degree of hospital bed congestion, as well as the relationship between the risk of changes in hospital bed occupancy rate and congestion cost, targeting public hospitals. As public hospitals for analysis, we selected hospital projects from the Public Enterprises Survey Reports published by the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Finance, and obtained unbalanced panel data consisting of 1,505 hospitals and 15 years, totaling 12,595 hospitals and years. The analysis revealed that the risk of changes in the bed occupancy rate increases the degree of cost rigidity and leads to a decrease in the variable cost ratio; furthermore, an increase in the bed occupancy rate decreases the degree of cost rigidity and leads to an increase in the variable cost ratio. These findings suggest that although public hospitals are taking managerial actions to avoid congestion costs, congestion costs resulting from higher bed occupancy rates have not been eliminated. The regression analysis results show that even if congestion costs arise as the occupancy rate increases, they are covered by the increase in revenue associated with the increase in the occupancy rate.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the major factors of indoor environment that affect the satisfaction of the occupancy in multi-family residential buildings. The results of this study can contribute to improving the comfort of the residents effectively as they are applied preferentially at the design and construction stages. The indoor environment factors investigated for the analysis included thermal, light, air and the acoustic environment. The individual factors were derived from the 'indoor environment' assessment indices of the green building certificate systems of various countries. Based on these, a questionnaire was prepared to conduct the Post Occupancy Evaluation. The survey results were statistically analyzed.

  • Since the government-owned land is the national property, the country is responsible for the management. Although one can see the recent activities of government to efficiently manage and maintain the government-owned land, its characteristics are not well reflected on the current managing methods. Obviously, efficient and prefer methods for the field survey is necessary for efficient management. In this study, the current management methods focused on the site srvey are analyzed and problems are deduced. Basically the current methods depending on the graphic information and cadastral survey results are compared with real illegal occupancy case. The investigation clearly shows the necessity of the cadastral survey and proved the current method is not sufficient to detect illegal occupancy on government-owned land. It is expected that this study contributes on establishing an efficient management methods for the government-owned land.

  • The purposes of this study are to propose evacuation recommendations through evacuation model considering occupancy load model in child care center with disabilities. To achieve these purposes, the survey on the occupancy load and egress model and evacuation experiments have carried out, and evacuation occupancy load model for child care center with disabilities are suggested. The results of this study are as follows : (1) The evacuation plan for children with disabilities are necessary special considerations according the type and levels of disability, and various egress means and method for children in child care center with disabilities conditions. (2) The evacuation occupancy loads are different with non-impaired children and evacuation occupancy loads and evacuation corridors width are necessary considering impaired children's evacuation behaviors. (3) The temporal evacuation area(refuge area) is essential for children with disability who are impossible vertical evacuation such as impaired children using wheelchair and cerebral palsy.

  • Recently, mobile phone data was applied in travel demand modeling as a new source of dynamic population movement. This study is also aimed to estimate "occupancy population" during a given period of time within a given spatial region using mobile phone data. An occupancy population was defined as the number of people residing or moving within a given time and space. In case of Seoul Metropolitan area, we divided the area into a number of administrative districts as zones for analysis and estimated the occupancy population of each zone by mobile phone data collected by SK telecom Co., a wireless telecommunication provider in Korea. For the expansion of mobile phone data, a new concept of "communication probability" was introduced and applied in the estimation of occupancy population of each zone by the hour. We compared the estimated number with the daytime population and the daytime population index referred by the Statistics Korea. The results showed that a positive correlation existed between the estimated number and the statistical number by nationwide survey. It was concluded that mobile phone data could be more cost-effective sources than a conventional survey method to estimate the pattern of population movement by the hour or by the day.

  • We investigated the distribution of three anuran species, Three-striped pond frogs (Rana nigromaculata), Bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana), and Narrow-mouthed toads (Kaloula borealis), in an administrative district, Haenam Gun, Junnam Province, Korea using volunteer call surveys. Twenty-eight volunteer call surveyors were assigned to each $2{\times}2km^2$ survey plot. Call surveys on whether the species are present or not were conducted for 5 minutes between 30 minutes after sunset and the midnight on rice fields and ponds from 10 April to 28 August in 2005. Depending on species, call surveys were carried out at seven to 28 plots with average 8.4 to 10.7 visits per the plot. We calculated the detection probabilities and occupancy rates of the three species using four models with three covariates: temperature, humidity, and the amount of water at the habitat. The model average detection probabilities of three anuran species of R. nigromaculata, R. catesbeiana, and K. borealis were 0.53, 0.74, and 0.41 respectively, and the site occupancy rates of them were 0.93, 0.94, and 0.86 respectively. Our results indicate that R. nigromaculata, R. catesbeiana, and K. borealis are common in Haenam Gun.

  • The purpose of the study was to perform the post-occupancy evaluation of housing environments of Jangyou New Town in Gimhae. The data for the analysis was collected through questionnaire survey method from August 10 to 27, 2010, and the sample consisted of 524 respondents living in apartment complexes in Jangyou. The features of housing environment were categorized into unit housing, apartment complex, and neighborhood and total 28 specific items were included in the evaluation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analysis of variance with Duncan's multiple range tests. The results were as follows: 1) Overall evaluation of housing environment of the residents in Jangyou were relatively high, expecially in floor plan layout of unit housing, self-expression through apartment complex, and natural environment of neighborhood. 2) The demographic and housing variables that had significant influences on the post-occupancy evaluation were age of the respondent, monthly income, apartment size and tenure type of apartment. Respondents who were over sixty years old, with monthly income of less than 2,000,000 won, or living in public rental apartments were more likely to evaluate overall housing environment positively than rest of the respondents.
