Views are essential in providing logical data independence for database systems. Object views in object-oriented/object-relational databases have requirements quite different from those of relational databases due to support for object-oriented concepts. Although many commercial object-oriented/object-relational database systems support object views, implementation techniques have not been discussed sufficiently in the literature. In this paper, we devise a technique for implementing views in object-oriented/object-relational databases and apply it to the ODYSSEUS object-relational database system. We first analyze the requirements of object views. Next, to implement object views, we extend the existing query modification algorithm that has been proposed for implementing views in relational databases. Next, we compare the features of the proposed object view with those of object views in commercial object-relational database systems. It is shown that the proposed object view supports all object-oriented concepts such as object identifiers, inheritance, methods, and composite objects, while existing object views support part of them. Last, we propose detailed techniques for implementing the extended query modification algorithm in the ODYSSEUS object-relational database system.

Mapping of EXPRESS, which is object-favored language to represent IFC model, to Relational Database is not straightforward. Model size can be much bigger and data can be missed through process. However mapping to the object concept added database, such as Object Oriented Database or Object Relational Database, may be simpler and have lots of advantages. This study investigates previous IFC mapping studies, concept of Relational Database and Object Oriented Database, and mapping methodology to Object Relational Database using object.
The current applications can be characterized as consisting of complex objects related by complex relationship. Therefore the relational database has been extended to object-relational database because of the complex objects. Accordingly, we need database design methodology for object-relational database. In this pager, we develop an integrated design methodology based on a extended UML class diagram for object-relational database. We make the extend UML class diagram by adding new stereotypes for object-relational database. Also we propose a guideline for transforming the extended UML class diagram to object-relational database schema. We use SQL:1999 as a object-relational data model and Oracle11g as a target object-relational database. We can build more easily and efficiently object-relational database for Oracle11g by using our methodology. Finally we applied our methodology on a computer classroom reservation system for evaluation the methodology.

The objective of this paper is to give a brief review of relational design methodology, and show how a relational schema can be converted into an object-relational schema. We first introduce relational terminology and describe the relational design process along with its limitations. Next we show how the relational model can be extended to overcome these limitations : these extensions form the core of an object-relational data model ; we use the UniSQL/X data model as an example. We illustrate the process or converting a relational schema into an object-relational schema, and show the benefits of this conversion with respect to queries. The conversion process is then summarized as a set of guidelines. Finally, we make our conclusions.

We propose an XML document storage system, called XDMS (XML Document Management System), by using an object-relational DBMS. XDMS generates object database schema from XML Schema and stores the XML documents in an object-relational database. SAX parser is used for understanding the structure of the XML documents, and XDMS transforms the documents into objects in the database. Experiment shows that object-relational databases provide more efficient storage and query model compared with relational databases.

This paper presents a new benchmark for object-relational database systems, which are regarded as the next-generation database system. This benchmark has been developed to evaluate system performance peculiar to object-relational database systems. The design philosophy, test databases, an test queries of the benchmark are presented. This benchmark features scaleability, use of a synthesized database only, and a query-oriented evaluation. We have implemented his benchmark with two commerical object-relational database systems and the experimental results are also reported.
As XML documents become popular in the World Wide Web, a lot of research is being done on XML storage systems that store and manage XML documents using existing DBMSS. However, most of them have been done in the context of relational DBMSS rather than object-relational DBMSS, which have more powerful modeling capability than relational ones. In this paper, we design and implement an XML storage system, ODYSSEUS/XMLStore, for the ODYSSEUS object-relational DBMS that has been under development at KAIST. First, we analyze the mapping from the structure of XML documents to the relational or object-relational database schema. Second, we propose a method for describing the mapping analyzed using a standard language, XML Schema. Third, we propose a storage structure for storing the mapping information specified by the users in the database. Fourth, we propose detailed algorithms for storing XML documents in the relational or object-relational database based on the mapping information provided by the users.
Nowadays an information exchange on Bn such as B2B electronic commerce is spreading. Therefore the systematic and stable management mechanism for storing the exchanged information is needed. For this goal there are many research activities for connection between XML application and relational database. But because XML data have hierarchical structures and relational database can store only flat-structured data, we need to store XML data in object-relational database that support hierarchical structure. Accordingly the modeling methodology for storing XML data in object-relational database is needed. In order to build good quality application systems, modeling is an important first step. In 1997, the OMG adopted the UML as its standard modeling language. Since industry has warmly embraced UML its popularity should become more important in the future. So a design methodology based on UML is need to develop efficiently XML applications. In this paper, we propose a unified design methodology for In applications based on object-relational database using In. To this goal, first we introduce a XML modeling methodology to design W3C XML schema using UML and second we propose data modeling methodology for object-relational database schema to store efficiently XML data in object-relational databases.

The Relational ranking method applies authority-based ranking in relational dataset that can be modeled as graphs considering also their tuples' values. Authority directions from tuples that contain the given keywords and transfer to their corresponding neighboring nodes in accordance with their values and semantic connections. From our previous work, ObjectRank extends to ValueRank that also takes into account the value of tuples in authority transfer flows. In a maked difference from ObjectRank, which only considers authority flows through relationships, it is only valid in the bibliographic databases e.g. DBLP dataset, ValueRank facilitates the estimation of importance for any databases, e.g. trading databases, etc. A relational keyword search paradigm Object Summary (denote as OS) is proposed recently, given a set of keywords, a group of Object Summaries as its query result. An OS is a multilevel-tree data structure, in which node (namely the tuple with keywords) is OS's root node, and the surrounding nodes are the summary of all data on the graph. But, some of these trees have a very large in total number of tuples, size-l OSs are the OS snippets, have also been investigated using ValueRank. We evaluated the real bibliographical dataset and Microsoft business databases to verify of our proposed approach.

In the development process of application systems, the most important works are analysis and design. Most of the application systems are implemented on database system. So, database design is important. Also, IT System are confronted with more and more attacks by an increase interconnections between IT systems. Therefore security-related processes belong to a very important process. Security is a complex non-functional requirement that can interaction of many parts in the system. But Security is considered in the final stages of development. Therefore, Their increases the potential for the final product to contain vulnerabilities. Accordingly, Early in development related to security analysis and design process is very important. J2EE gives a solution based on RBAC((Role Based Access Control) for security and object-relational database also has RBAC for security. But there is not a object-oriented analysis and design methodology using RBAC of J2EE and object-relational database for security. In this paper, the unified object-oriented analysis and design methodology is developed for security-critical web application systems based on J2EE and object-relational database. We used UMLsec and RBAC of object-relational database and J2EE for this methodology.
