  • In this study an experimental investigation was conducted to find the grinding characteristics of ceramics, as compared to STDll and SUS304 materials. The grinding force and the microscopic observation of the workpieces were obtained in surface grinding. It has been found that the grinding force of ceramics is relatively low as compared to that of steels and that CBN wheel has an excellent performance.

It is basin area 9,440ha, length 14.4km and slope 0.67%. Hydrological observation network is constructed of rainfall meter 4points, reservoir storage level 3points and river water level 2points.

  • 전자광학추적장치의 공력특성연구를 위한 풍동시험을 수행하였다. 특히 실제 EOTS 작동중 관측부의 회전을 위한 작동기의 충분한 파워 측정을 위한 공력토크 특성을 조사하였다. EOTS의 관측창의 영향을 조사하기 위해 반구와 실린더로 이루어진 단순 모형 실험결과와의 비교를 수행하였다. 단순모형과 EOTS모형의 표면 압력을 비교한 결과를 통해 관측창의 위치에 따라 급격한 압력계수의 변화와 회전 관측부의 토크 특성에 많은 영향을 미치는 것을 발견하였다.

공간의 시각적 이해과정에 나타난 주시유형에 관한 연구 - 공공공간의 로비를 중심으로 - (A Study on Observation Type at the Process of Visual Understanding - Focused on the Lobby in the Public Space -)

  • This study was to examine the pattern of visual interpretation in the process of eye-tracking. I categorized the subjects' observation inclination for analysis so that I could find out which element the user observing the space concentrated and explored. First, for 2 minutes of observation, there occurred 171 times of eye-fixations and 9.8 times of observation frequency on average, which showed that the subject, through this observing fixation, spent 44.5% of the entire time performing the visual activity in order to acquire the "visual understanding" of the lobby-space. Second, I found out that there was a consistent observation type as the time passed. I could categorize the subjects observing the space into 6 concentrating types and 3 discontinuing ones of observation types, which category can be utilized as data for analyzing the subjects' characteristics at space-observation. Third, the type, which was so intensive as to get the visual understanding on the space, was mostly of the case that (1) the subject had a kind of high degree of observation type, exploring the space, again having high degree of the observation type [Type A], (2) the subject repeated the concentration from the early part to the latter [Type C], which can be considered to be the observation type generally shared. Fourth, in the case of observing the space, 45.8% of the subjects showed a high rate of concentration at the time of starting the observation and in less than two minutes. The subjects of type A can be considered to understand the space visually by distinctively repeating the concentration and exploration.

남한에서의 안개 사례별 목측과 시정계 계측의 시정 특성 비교 (A Comparative Study on the Visibility Characteristics of Naked-Eye Observation and Visibility Meters of Fog over South Korea)

  • Most of the researches on fog in South Korea have been done based on the naked-eye observation but the number of observation sites is just 22. Considering the localities of fog and various durations, it is essential to utilize more than 250 visibility meters that measure visibility every minute. In this study, the visibility characteristics of visibility meters were compared with that of the naked-eye observation using one year data, 2016, and radiation fog and advection fog cases were analyzed in detail. The concordance rate of the two data set was 0.96~0.97, but discordance rate was 0.19~0.47. In general, visibility meters observed fog more frequently than naked-eye. The correlation between two data sets is clearly dependent on the visibility and geographic locations (fog/thick fog (< 100 m) of inland: 0.86/0.61; fog/thick fog: 0.65/0.73 of island/coastal site). In both fog cases, the fog events observed by naked-eye were consistently detected by visibility meters, and visibility meters clearly well detected very short fog/thick fogs. Formation and dissipation time of fog for the fog cases were similar but fog duration by visibility meters was shorter because of exclusion of temporary dissipated time. In addition, the visibility meters showed a detailed distribution of fog events that occurred simultaneously over South Korea. It would be useful to analyze the spatial and temporal characteristics of, in particular, thick fog using visibility meters. However, more works are needed for the filtering criteria for analyzing fog using visibility meters alone.

그림자 영향을 고려한 PV 시스템의 VPO MPPT 제어 (Development of VPO MPPT of PV System Considering Shadow Influence)

  • 본 논문은 그림자 영향을 고려한 PV(Photovoltaic) 시스템의 VPO(Variable Perturbation & Observation)MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) 제어를 제시한다. 태양전지의 출력 특성은 비선형이고 온도, 일사량 및 그림자의 영향을 많이 받는다. MPPT 제어는 태양광발전 시스템의 출력 및 효율을 증가시키기 위한 매우 중요한 기술이다. 종래의 PO(Perturbation & Observation)와 IC(Incremental conductance) 등은 지속적인 자려진동에 의해 MPP(Maximum Power Point)를 찾는 방법으로 그림자 영향에 의해 출력이 급격하게 변할 경우 MPPT 제어를 수행하지 못한다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 출력 변동에 따라 스텝 값이 변하는 새로운 제어 알고리즘을 제시한다. 제시한 알고리즘은 일사량, 온도 및 그림자 영향에 대해 종래의 제어 알고리즘과 응답특성을 비교하고 이를 통해 제시한 알고리즘의 타당성을 입증한다.

Modified GMM Training for Inexact Observation and Its Application to Speaker Identification

  • All observation has uncertainty due to noise or channel characteristics. This uncertainty should be counted in the modeling of observation. In this paper we propose a modified optimization object function of a GMM training considering inexact observation. The object function is modified by introducing the concept of observation confidence as a weighting factor of probabilities. The optimization of the proposed criterion is solved using a common EM algorithm. To verify the proposed method we apply it to the speaker recognition domain. The experimental results of text-independent speaker identification with VidTimit DB show that the error rate is reduced from 14.8% to 11.7% by the modified GMM training.

Study on Solar Constraint in the Operation of COMS Meteorological Imager

  • Communication Ocean Meteorological Satellite (COMS) for the hybrid mission of meteorological observation, ocean monitoring, and telecommunication service is planned to be launched onto Geostationary Earth Orbit in 2008 according to the Korea national space program. A feasibility study on the solar constraint in the operation of the COMS meteorological imager (MI) is performed using the GOES imager hardware operation characteristics. The Earth observation areas of the MI are introduced and the observation time of the MI observation area is calculated. The sun light can enter into the MI optical system around the local midnight and impinge on the performance of the MI. The solar eclipse viewed from the satellite occurs near local midnight around the equinox. This study discusses the restriction of imaging operation time that should be considered in order to avoid the solar intrusion about local midnight and to keep acceptable image quality for the MI observation areas. This study could be useful to build the operation concept of the MI during the development of the MI.

  • For the observation of treeing, a visual measurement with an optical microscope has been used to explain breakdown mechanism in high-voltage systems. The conventional directed visual method of tree aging observation is difficult to measure in short time processing, and it is impossible to analyze on tree degradation area, progressed direction, tree pattern, etc. By using an image processing technique, the tree features which appear immediately after the tree initiation as well as changes in the configuration of the tree can be easily measured and observed than using the conventional visual methods. In this paper, we have developed a tree observating system by using image processing for tree growth, degradation area and other treeing progress. As an experimental result, it can be concluded that the image processing method is a more effective alternative than directed visual observation method. As a matter of fact, it is possible to record the image of tree propagation immediately after its first appearance and explain the characteristics of tree growth froth the computer processing image.
