  • As XML has become an emerging standard for information exchange on the World Wide Web it has gained attention in database communities to extract information from XML seen as a database model. Recently, many researchers have addressed the problem of storing XML data and processing XML queries using traditional database engines. Here, most of them have used relational database systems. In this paper, we show that OODBSs can be another solution. Our technique generates an OODB schema from DTDs and processes XML queries, Especially, we show that the semi-structural part of XML data can be represented by the 'inheritance' and that this can be used to improve query processing.

  • XML is a standard markup language for exchange and storage of formed or well-formed information in World Wide Web, Because the source data of XML message for exchange of information in World Woo Web Is stored in legacy database systems. it is necessary the easier connection between XML application and database systems, In Oracle8i. 9i. informix and SQL2000. DBMS vendors extend their DBMSs for XML. This approach for the connection between XML application and database system is Platform-dependent and DBMS-dependent. Therefore it is necessary the platform- and DBMS-independent approach for the connection between XML application and database system, In this paper. we modeled a set of middleware components for relational database design based on XML DTD is modeled, Those components are modeled on object-based algorithm for connection between XML application and database system.

  • XML will be used in lots of areas in the Web environment as a method of information exchange, We have to use dat'abases to manipulate lots of XML documents efficiently, When we use database to manipulate XML, not only type of database but also its interface is important We develop a system using relational database, object-oriented database and wrapper to store XML data, of which interfaces are XML-View, ODMG C++ binding, OQL and DOM, We discuss pros and cons of each method by the implementation of the system, and propose an efficient manipulation method of XNIL documents.

  • This paper proposes the way to analyse XML docuements according to the element information. XML documents, which are becoming new standard for expressing and exchanging data in the Internet, don't have defined schema. It is not adequate to directly apply XML documents to the existing relational database or object-oriented database query language. Research on how to extract schema for XML documents and query language is going on actively For users' query, the results could be too many or too less. It is important to give the users adequate results. Our proposed analysis method can be reduced or extended to correspond to the users' query more flexibly.

  • As a fundamental knowledge source in a global learning environment, it is feasible to apply the relational database management systems (RDBMS), object-oriented database management systems (OODBMS), and other traditional DBMS. However, the traditional DBMSs are not feasible in semantic knowledge/ontology representation and inference. One of the reasonable ways to overcome the limitations is the semantic web-based business support framework. Especially, in this study, we focused on the development of semantic web ontology and natural language (NL)-based inference framework. To validate the efficiency of the proposed framework, we considered a reasonable scenario for course recommendation in a university.

  • There have been lots of research on temporal data management for the past two decades. Most of them are based on some logical data model, especially on the relational data model, although there are some conceptual data models which are independent of logical data models. Also, many properties or issues regarding temporal data models and temporal query languages have been studied. But some of them were shown to be incompatible, which means there could not be a complete temporal data model, satisfying all the desired properties at the same time. Many modeling issues discussed in the papers, do not have to be done so, if they take object-oriented data model as a base model. Therefore, this paper proposes a temporal data model, which is based on the object-oriented data model, mainly discussing the most essential issues that are common to many temporal data models. Our new temporal data model and query language will be illustrated with a small database, created by a set of sample transaction.

  • In the recent competitive market situation, the product development lead-time plays a significant role for the success of a manufacting company. One of the most important efforts required is reducing the design lead-time by managing all the necessary technical information related to the design process. In this paper, the data model for an engineering data management system for machine tools is described by applying object-oriented modeling technique. The design objects and their structure are defined regarding the functions such as version control, configuration management, and technical document management, and are implemented using an object-relational database management system. The suggested model takes into special account the characteristics of machining centers.

  • Recently, owing to the rapid progress of Telecommunication technology, the increase of wireless internet’s subscriber and diffusion of wireless device, LBS (Location Based Services) which take advantage of user's location information and receive information in concerning with user’s location to be essential services. Location Based Services are related the moving objects which change their locations through time. Therefore, to provide location-based services efficiently, it is required that an efficient system which could acquire, store, and query the large number of locations. In this paper, we design management system to insert and search a huge number of Moving Object based on Legacy Relational Database.

  • Previous research on data extraction and integration for data warehousing has concentrated mainly on the relational DBMS or partly on the object-oriented DBMS. Mostly, it describes issues related with the change data (deltas) capture and the incremental update by using the triggering technique of active database systems. But, little attention has been paid to data extraction approaches from other types of source systems like hierarchical DBMS, etc. and from source systems without triggering capability. This paper argues, from the practical point of view, that we need to consider not only the types of information sources and capabilities of ETT tools but also other factors of source systems such as operational characteristics (i.e., whether they support DBMS log, user log or no log, timestamp), and DBMS characteristics (i.e., whether they have the triggering capability or not, etc), in order to find out appropriate data extraction techniques that could be applied to different source systems. Having applied several different data extraction techniques (e.g., DBMS log, user log, triggering, timestamp-based extraction, file comparison) to S bank's source systems (e.g., IMS, DB2, ORACLE, and SAM file), we discovered that data extraction techniques available in a commercial ETT tool do not completely support data extraction from the DBMS log of IMS system. For such IMS systems, a new date extraction technique is proposed which first creates Index database and then updates the data warehouse using the Index database. We illustrates this technique using an example application.
